Our infant son attends this daycare, and it’s excellent. The staff is kind, engaged, and really focus on each child as an individual.
Unfortunately, we just learned this morning that they will be CLOSING 06÷30÷13. :(

Stay away from this childcare! It’s true that last november a new Director came in and turned things around, but in August 2011, the new Director left along with several other staff. Every morning when we drop off our daughter, there are too many children in the classroom with just one teacher. They are continously exceeding the 1:7 ratio that Licensing requires. When parents tried to address issues with the administrative staff, nothing was ever resolved. We didn’t even get clear answers as to why all of the sudden, the director, program manager, and several teachers left with very short notice.
We ended up pulling our daughter out of this school.

I have two children at MLK and we are happy here. I would agree with other feedback that over the last couple of years there has been some transition with Directors and the Preschool classes were of concern.
I now have one child in Preschool-​1 and one in the infant room and we are very happy, more importantly, our kids are happy! There is a new Director as of about November and I think some things, specifically, parent communication, structure in the classrooms and general flow and vibe of the center, are really improving. My child in Pre-​1 is thriving, learning numbers, letters, songs and lots of creative play.
The teachers love the kids and we feel confident that our kids are in a safe, loving environment in which they can flourish.

Until your kid goes to the pre-​k class, you will probably be ok. The teachers are loving, though most do not speak English fluently (which may be a good thing). For infants, waddlers, and toddlers, I’d give this 4 starts.
The pre-​k class though is a concern (at least back during fall 2009), which is why we moved our child to another in the area. We’re not overbearing parents looking for superb care, we just want teachers who can control their class, instill some good manners, and pay a little personal attention when necessary. A little homework every now and then would be nice. Unfortunately, it felt more like the teachers were just trying to survive the day.
The director position has been in flux over the past couple years which is definitely contributing to it. We’ve learned leadership is important, no matter what the setting. We’ve been in 2 other daycares since and see a huge difference in culture and attitude. It’s not just that kids will be kids, I think the teachers and leadership obviously make a big difference.
