Ended up in Queen Anne on a Saturday night and was in the mood for diner food! Reviews are pretty on point for the Mecca Café. I loved the bizarre décor and the server was really friendly. It took a bit for us to get noticed but I wasn’t starving or anything so I didn’t mind.
The screwdriver my fiancé ordered was friggin delicious but the gin and tonic I had was… Disappointing. I’m not knocking points off for a less than stellar cocktail at a diner though, that’s not why we came.
I ordered the hashbrowns, eggs over easy and some of the greatest sourdough toast I’ve ever had (and I’m a FAN of sourdough). All I ask is that the hashbrowns be crispy on the outside and warm and delicious on the inside and the egg whites aren’t runny. Mecca café perfected this. The fella ordered the corned beef hash and he is particular about this dish. He loved it though and managed to save some leftovers (huge HUGE portions of this corned beef hash I tell you) which he enjoyed even more the next day.
Next time I’ll try the waffles or pancakes (waffle iron is turned off at 6 I think the menu said and we arrived around 7pm, bummer!). I’ll be back Mecca, and I wish I drank coffee because it smelled amazing!

The Mecca café is a nice little spot for breakfast if you are in the Queen Anne area. The place itself is a bit 60s retro diner with stools, counter and booths.
We ordered some scrambled eggs and toast and the eggs benedict with hashbowns. It’s hard to screw up some eggs scrambled and toast! The food was good and your typical diner type breakfast.
The coffee they serve is exceptionally good and they offer free refills. The small OJ is rather small, so for an extra 50 cents go for the large size.
The service was polite and efficient.

Really good greasy diner food. Had some scrambled eggs and toast, hash browns, and a blueberry pancake. I’d skip on the hash browns next time, but everything else was great. The atmosphere is really cool too — true diner feel.

Not even joking, I have never been treated this poorly as a person in my life.
There is a good chance that the other staff AND the food here is great. I saw neither. Here is the story.
Friend is waiting for me. I show up, he has a drink already. I look at the menu and quickly scan to see if there is anything vegan on it. I didn’t expect there to be. I’ve seen the menu before, but I am a sucker for fries, so I will probably just get those.
I make it about a quarter of the way through the menu when our server showed up. He asked if my friend would like another drink and if I would like anything besides water. I said, «No, just water».
I then asked if there was anything vegan on the menu. Hoooooo boy. That’s all it took.
He rolled his eyes, like hardcore «I want you to see how much I hate you right now» rolled his eyes.
He told me to read the menu. He then explained that the menu listed all of their food items and that it could be read left to right.
Oh man, shots fired.
I explained that I knew how a menu worked. He then told me to read it. I explained that I had just arrived and haven’t even looked at the whole thing.
He replied by saying that they have plenty of vegan options and I just need to read the menu to find them. I asked him what they were. He said, «Salad, fries…»
That’s all he said.
I asked if he knew what dressings he had that didn’t have dairy or egg in them. He told me olive oil and vinegar, and Italian.
He then asked what I was expecting? I said, «Well, for instance, you might have a black bean burger that vegans ask for.» He told me that they did in fact have a black bean burger. I asked where. He took the menu from my hands and flipped to the back and pointed at the burgers. I read them. There was no black bean burger. There was just a Gardenburger.
I told him that this isn’t a black bean burger. His response was, «I believe it’s made with beans.» He then continued to berate me for not reading the menu and asked why I was asking him. For serious, he said that.
I explained that asking him is a good way to know if there are vegan safe things on the menu without me having to ask about every little detail. For instance, if I said I was vegan, you may not mention the Gardenburger because, as Gardenburgers go, they have dairy in them. Thus, by asking you, I could have avoided that. He could be a beacon of knowledge about what to offer because other vegans have been in there before me.
He then mentioned that there was no way he could know if anything came into contact with meat. I explained that I didn’t care about cross contamination, just ingredients. He then continued to give me examples of how cross contamination could happen and that he could not guarantee that anything was vegan. I told him again, I didn’t care about that.
He then asked me again why I was asking him instead of reading the menu. I told him that I just got here and I haven’t even had a chance to look through the whole thing and that he would know more about what’s vegan than what the menu said. He handed it back to me and said, «Read it». I closed the menu, put it down, and said, «No.»
My friend said that we should probably go. Our server walked away and returned with the check for my friend. Not engaging him at all, I sat and stared at my friend.
The server returned with the check and then started, «It seems like you walked into the wrong door.»
«This is my first time here…» I began
He interrupted, «And the last time. I’ll make sure you never come back here again.»
He then mentioned something to the effect of being offended by my vegan question.
I then said, «You’re in Seattle. You’re surrounded by vegans. This is your job.»
He then mentioned something along the lines of ensuring that I never come back.
I replied, «This place is kind of cute, I like it. It’s too bad you’re such a dick.»
He then said menacingly, «You don’t know where you are…»
I said, «Are you going to try to hurt me?»
Our server then vaguely motioned to the back of the restaurant as if there was someone back there that was, in fact, capable of hurting me. As he tried to murmur something, my friend interjected and we made our way out.
Now I am not exaggerating. That is the worst I have ever been treated for anything, which probably means I lead a very charmed life, socially. The kicker was that his snark and hate went from 0 to 100 SO FAST. No sign of a joke, no sign of him overreacting to being asked if there were vegan options, just instant hate. I don’t treat people the way I treated him. I have received such little crap over my life for being vegan that I’ve never had to. But boy oh boy, did this call for it. What a terrible experience.

The best chicken fried steak I’ve had in my life. Despite always busy and understaffed, the service comes with a smile. The food is fantastic and the prices aren’t terrible.

We love this place! Have been here numerous times. Fantastic breakfast place with great Seattle ambience. Fantastic food! Comfy booths. Worth the wait if there’s a line. Cool retro neon sign outside. If you have diners with from out of town, this has a cool Seattle vibe. Laid back but attentive and friendly staff. Always look forward to a reason to return. Lovely portions; will tide you over till dinner, for certain. Hash browns are heavenly.

This place looks like a dive bar and a diner mixed together. This place is great for hangover food or if you just want a really greasy breakfast.
I’ve heard good recommendations for their coffee, but didn’t end up trying it.
FOOD:
I got the corned beef hash but it wasn’t that great. Not enough meat in it, slightly bland, but still oily and slightly soggy. It didn’t taste bad, but it could’ve been a lot better.
My friend ordered the salmon Benedict. They don’t use smoked salmon. It was nothing special.
They broke the yolk in the overhard eggs I ordered, and I typically don’t like that.
SERVICE:
Attentive staff, really nice. Quick to refill our water and drinks.
VERDICT:
The food isn’t memorable. Not worth going out of your way for it, but if you want a hearty, full meal at a decent price, this is the place to go. You’ll walk out feeling pretty heavy and satisfied.
Wouldn’t come back though. Go to Toulouse petit for brunch!

This was my second brunch at Mecca — the first being several years ago — and not much had changed. The place still looks like a dive and it’s still hot as hell on the inside. Not kidding. HOT. But the coffee is heaven, the food is well-​made and delicious, and the staff have the rhythm of a well-​oiled machine. This is the «greasy spoon» diner that all others aspire to be.
My companion and I eat brunch at a local diner a couple of times a month at home and it’s a good spot. But the Mecca is a great spot. It’s like when you eat NY pizza and then you go home to your favorite pizza joint. You’re spoiled for a bit until the memory of the great faraway spot fades, and then you fall back in love with the local haunt.
I had raved to my companion (a first-​time visitor to Seattle) about the Salmon Benedict at Mecca, and it’s amazeballs. But he chose the Salmon Sauté and it didn’t disappoint. It looked and smelled amazing and it must have been good, because his plate was wiped clean in short order.
I went with a custom omelette — spinach, tomatoes, onion, and Swiss cheese with hash browns and sourdough toast. The omelette was perfectly made. Like it looked perfect, it tasted perfect, it was just perfect. The hash browns were equally as perfect — crispy on the outside and beautifully soft — dare I say creamy — on the inside.
The coffee is the best diner coffee I’ve ever had — and their description on the menu attests to its charm: «$ 2.49 for 3 cups or 1 hour of rental space. You know who you are.» It’s Sumatra Mandheling and it tasted like heaven. I actually whimpered when the server took my mug away to refill and temporarily forgot to bring it back to me. She was slammed that morning (I think they were short a server) but she still gave us great service (aside from depriving me of coffee for 3 long minutes).
There was a gent helping serve food that I’m guessing was either the manager or the owner and he always offered encouragement and compliments to the kitchen staff when he approached the pass-​through to pick up orders. Considering how busy they were and how ungodly hot it was in the place, I’m sure they needed and appreciated the kind words.
So I guess you could say I’m a fan of Mecca. If you find yourself in Seattle, especially in the Queen Anne district, please stop by. You won’t regret it and you may fall in love just like I did.

I’m in town with a large group of high school students. We stumbled across this place and I wasn’t sure if it’d be a good fit for our group. We were pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff and generous portions. Mecca Café is a hidden gem.

There is nothing in this world that I love more than breakfast. The diner breakfast is merely one of the many, albeit most important, variations of this meal. I can truly say that The Mecca produces one of the best variations of diner breakfasts that I have ever tasted. It was so good that I went back two straight days.
The first day I ordered the Deckhand – a nightmare for my health – but a love affair for my taste buds. The Deckhand consists of two sausage links, two pieces of bacon, two massive flapjacks, three eggs and hash browns. Each was done perfectly, but especially the flapjacks.
The second day I ordered the biscuits and gravy, eggs and hash browns. Again, everything was delicious, but I was craving the flapjacks.
If you come to Seattle then come here. Period.

Great little place, with fun servers and good food.
My salmon sauté was much smaller than I had expected, with hasbrowns to fill the void, but it was pretty good regardless. The Deck Hand was a big success with my dining partner (the added cheesy eggs probably helped). Coffee is good and plentiful.
Prices are moderate. I suggest visiting for the ambiance and people (especially Houston, who was down to earth, and obviously having fun at work), as well as the variety on the menu.

Perfect little gem! My group and I came here for breakfast and it was a good call. Everything was delicious, no wait time, friendly workers and awesome décor. They serve soda in a «pitcher type» cup which is totally unique. Bacon was yummy!!! (mmmmm need some now) and the waitress who helped us was very nice. Would definitely return! We went back on a Saturday night to get some fries (late night munchies) and apparently there’s a little bar connected so you will be asked for an ID but besides that, awesome vibes and delicious food!

Not a bad place for yummy American chow! The servers are super friendly and ready to sit down and talk with you (our guy did and told us a funny story). Large menu selection and lots of comfort food. The seating is a little limited if you’re coming in with a big group. Several booths that fit 4 max and the rest is bar stool seating.

Great place! Highly recommend for breakfast. Atmosphere is inviting. Service is quick. Food is great!

It only gets one star, and thats for the food, which was good, but there is a bigger issue here.
After my friends and I had a very hearty breakfast, The check came, I pulled out my prepaid emerald mastercard that ive been using for years, not just for tax returns, and handed it to the woman serving our table. The receipt comes back, JUST the receipt… I decide to let it be a test of character, and so I dont mention my missing card. I leave the restaurant.
I walk to my car and knowing what has just happened, I take a seat and proceed to call them, even tho I am just a parking lot away. The woman who served us answers, and I explain I didnt get my card back, she was sure she gave it back, but I already knew better. After a brief pause so she could look again, she quickly began to exclaim «I didnt take your card. Im so sorry but I dont have it» verbatim.
I calmly hang up and proceed to call my card services to have it turned off, luckily for me I have a spare card, so my vacation was not ruined.
I guess what im getting at is aside from the food being alright, and the place being a little cozy, the people there are not trustworhy, and I can only imagine how many other people who arent as sharp as I who have been intentionally done wrong at the hands of a café with tons of potential.
I wont be returning to Mecca Café, even if I were paying cash, and would not recommend it to anyone I care about.

Part dive bar, part all-​hours diner — completely great. The regulars are laid back and the staff is sincerely friendly. Great food and a full bar. Must-​stop spot if you are in Lower Queen Anne.

This place was great for atmosphere and breakfast food.
The place was a little small, but that’s part of the appeal. Booths would seat 2 comfortably but larger parties will have to sit along the bar. The staff was pretty nice. Snarky but also part of the plan.
The food was awesome. Portions were huge. The prices were good and it tasted great. Make sure you get some bacon. Definitely a must try.

It’s a quiet diner and it’s reasonably priced. I got the French toast and eggs which was good, and my sister got the waffle; I thought it tasted odd. The portion sizes aren’t too big, so if you’re super hungry it might not fill you up. Service is average and it’s a cute spot, I probably wouldn’t make it a point to come here again though.

Wow. I come to Seattle from Boston for business quite often and today I decided to walk to this little café for breakfast before a long flight back east. I have to say everything was divine. Service was great, food was excellent… that bacon, though?! Out of this world! Coffee was fresh and refilled often. I previously had a favorite bfast spot in Seattle but Mecca is my new #1. I will come again!

I would have gave 5-​stars, However they leave the phone off the hook when their too busy to take to-​go orders! They also charge a fee for to-​go orders as well. Otherwise, the food is EXCELLENT! I am a vegetarian, and the quality of food is high.

Great local spot to come for breakfast. Casual diner feel. ORDER THE BACON. I was surprised at the price but wow, this is the best bacon I’ve had in Seattle. Huge pieces that melt in your mouth. Great Irish coffees, awesome service and overall great breakfast food. This will definitely become a go to spot for me.

Yummy breakfast. Just enough to satisfy but not over feed. The atmosphere is perfect for a hangover morning– low lighting, comfy booths and alcohol available whenever you want it. The service is great, fast and on point. Not expensive and totally laid back. The breakfast scramble was delicious as I was able to add in any kind of veggies that I wanted.

Stop looking, you found the place. We went for breakfast today and we’re probably going back tomorrow. I had the chicken fried steak, which came with two pieces of fresh sourdough toast, scrambled eggs, and hash browns. It was a ton of food and it was fantastic!
The atmosphere is legit. The staff is fun and a little snarky. There seemed to be a steady stream of neighborhood people coming in, and they turn it into a dive bar at night. Win. Win. Win.

So this is a «Cheers» kind of place. When I entered I quickly sensed that this place have regulars and they have people like me, newcomers. I appreciate the familiarity of the staff with the regulars and the hospitality extended to newcomers.
It is advertised as a Mediterranean restaurant but I did not pick up on anything remotely Mediterranean in this place… from menu, to people working to décor. I think it is a misnomer but since I came for breakfast, it wasn’t a big deal.
If you come here, come prepared to eat… a lot. My meal was large enough to be shared with two other people. I looked at my plate and thought it was a heart attack staring back at me.
The staff was friendly. Coffee good. Food came in a timely manner. Food was good but you have to work at messing up breakfast. I would recommend this place. But if you are looking for an upscale experience, you may not want to choose another place.
If I was local, I may consider becoming a regular.

Yes Seattle at its best, little hole in the wall! Four of us had breakfast. We sat at the bar. Wait staff was great, coffee great, food was great. So hungry forgot to take pix. Couldn’t finish all the hash browns «Browns» as they call me. Lots of food. Open late for the bar scene. Oh well. Till next time.

Whatever you do. Go for the bacon! It’s thick and big enough to fill anyone up. The side offering is 4 pieces.
Overall great atmosphere and awesome bar area to sit with two people for breakfast. Awesome employees who are quick to get your coffee refilled.

The most unexpectedly awesome thing about Mecca is how kid-​friendly they are. It doesn’t seem like a place where they would love kids, but the staff here treats my toddler like a celebrity whenever we come in. They all stop to admire how cute he is, he gets pre-​meal crackers to snack on, his food always comes out first, and if we sit in the back room, cartoons appear on the TV… and I’ve never asked for any of this, they just do it.
Not to mention, the food is always good and it’s especially great for curing hangovers. It’s nothing fancy, but it doesn’t have to be. If you’re drinking, the drinks are strong. It can get a bit crowded during breakfast on weekends, but even so, it’s worth the wait.

One pound of fries? With cheese AND chili? I died. The fries are really thick and potato-​y. I would prefer them to be thin and crispy but the chili and the cheese is so good on it. Ask for a side of jalapeños too. I tried the country fried chicken. It’s definitely a lot of comfort food here for those drunk nights. There’s a bar on the other side of the restaurant, so they card customers who are eating as well. Service was lacking but who can blame the lady. It was a good experience but I wish it wasn’t just two people and one pound of fries. I wish we had more old school diners like this in southern California.

First time here and YUM! i love the simplicity of this place. My friend and i ordered the deluxe burger (Lean ground beef patty with lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Served with your choice of potato salad, coleslaw, mecca fries or mashed potatoes and a pickle garnish.) and were thoroughly pleased.
I was asked what kind of cheese i wanted! Most places have their standard & you don’t usually choose the cheese unless you specifically ask, but I had a choice. A nice surprise!
The burger was served open face style so if you didnt want the tomatoes or onions you didn’t have to add it to your burger! simple, hassle free. The fries were also very flavorful and for once, not salty! Sodas were served in pitchers so drink up!
Def going to be skipping Dicks (a little ways down the same street) and swinging by Mecca’s more often. Will be back!

After living in QA for a couple years now, I can’t believe I only made it to Mecca Café today. I read through the reviews and was pretty excited to try it out. It was definitely worth trying out, especially if you enjoy good, but greasy, comfort food!
Next time, I’m definitely going to grab breakfast (served all day!).

If you like your cafes old, greasy, and dark then you need to come here. Even if you don’t, you should still probably come here.
Sister restaurant to the 5 Point in Belltown, Mecca Café is all the deliciousness without the crowd or angry members of Rage Against the Machine. Oh, there is the added bummer that they aren’t open 24 hours, but they do stay open until 4am on weekends and that’s good enough for me.
Health freaks beware: the food is heavy and comfort-​y but delicious. They do have salads, but why would you want a salad at a place like this? Go for the burger, or at least a plate of fries. You won’t be disappointed!

We had just checked out of our hotel and wanted to find a quick place to eat before going on a few more adventures. We came upon this dive bar/​breakfast café which officially established my bf’s conclusion that every restaurant in Seattle has a full bar. LOL
We came into this establishment and I didn’t really like the vibe at first. No one said hello or motioned us to seat or even really acknowledged us. I waited awkwardly for a while in our booth until our server finally came to greet us.
If it weren’t for her attention afterwards, I would’ve rated Mecca a little lower. She was conversational and affable. My bf also has a hobby of collecting shirts, mainly bro tanks, from places we visit. And our server fetched the different styles and sizes of shirts they offered. However, he prefers shirts that are softer and ended up not getting one.
Before we looked at the menu, we decided to get our ‘coffee’ fix by ordering stouts :). Eventually we decided on a hearty steak breakfast for him and eggs florentine for me. It was fine. Fuel for the day

My friend and I were looking for a brunch place at around 3PM on Sunday. and it’s safe to say that we couldn’t find any since brunch usually ends at around 3PM. Because we were pretty desperate for food, we ended up coming in here after looking it up on Unilocal.And I have to say, this is a pretty interesting find. I will agree with a few other Unilocalers that this place is basically a dive bar with booths and somehow serves diner food. So if you’re looking for a typical diner kind of atmosphere, this is definitely not for you.
HOWEVER, I will say that this place is pretty good for diner food. For what you pay for, they give you a lot. Plus, the food is pretty good. I got the «Turkey sandwich» which wasn’t really a sandwich, but I didn’t mind because it had mashed potatoes. And gravy. And that right there is my comfort food. It was slices of turkey on top of bread, topped with gravy. So good. The mashed potatoes were also good — there were small chunks of potatoes, so you could tell that it wasn’t made from powder. Again, the plate itself was huge, so I was actually really surprised I was able to finish the whole thing.
Not the traditional diner that you’d expect, but it’s pretty good if you want something that’s not pricey and filling.
