I got a cut and color from Thomas last week and it was my favorite cut ever. I am 35 with hard to manage curly hair. A lot of curly hair. I always wear it up. Thomas gave me some layers and my hair is sitting much nicer, it’s not big and horrible like it usually is. Thanks so much Thomas! I am a stay at home mom so I do not have time to blow dry and style but now I am just getting out of the shower putting crème in it and wearing it down. Thomas rocks! The owner, Joe is amazing as well. He really knows hair and genuinely enjoys his profession. Mode is the best hair salon in Seattle.

Like many of the reviewers here, I discovered this place through Groupon. The first time I had a basic all over color package with Marshall and it was a disappointing experience except for the great head massage. However I decided to give them another try and bought the full foil package deal from them and came in about a week ago. This time the experience was AMAZING. Tommy was friendly, knowledgeable, and very professional. Since this was my first time getting full foils and I am very low maintenance, I asked for his advice and what would look good on me and he gave a couple options and was very honest with me. He did everything in a timely fashion but never rushed the coloring process. My hair color and cut turned out just the way I imagined! I will definitely go back again, but only with Tommy.

I came here a few months ago to get my hair colored (full highlights) and wow, the experience was bad. first of all, Marshall couldn’t even get the color correct on which I wanted. yeah, it was okay but still wasn’t what we were talking about (and he brought out swatches to look at) and then started the highlight process. I have thick wavy Asian hair and you are going to back-​comb foils to my hair. back combing wavy thick hair is setting up yourself for disaster. unless you wash out my hair, put conditioner and try to loosen the knots you made you are going to tug at someone’s hair. mind you, my mom used to tie my hair as tight as possible but when you are tugging at someone’s hair and it finally goes through and you hit your client’s head pretty hard, you have a problem. the other stylist looked horrified as I looked at her with a «help me» look. it was a painful couple of hours of him just trying to brush out the mess he made. don’t go to him. PLEASE DON’T. JUST STAY AWAY

Very relaxing environment, amazing products and Joe is a magician. My hair loves this place and my mind loves the escape into the cocoon that is Mode Salon.

Have been seeing Cher for awhile now. Heard she was great with long hair and color. She knew from the get go what I was after as far as style and look. Have never had a bad experience with her since seeing her and have highly recommended her to all of my friends.
Her attitude has always been above reproach and very professional as well as the staff and owner. Was very impressed by the owner personally welcoming me to his salon.
Very happy with Cher. She’s so good, I refer to her as my personal stylist.
Parking isn’t ideal. I found parking at the Chase Bank building is as close as I can get.

I’ve been seeing Cher for a while now and am always really happy with the results. She takes the time to listen to what I want and goes out of her way to make sure I’m satisfied. When I wanted to cut my hair super short into a longish pixie style, we talked through it, she looked at my pictures and made it happen. Each month she’d tweak it based on my feedback. Now she’s helping me transition in to a short bob. I wanted to go with a fashion color a few months ago and she gave me the color I wanted and has helped me maintain it. She’s always been super pleasant and never makes me feel rushed. She listens to what I want and gives me suggestions on how the cut or color can best suit me. I’ve always had a great experience with Cher!
The salon is a little tricky to find the first time, but it’s easy to get to once you know where it is. Super easy to get to from the light rail.

If you are interested in balayage, go somewhere else. I’ve had an aversion to salons after my last guy didn’t listen to what I wanted and messed up my hair. (Literally chunks missing…) So I finally got the courage to go to a new salon– I bought a groupon. First mistake there. I was nervous and excited, so I researched pictures to show my person so there was no chance of screw up. Second mistake. I even took the bus for the first time down there– which was traumatizing enough.
The salon itself is nice. Love the artwork! The front desk girl was very friendly and helpful. She had me change into my smock and got me a fresh glass of water. I met with my girl and showed her what I wanted– told her I wanted contrast in the technique and more blonde than honey, and face framing with the color. I mentioned that my hair would probably have to process longer because that’s how my hair works. She didn’t listen to anything I said, or even look at the pictures. She was pleasant throughout though. Did a good job with my trim, but she could tell I was not satisfied with the «balayage» when she was finished– you could barely tell I had anything done. She told me she would fix it next week, I agreed. Third mistake.
I went back a week later. (4^th mistake?) I was treated differently when I came back. I was not suggested to change into a smock and we were given beverages with a little extra «umph» on the set-​down. I had a set picture this time– I thought there would be no confusion if I showed her less pictures to confuse her. I even brought my 20 question kind of friend to ask questions if she thought something right wasn’t going on. My previously quiet but friendly girl was becoming almost rude in her replies and actions. She got a little rough with my head too.
She barely let my color process before she whisked me away to wash it off. I should have said something but I trusted that she knew what she was doing. Apparently I trust to easy. (5^th mistake…)
My color is a dark honey/​brassy. No one wants to be brassy. My pictures were not brassy. I’ve been blonde before– I know what my hair changed to and I’ve had bad colorists before who have made me brassy. But I also know that if you’re not afraid of the developer– I can be a nice blonde, because I’ve had great colorists too.
On top of the less than desired color, the technique was not there– like at all. I get we’re test dummies since we are your groupon– but do some creative research before you mess with someone’s hair.
Anywhoo… I’m not sure if it’s because I purchased a groupon– which by the way is not actually as great of a monetary deal as I thought, but I will not be advocating or returning to the salon. Ever.
You have been warned. Let me know of a good colorist you might have to correct this monstrosity.

Let me say first, that I was nervous using a Groupon for a salon that I’ve never been to, with a stylist that I’ve never seen, but the nervousness was quickly replaced with excitement! I was a little thrown when I tried to find the salon, as it’s in a downtown commercial building, on the 4^th floor, but it was easy enough to find as soon as I got to the 4^th floor. The receptionist quickly checked me in, offered me coffee, tea, or water, and offered me to change into a scrub top, so my clothes wouldn’t be ruined from hair dye.
I then had one of my best salon experiences with Marshall. He was fabulous, making sure he understood what I wanted in my cut and bolyage. I’ve (finally) found my new stylist in Seattle :) When I was done (and thrilled) with my new ‘do, they offered me the same price for an additional cut and bolyage if I bought it right then. Since I’d already paid for my Groupon and didn’t pay anything but the gratuity that day, I gladly purchased another cut and bolyage with Marshall. Now I don’t have to pay next time!
I would highly recommend Mode, and especially Marshall, if you’re looking for a new stylist, or if you haven’t found that «fit» with any stylists in town yet.

This review is for bayolage and haircut only with Marshall and does not apply to facial. I love facials at mode and if I could write a separate review for facial I would give it 5 stars. I purchased a deal for bayolage and haircut and made an appointment with Marshall. I received a phone call that he is running 15 –20 minutes late but it was already 10 minutes before my appointment and I had already paid for parking. My appointment started 30 minutes later than originally schedules and Marshall was apologetic for that and it would not be a problem on its own. When Marshall started to foil on my hair, I pointed out that I purchased a deal for bayolage but Marshall said that everyone does a bayolage differently and he does it with foil. I thought not a big deal, as long as the result is good. I wanted more contrast in my hair but my hair ended up looking more dull. When I mentioned that my hair looked dark after washing, Marshall seemed irritated and said that I should wait to judge until it is dry. I have a thin hair and Marshall blow dried it in a way that made it look really limp. When he saw I was not happy, he offered to curl it but the way he did, it looked like an «old lady do». At that point I wanted to cry. The lady at the front counter offered for me to come back to have my color redone since I was not happy. Considering that it would be awkward going back and I might end up with another bad hair day, I think I will go to my usual salon. The long story short, I left the salon 2.5 hours and over $ 100 later with a dull hair and bad hairdo. Part of the fun of getting a hair done is having it dried better than what I can do myself, this was not the case. Luckily, I was home in time to wash and dry my hair before going out. I did get a ends trim, not a full haircut and that turned out well.

Leaving the doors of Mode salon, I’ve always got a beautiful do and bounce in my step. The energy of the salon is a combination of hip/​urban/​modern with the perfect dose of pampering. I look forward to my cut, blow outs and partial fouls and Mode salon. I highly recommend Mode Salon.

Three weeks ago, my rating would have been four stars, but I just had the most disappointing experience with this salon. A customer at Mode going on three years (cuts and highlights), I had an appointment scheduled since September for the weekend of the 14^th. I received a call from Mode on the 7^th to cancel because the building would be closed. I always do Saturday appointments since I work on the eastside, and the next available appointment she offered me was over a month away. They did not offer to work with me at all or offer another stylist that could see me. She even asked me «Just what would you like us to do? It’s not our fault the building was closed.» when I got frustrated that they were leaving me hanging like this. I wish that I could wait an extra month, but unfortunately an extra month is pretty noticeable when you have highlights. She mentioned how the stylists even came in early that day to help fit customers in, but I guess I didn’t make the grade for that allowance.
Simply put, this is not how I expect to be treated after being a loyal customer. I’ve had appointments cancelled on me elsewhere before, but always with a degree of flexibility to make it up. I hoped we could work something out without me having to take time off of work or spell it out for them. Despite the fact that I’ve been mostly pleased with their services, if I can’t rely on them to keep appointments to maintain the services they provide, then how good is it? I’ve since cancelled all of my remaining appointments and will no longer recommend their services. Very disappointing.

The owner Joe got back to me and graciously offered to have me come back and do my hair. He went above and beyond to fix my hair and make it a really enjoyable experience. My hair came out exactly how I wanted and I walked away very happy!

I have been coming in to see the master aesthetician at Mode, Christine, monthly for awhile now. She knows her stuff, provides high quality services and is super nice. She has also given me really great and honest skin care recommendations. I splurged on a serum she recommended and have bought a second bottle since then, as I noticed significant improvement in my skin. Super convenient location too — this place is a keeper.

At age 41, I’ve gotten more compliments on my skin than I have in my entire life. People ask me my secret and I guess it’s only fair to share. I’ve been seeing Christine at Mode every 6 weeks or so for the last 3 years for a 60 minute facial and some waxing. According to my friends and family, I have never looked better.
I have incredibly sensitive skin so I am very picky about what I use on it and who gets to touch it. I initially went to Mode because it’s one of the few places that uses Eminence Organic skin care. I can’t stand the smell and feel of harsh chemicals so finding the right product line was my first challenge. Second, was finding someone who wouldn’t leave me feeling like I’ve lost a layer of skin or left my skin in worse shape than when I arrived.
Christine is sweet and attentive and really good at what she does — best neck, shoulder, arm massage ever! Plus, my left eye does not close completely as a result of Bell’s Palsy, which can be a real disaster during a facial, but Christine is very careful to keep product away from my eye without my ever having to remind her. I know she has tons of clients but she never forgets my specific needs.
I feel completely revived and relaxed every time I leave there. Not to mention my skin looks and feels amazing. I look forward to every appointment and can’t recommend the skin care services at Mode enough. Definitely treat yourself!

I got a facial here and would not recommend it. The Esthetician was friendly, but very rough and harsh. She was taking my eye makeup of so aggressively it was painful and I had to ask her if I could do it myself. The facial was NOT relaxing. It was extremely rough and uncomfortable at times.
All the scents of products she was using were distracting as well. None of the scents matched.
I would never go here again for a facial.

I went to Cher for the first time. She was great. When at first the cut wasn’t quite what I wanted, she happily took all the time needed until it was exactly what I wanted. I looked better than I hoped to! Everyone there is so friendly & welcomed me and my dog warmly. Don’t pass on the cucumber water – it’s delicious! I will definitely be back.

This place was a joke and waste of my time today!!! The lady stylist asked me to stand up to cut my long hair! Really? Never will go back. My neighbor can cut hair like that.

Gorgeous, bright, airy loft space in downtown Seattle — perfect for a quick, convenient blowout before my friend’s wedding.
My stylist, whose name I unfortunately cannot remember, was super awesome and knew exactly what to do with my hair when I told her to make it pretty. The soft curls and waves lasted all the way through the afternoon/​evening, and she was super sweet and chatted with me while styling my hair.
Really like this place, and I’ll totally keep it in mind if I’m ever in need of a hair job next time I’m in Seattle!

If you check in they give you 10% off, otherwise hair cuts are 55 $ with Adam. I did refer a friend to come here and I still have not received my certificate in my email box. If you refer a friend i was told it will take a few weeks and you need print it out beforehand. I thought I could redeem at the current hair appointment since I went with my friend and we double booked together but that was not possible. Make sure you double check your email address before you leave and get our 20 $ off referral reward because apparently my referrals was going to another person!
The hair cut here is on the expensive side since I am a college student but I thought Adam did a good job. He is very meticulous and they have massage chairs and give you tea if you are waiting. Con is parking! It is down town so I feel like most people are used to it by now but I parked at a lot that was 8 $ for the day. If you can take the bus I guess that would be ideal.
Adam did say that he would give free bang trims in between hair cuts. I think I will continue to come here because I think Adam does a good job.
When you make your appointment ask for a consultation as well because that way they will give you more time to tell him what you want. Hopefully I will get my referrals in my email soon because I have been raving about mode to many of my friends.

I gave this salon another try. I like that they are organic.
Tara Moon colored my hair red and it stayed red for about a month this time. Now it is fading into a pretty strawberry blond. She listened to what color I wanted (I showed her a picture) and she made it that color.
The only negative was a few sections of hair didn’t pick up any of the color, luckily they were all underneath so it didn’t really show.
I bought the expensive shampoo Tara suggested and I think that helped my color stay in longer.
