The customer service at this place left me speechless, and not in a good way. I have never experienced a situation in which a product I paid $ 150+ for broke within two months and the staff at the place I bought it from made ME feel guilty for trying to return it.
My friend bought a fairly high end, reasonably expensive office chair from this location because he wanted to try it out before buying it and Amazon doesn’t have a showroom. It came with a little piece of paper declaring a 5 year warranty, so he was pretty comfortable with the purchase until he’d had the chair for less than 8 weeks and the entire front portion of the leather ripped away from the back. This wasn’t a small rip – it was debilitating. The thing was useless. And the rip came from seemingly nowhere. It’s not like he was doing stunts in this chair; he was literally just sitting at his computer doing office work.
When we brought the product in to return it, we had the receipt and the paper with the warranty. A man in an Office Depot shirt watched us walk in and then sauntered up to us while giving us a stink eye worthy of an old western. He said, with zero smile on his face or in his voice, «How can I help you?» while continuing to give us the stink eye. When my friend explained and handed him the paper with the warranty, the man literally said, «You should’ve bought a warranty.» With some incredulity on our end, we pushed him to explain. Turns out that warranty it came with was from the manufacturer and Office Depot wanted nothing to do with it unless we bought another 2 year warranty from them for $ 30.
After a few minutes of our continuing to inquire about this seemingly insane policy, as this man tried to sell us a «better» warranty, he said, again with zero pleasantry, «I’m not supposed to do this, it’s against protocol, but I’ll replace the chair. But you should still buy this other warranty on it this time!»
We ended up leaving with a replacement chair, a new warranty through Office Depot, and a decision to never use this store again except as a makeshift storefront for Amazon. Seriously, we will go here to sit in the chairs, check out the office furniture or product, leave, and buy it on Amazon, because at least there we know we will get our money back if the product is faulty. Office Depot is going to put itself out of business with policies like this. If you sell me a product, take responsibility for it, and train your people to behave like they actually want you to leave happy.

Like every office store, they are out of the computer ink you need. But easy enough to pull off the busy road to run in and check. The young clerk helping me was very nice, and found lots of fun rando stuff I didn’t need (especially in the clearance section in the back of the store). Feels like a safe enough area for a lady alone at night looking for computer ink to come.

Greeted promptly upon entry to the store front. They share the same building w/​the Starbucks HQ and Sears. Prices are slightly more than other office supply stores. Staff can be more attentive in helping customers. Store is organized by different categories w/​laptops, tablets and small accessories plus snacks next to the registers. Parking is very easy.
If they would like to earn a customer’s trust and have them return for future visits then you have to have the enthusiasm to make their shopping experience the best possible. Got an item from one of the isles and put it in a small bin, but found a similar item that cost much less. Got approach by an associate that told me he can help me at the nearby register. He told me in a rude attitude to bring that item from the isles to him. Went through w/​the transaction, but not satisfied w/​the customer service experience. Is it tough to go around the store and see what you can put back into the isles instead of wasting the customer’s time?

I had a hard time finding a salesperson, and when I finally did, he didn’t really seem very interested in helping me. He showed me the aisle I’d already been looking at and then walked off. I ultimately found something similar to what I was looking for (clear plastic paper sleeves) on the other side of the store. I was also surprised that they didn’t have any staple guns. I’ll go elsewhere in the future.

I’d done some research online for seeking a good, inexpensive and simple durable chair. Too lazy for having it shipped, I stopped by and asked about the online savings translating at the store, as well. Some do and some are separate, I was told.
I decided to browse around a bit, I mean, since I was there ‘might as well, right? Plenty of office/​business needs can be found from stationary to computers — to chairs! =) I went back to the chair section and found my discounted online chair for the same on the floor: black or mahogany: mahogany (matches my table).
The staff were helpful. The older gentleman tried squeezing in the pitch for chair assembly and/​or some warranty thing. I kindly declined and he faded away while still pitching it a bit, hahah.

This Office Max is in a pretty random location. It is in SODO and shares the same building as Sears and Starbucks HQ.
They are open early on Monday through Friday, probably to serve the thousands of Starbucks employees that work in the building.
Their selection is okay. I would say prices are a little on the high side, so I recommend coming for sales and/​or have a coupon on hand, unless it is an item you cannot wait on.
Their hidden stash of clearance items in the back corner is pretty fun to browse through. They have discounted items like pens, binders, folders, pencil cup holders, dry erase markers, etc. You never know what you will find here!

Located south of the stadiums in what is one of Seattle’s oldest brick buildings, this is one of the largest Office Max’s in the city. It shares the building with a Starbucks, Sears, and upper level offices. It also serves as a storage warehouse for the University of Washington.
While the selection at this Office Max is good, I would not come here for services such as mailing, copying, or other office projects. While you might be able to get the item you see in the sales ad I don’t believe the service desk can meet the needs for today’s business requirements for modern office work and there are neighboring businesses that offer more services at a better rate. The workers also had the retail ‘thousand-​yard stare’ if you could find one. While I might come here for that hard to find ad sales item I won’t make this a regular stop.

I left OfficeMax yesterday frustrated and angry; I had taken a print job to the copy center and was at first helped out by a nice young lady who was making an honest effort to help me. She got called away to finish another print job and was replaced by her manager, who was of no help at all. My print job, which worked fine at home, was outside the margins on their machines, and instead of helping me format the document so it would fit, she asked me to drive home, fix it, convert it to a .pdf, and bring it back so she would have an easier time printing it. I inquired if she could help me format it there and she said it would cost me $ 1 per minute. I okayed the charges and told her to go ahead since I was on a deadline, and she then just converted my document to a .pdf and said it wouldn’t work and that she couldn’t help me. I left confused and upset– hadn’t I just asked for her help and told her I would pay for it? I drove a few blocks away to Office Depot where they not only fixed my formatting issue for free, they cut my print job to the size I needed (again for free) and they were happy as pie to do it. Sorry, OfficeMax, you’ve lost a customer for life.

What’s going on here, are we all running out and buying label makers? Is everyone else trying to make cheap little stickers to vandalize club bathrooms everywhere?

It looks like this place had a good selection of labelmakers. At least, they had a whole bunch of empty racks where the cheaper (less than $ 99) labelmakers would live. Considering they only ever have about 2 people working there, I guess I understand the difficulty on keeping them labelmakers stocked.
Otherwise, I guess it’s pretty useful to be able to grab a king-​size snicker bar and 20oz coke at the register? Prices seem fair, and you can find just about anything else you need (except for a secretary. I don’t really need one, but I’m just saying).
