A graduate of the prestigious Howard University College of Dentistry Class of 2001. A recipient of numerous academic and clinical awards culminating to his induction into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (PIPI Chapter), an elite National Honor Dental Society for select graduating Students based on academics and professionalism.

Dr Nkwonta received his Bachelors of Architecture Degree from the University of Oregon in 1989 and practiced Architecture for seven years before attending Dental School. He is married and enjoys family time with his children and relatives, enjoys traveling when time permits and an ardent soccer enthusiast. Dr Nkwonta belongs to numerous dental associations.

Avoid this practice.
I was also a patient of Dr. Zantua, and was sad when she left, as hers was the only dental office I actually ever liked going to. I’d hoped the office atmosphere might stay the same after her departure. It didn’t, unfortunately, because most of the staff turned over.
I had numerous frustrating experiences here once it became Dr. Nkwonta’s practice; equipment not working, computers not working, etc. Most frustratingly was his lack of «bedside manner.» I found him very impersonal.
But — like other patients — what really made me decide to stop going here was when I got a call about a month after a routine cleaning (with no flossing, btw… ?), saying that I needed to schedule a deep cleaning the Dr. & I had discussed. Uh… nope. We never discussed that. I was told it would cost hundreds of dollars (and I am insured), and that I’d agreed to set it up. I’m extremely money-conscious and know I would’ve been freaking out about something like this well in advance. I have ZERO recollection about talking with him about deep cleaning.
I agreed to schedule an appointment, but called right back and cancelled, telling them I am no longer a patient, and that I found this to be pretty unethical. It seems like this is a go-to for him. The staff is friendly, the office is very homey and comfortable, but I seriously disagree with Dr. Nkwonta’s approach to dentistry.

I went to Drs Zimmerman for years and had Dr. Zantua once and had no problem and then they both left and decided to give Dr Nkwonta a chance. He told me I needed 4 crown and I had him do one and when he got done, told me I might have to have a root canal down the road and I asked him why he didn’t do that first and he tpld me he could just take the cap off, do the root canal and put the cap back on. I decided I would get a second opinion and went to get my x-rays I paid for and they told me there would be a charge of $ 25.00 or more. I therefore went to a different dentist who is well known and he said I paid for my x-rays and there should not be a charge and he had never heard of doing caps before root canals. I am very disappointed and would never go back again and certainly not recommend them.

Todays experience having a filling repaired was most relaxing, I was in and out in a timely manner, all while being attended to by the dentist himself along with his professional staff. Warm and friendly, yes. But most important my tooth feels wonderful. He does excellent work.

May/2/2013 continued.
Found out today that Dr. Nkwonta billed my insurance for a cleaning of which I complained about when I left them. I was clear it was not a cleaning and I let them know I was no longer going to be using their services. I’m not even sure the dental Hygienist could see what she was doing as the dental light in that room didn’t work and she wanted to switch rooms but there were none available.
I spoke to Dr. Nkwonta today on the phone requesting that they reverse the cleaning charge on my insurance. He refused and was mad that i would Unilocal about his practice.
Understanding customer services, there are a few things I have learned.
The customer is always right. What is is worth to you when you know you have lost this customer to continue to defend the fact that the services you rendered on that given day was not sub par?
It’s far better to have an upset customers feel a small win and be done with it, then to try and push your point across.
I’m sure Dr. Nkwonta has happy customers but the experience I had initially and then to have him get on the phone to tell me that I’m wrong and what I Unilocaled about isn’t true, is further insulting.

My first experience was the last for me. After a useless and bad teeth cleaning, an extremely painful perio probing and bad x-rays gave me the impression these people are something to run away from.

I was a patient of Dr Zantua’s for years and I find Dr, Nkwonta to be an excellent dentist. I am very happy and the staff is super friendly & accommodating. To each their own, but I have no problem with some of the hygenists that were there being gone!
