Myrtle Edwards Park

Love spending a nice sunny day at the park with a view of mt rainier on one side and the olympic ranges on the other and a book in hand. Great trail for a run or walk and fresh air free all day long. Easily accessible. Like the fact that they have 2 separate tracks for pedestrians and cyclists.

Beautiful park with ample paths and green space. You can’t beat the view at sunset. It s a great place to get your daily walk or run in, especially if you have a dog!

A beautiful park in the middle of the city. It’s hard to believe that this place can feel so calm and serene! The view is beautiful and the trails are well-​kept. They have separate walking and biking trails which is really nice. Great place to visit on a sunny spring day!

This is one of my favorite parks in Downtown Seattle if not the best. You can’t beat the views you get from this place. I’ve seen seals here sunbathing and pups and they are so stinking adorable (it says to stay a safe distance away on signs). Its a great place to walk your dog, go bike riding, running (what? psh…), or even have a picnic. They have a huge grass field which my dog Chloe loves running in circles on. Its clean and its connected to the sculpture park which is an added bonus. If you just wanted to enjoy the waterfront, this is a must go-​to park

Myrtle Edwards Park hits basically every high note for me. If you want to sit on driftwood by the water you can do that. If you want to take a nice run and watch the sunset, it’s perfect for it. Want to take a loved one on a relaxing picnic? Take your pick of green grass or tables. There is even a small rose garden to meet your daily quota of stopping to smell the roses.
It is understandably crowded when the weather is nice, but it is still worth it. Such a beautiful setup keeps me coming back time and time again.

I had some free time while waiting for a friend so I decided to do some exploring. I was at Pike Place Market and just chose a direction to start walking. I stumbled upon this park and immediately fell in love. Literally. The moment I saw that first beach, I was ready to move to Seattle. Maybe it’ll happen sometime in the future.
There are multiple mini ‘beaches, although most of have pebbles instead of sand. There are plenty of trees to provide shade and fallen tree trunks that you can sit on. The views are amazing everywhere you go. It feels calming and relaxing here. I came on a Friday afternoon when the weather was absolutely gorgeous but it wasn’t crowded at all.
The only downside is the lack of bathrooms. I walked at least an hour from the south end but didn’t encounter a single one.
Nonetheless, I adored this park and can’t wait to come back!

Petty nice path for running though if you are a slow poke like me, watch out for psycho fast runners. I love that the bike and foot paths are separate for safety. Really nice views along here of the water and the mountains in the distance including Rainer at some times. The connection from the sculpture garden and he waterfront from here to the Gillman trail makes for a good starting point for a decent length run.

One of Seattle’s prime parks. Lots of grassy areas for picnicking, never too crowded and less you’re there for Hempfest ;). In that case there might be 300,000 other people. A great view of the waterfront and across to Alki beach with the seawall lining it. if you’re downtown and are looking to go for a run, go down through the waterfront over across through this park. Great place.

Some of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen in life, son!
I’ve seen sunrises and sunsets from two different oceans. From Maine to the Bahamas and from Mexico to the Philippines, I’ve whitenessed the coming of the morning and the end of the day. I don’t live in Seattle, however this past year I’ve visited a half dozen times and I’ve seen the sunsets during the spring, the fall and finally, the winter. Everyday I was here, I saw that sun drop just over the mountains, along with my jaw as I shook my head at the marvel of life; epecailly, my own. Dramatic? Lil bit.
Once upon a time, I almost lost my life. This life is so fleeting and if it’s one thing I took away during that moment of clarity is that the little moments in the short time we have on earth should be savored. From food, to fun, to family, to love, to a… sunset over some rocks miles away… these moment, like many others, should not be taken for granted, because one day you will never see it again. Now, THAT’S some (Korean) dramatic stuff right there, gurl !
If you get the chance to visit this park, or happen to be walking past during dusk and you have five minutes, do yourself a favor and savor an amazing moment here at the edge of the water. Trust me, you can spare 5 – 10 minutes of your day. That sunset happens fast, but its beauty lingers forever in the mind. I promise you this, you will walk away each time with a different feeling and as long as you want it to be, it will always be a good one.

Amazing park in my opinion! Wonderful views of the Sound and the city, miles of walking and bike trails, and just a great place to hang out and people watch.
This park is super popular during the busy lunch hour in downtown and is also home to the legendary Hempfest. There’s a lot of people that come here but since it’s so big you never really feel crowded (unless Hempfest is going on lol then it’s packed).
It’s a very nice location that leads you from the waterfront to lower Queen Anne and to the beginning of Magnolia area. There’s also the Olympic Sculpture park and Centennial park that is connected so you can spend a lot of time here walking around and enjoying the sights.

Great place to walk around and enjoy a sunset, view of the water, etc. Awesome walking path with tons to see, such as:
–Sculptures
–Water
–People
–Buildings
–Horizon
–islands
–ferry-​s/​boats
–etc…
Take a lady here and you will have a great date walking along the pier. There are tons of places to eat nearby for all price ranges.
I don’t know why they don’t use this place to hold more events! This is a untapped resource!

After 1 day in Seattle, my husband commented on how little green space there is in downtown Seattle — it’s not just the weather that makes it feel gray a lot but also all the buildings/​shopping/​financial district. Thank goodness for Myrtle Edwards/​Centennial Park — it is a breath of fresh air and green space to go for a walk or run in by the Puget Sound. If you are not staying at a waterfront hotel, it may be a 20 minute walk from Pike Market/​shopping district area.
During the week on a typical rainy Seattle day, the park was quiet with a few runners and walkers. Of course expect more people when the sun comes out or at the end of the work day.
The rose garden is a small romantic spot even when the roses are not in bloom.
My husband enjoyed the informational displays along the path too regarding the sound and the salmon.
After spending an hour walking through the park, we were ready to make are way up the hill back to the gray city streets.
I have not seen any wart fountains or restrooms so be prepared for that.

A Birder’s Perspective
Nice peaceful retreat in the middle of the city. A good place to teak a break, enjoy some views, go for a walk/​jog and also see some interesting birds. Some of the highlights of my evening there were the Barrow’s Goldeneye (50+), Common Goldeneye (1), American Wigeon (30+), Eurasian Wigeon (1 — this guy is going to have some birders visiting this season), grebes, cormorants, gulls, etc.
Overall a fun place that made my evening with the rare Eurasian Wigeon.

Went running along the trail here from pier 66 to the end. Well paved, well maintained, calming views along the water, with separate paths for bikers and pedestrians. Just a quick hop skip jump from downtown.

Breath taking views of the Puget Sound. Perfect for relaxing, playing a little game of whiffle ball (or whatever your preference), running, dog walking, etc.
The thing I love most about Myrtle Edwards is the walking trail down to pier 66 where all the restaurants, shops, terminals, and even the Great Wheel are located.
Very easy to get to as well. Especially with the boardwalk from the other side of Elliot.

Not to sound like a total creep, but:
Myrtle Edwards is a great spot to bird dog chicks.
There are ALWAYS fit looking Seattleites running in this park. It makes me really want to step up my 1 mile runs on the treadmill at the Y.
Also visit for Shawn Kemp sightings. I saw him at Myrtle Edwards last time I was around. Come to think of it… he was jogging with one of those fit looking Seattle sirens too.
4 stars for the park that hosts girls who say no to candy bars and old NBA players who hitch rides in police cars.

If I lived in Belltown or downtown I would be at this park on a daily basis.
There really isn’t much else to do at this park besides run, bike or walk around and soak in views of the city & the Sound. I have seen some people fishing off the rocky shore and I’ve also seen people sunbathing on the grass, and at the north end of the park there is a boardwalk for more legit fishing. There is a little beach area which is pretty small and not very inviting to me for some reason… but I’m glad its there. The park also snakes past a huge grain terminal for ocean-​going cargo ships which is pretty interesting to observe as you run, walk, bike or skate by.

I’ve been coming here since the early 80s. It’s beautiful! And it’s way less crowded than other walkable parks like Green Lake. (But don’t tell anyone, because then it will get crowded.)

What a perfect place for a long run. Right along the sound, mountains in the background, salt water air.sigh. i could literally run here for miles and miles. What a way to clear the mind and get some exercise!

Tiny gem tucked along the waterfront next to Olympic Sculpture Park between the downtown piers and Ballard locks. Great bike paths, has a quaint rose garden, a small expanse of rocky beachfront good for photography, plenty of grassy expanse for lounging or reading. Really nice to have this park so close to downtown, esp. for all Belltown residents. Offers the best unobstructed views of Elliott Bay.

It kills me that I used to live so close to the beach and I probably only went there twice the whole time I lived over there.
I love being able to escape Belltown at Myrtle Edwards. Skipping rocks, watching the sunset, taking a walk along the sound… I love having an escape only a few blocks away from the city and I’m going to make an effort to come by more often.

As a lot of reviews have mentioned that for Myrtle Edwards Park, the big appeal is, of course, the panaromic views of Puget Sound, Alki and downtown.
So who was Myrtle Edwards anyway? She was a popular member of the Seattle City Council in the 1950’s/60’s and one of her passions was public parks. She died in a car crash in 1969.
For this review, I mainly wanted to point out a parking lot for this park which I don’t think most people even know exists, because there are a ton of parking slots and never more than 10% are filled. This parking lot is at the extreme north end of the park. You get to it by taking the exit off West 15^th Ave. to the piers (same exit ramp as the one for Magnolia Bridge, but you take the left fork in the road).
Also too, because this parking lot is on Port and not city property, there are not the usual Seattle nanny-​state rules, i.e. no maximum number of hours you can park, no park closing hours, etc. etc. The Port just asks that you employ back-​in parking.
If you come here for a jog and want to continue past the south end of Myrtle Edwards Park and go along Alaskan Way, it’s nice, because even if the sidewalk is jammed with tourists, there are about two feet of space on the sidewalk between the street and the row of parking signs/​light poles/​shrubs, so you can slip through crowds unimpeded, using the strip as needed.
For me, in my leisurely way, it was an 80 minute round trip jog from the north end of Myrtle Edwards down to the Washington State Ferry terminal and back.
Myrtle would have been five stars, but they have two paths — the bikes get a double-​wide path and the pedestrians are shoved off onto a narrow rutted, tree root-​buckled trail… and that’s not fair. ;-)
