Peaks Frozen Custard

Let me get this out of the way first: I love frozen treats.
So, frozen custard? Yeah, I think so. I just happened upon Peaks. I had forgotten all about it being in the area, but alas my friend and I were out wandering along a while ago when I was still in Washington. When what should I smell? The sweet smell of waffle cones. Oh, heart be still.
I sampled. I ended up getting a little chocolate and a little vanilla. Nothing out of the ordinary. But the rich creaminess of the frozen custard was sooooo good.

A long time ago, there was a guy like me but a little younger who happened across a little shop on 65^th called Peak’s. On the window in massive letters read the flavor of the day. Walking inside the décor is modest and comfy but maybe a bit cold.
After his first taste of their vanilla froco he was hooked.
The custard has a soft serve luster with the flavors of vanilla warming over your body reminding you of more nostalgic times.
Some foods create new memories while others will take you back. I honestly can’t think of anything more representative of the latter.
Peak’s has truly become a staple of Seattle cuisine for me. I will find any excuse to make a dessert to pair with their frozen deliciousness. It has also become my go to frozen treat place when heading out for dates, meets, and anything really.
I would love to give this place a full 5 stars (which has yet to happen) but the only things holding me back are the ambiance and daily flavors being hit-​or-​miss. Let’s just consider my rating an effective 4.5 stars. However, on the vanilla custard alone it is definitely a 5.
Unfortunately, I recently found out Peak’s is closing shop this week.
Peaks, you will be missed! I hope there will still be opportunities to get your frozen custard.
To the staff and owner, I wish you all the best and I hope your journeys bring as for much happiness as your custard has to me.

Yum yum yum! The service is always a little apathetic, but whatever, it’s an In-​and-​out kind of place. Plus, they’ll give you a sample of something if you ask. (I asked what Blue Moon was. It’s not beer-​flavored. The SO and I decided it kind of tasted like Fruit Loops, which is… weird. We skipped that one) Flavors rotate frequently and can be viewed on their website, which is super helpful — I love when restaurants and shops utilize the internet and social media. How else are you going to find out more information? We’ve tried several flavors, and I can’t remember if I have a favorite. I think the Pineapple Caramel Swirl was just okay — not quite as caramel or pineapple as I expected — and I remember being disappointed by their Root Beer Float flavor. I have had some really delicious ones, though!
They make their waffle cones in house, so if you’re lucky, you can sometimes get a piping hot, fresh one. Well worth it.

I love me some Frozen Custard. There are really two places I consider great in Seattle. Peaks and Old School Frozen Custard. Both are really good.
Peaks is in a nice area and they have a very simple selection usually four kinds. We had the option of Lemon… which I got, Pineapple caramel swirl, chocolate, and Vanilla.
Lemon was amazing… almost like a lemon chiffon cheese cake, pineapple was just plain weird, and their chocolate was really tasty. Vanilla was meh.
They also do an amazing waffle cone sundae in a bowl, which my cousin got, but it must be 1000 calories… caramel, nuts tons of custard… it looked like a sugar inducing coma waiting to happen.

I had frozen custard for the first time a few years ago in NYC and have been searching for it ever since. Why did I never think to check Unilocal?
We only tried the chocolate and vanilla, but both were excellent. Incredibly smooth and creamy, and no hint of iciness at all. The vanilla was very custardy/​eggy tasting, and the chocolate was not too sweet. Scoops were generous, and single scoops were $ 3.30. I also liked how the cups were served with a piece of waffle cone.
Since it’s only a few miles from my friend’s house, I have a feeling this will be a must do every time we visit Seattle.

Peaks offers frozen custard, which apparently is not the same as ice-​cream or frozen yoghurt. They do have vanilla and chocolate flavors on a daily basis and 2 additional «daily» flavors that changes every day.
The guy behind the counter bar was friendly and helpful. He let me sample some of the flavors they had, too. The day I went, they had Blue Moon (a blue colored custard) which tasted quite delicious, although I still don’t know what ingredient it came from. I ended up taking 2 pints of different flavors home: Thai Ice Tea and Carrot Cake with Vanilla home (around $ 11.5 total for 2 pints, after tax).
Peaks also seems to have deals running on daily deal sites once in a while (e.g. Groupon), so it might be helpful to check some daily deal sites out before you go there :)

Step 1: Check the calendar on Peaks’ website and write down dates for the flavors you want to try.
Step 2: Remember to visit Peaks on the days you wrote down in step 1.
Step 3: Eat delicious frozen custard.
Protip: You can skip steps 1 and 2 and visit whenever you want because every flavor is delicious. Just don’t forget that they close at 9pm on weekdays and 10pm on weekends.

This place is AWESOME!
I came here after my regular Saturday routine (running, biking, PT, and massage therapy) It was a sunny day. There were a lot of customers with dogs sitting outside. When I walked into the store, I didn’t know what to order. Therefore, I told the staff that it’s my first time here. He was very friendly and immediately grabbed samples for me to try. And, he told me briefly how their store operates. In addition, they have a calendar on the counter with special flavors they have everyday. I thought it was really good.
After tasting vanilla, chocolate, pumpkin, and apple pie flavors. I decided to have pumpkin for the season and apple pie for the homemade pie crust. This may not be the best combination for others, but it was definitely HEAVEN for me. I love how cream, soft, and no-​so-​sweet they are. It was definitely the highlight of my day! :-)
Since I will be in the area more frequently than I planned for, I will definitely be here again!

Deal Alert: Peaks has an excellent Chinook Book coupon; buy one item, get a similarly priced item free! It’s a really great deal… pick what you want!
I love their compostable cups and utensils. I love that Peaks is locally owned. I love their custard… oh dear, I LOVE their custard! Average prices: large sundaes and shakes run about $ 7.
If some frozen custards are too rich for you, know that most Peaks flavors aren’t as rich as say… Old School or Ted Drewes. Which brings me to another point; they have a flavor du jour… so I think you can understand where I’m coming from when I say a special flavor like CREME BRULEE is rich. (And so very fantastic!)
Additionally, they have great cakes — chocolate, carrot and Boston Cream… they seem to focus on doing a few baked items well. They also do brownies, which are on the fudge side of the spectrum… and I love them with my custard. During October they are also carrying pumpkin cookies with dipping frosting.
I’m guessing the «doing a few things well» might carry into their sandwich selection. They look rather large and flavors include caprese or tuna salad. Suffice to say, if you need «real food», it’s available.
Nice, late hours. Drawbacks are parking (street only, very busy) and the occasional prima donna counter person.
If you’re a frozen custard person, definitely worth checking out!

I’m lactose intolerant so my dairy splurges need to be worth it. Peaks is my favorite frozen custard spot. I love vanilla with salted caramel sauce and whipped cream. Yummy!
I’ve always loved their space — good tables, chairs, and the like. They used to have a better children’s area and I wish they still did.
The one thing that keeps me from giving them 5 stars is their service — both in the store and their mobile operation during the summer fair season. I have no problem with young people working in the store. However, sometimes levels of service can be compromised. As far as the mobile operation, the waits are long, servings inconsistent, and really, they could use a total re-​vamping of how they organize their booths.

It’s hard to hate frozen custard. Especially at a place like Peaks! My brother and I popped by after planning to come here for, well… forever. And I’m sure glad we finally made it. The location reminded me of visiting a cozy little cabin. With ample room for small or large groups, it was easy to find a place to sit and eat some crazy creamy delicious treats.
Make sure to check out the flavor of the day calendar. You can see it in the store or online. As a fan of cheesecake, cherries and brownies, I was super stoked to see that a flavor combining all three ingredients was on the menu when I popped in. I can’t even begin to describe how rich and tasty it was. And it’s actually good that I don’t because anyone reading this review would be forced to drop everything and get themselves a scoop. Or three!
Forget about counting calories here, treat yourself once in a while. I promise it’ll be totally worth it.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. The frozen custard is AMAZING!!! They have a different flavor everyday so it never gets boring. Birthday Cake flavor is my favorite. I check their menu every month and mark my calendar for it… its THAT good.
Staff is very friendly. They always offer samples when I come in so you get to try before you buy anything.
Store is super cute. They have free wifi so you can sit and relax, jump on your computer and enjoy your custard.
Also try the cakes. The «cake and eat it too» so worth the extra calories. The chocolate is the best!!!

I finally tried this place out as I’d driven by it numerous times since I live nearby.
We had an entertainment coupon for basically a buy one get one free.
The flavors they had were chocolate and vanilla (available everyday) and then chocolate turtle and chocolate cake. My friend and I both tasted the specials of the day.
We both got the «cake and eat it too» which was a slice of their homemade cake and a scoop of their custard plus a topping. He got boston crème pie w/​chocolate cake custard and caramel, I got the carrot cake w chocoalte cake custard and salted caramel.
The custard itself actually has the same consistency as ice ream (at least to me). It was creamy and rich.
My carrot cake was tasty and moist. The boston crème pie was good, but a bit dry.
Overall, good dessert spot, but I think next time, I may just stick to a scoop or two in a cone. I kind of wish they had more daily flavors, but they have an online calendar that tells you what flavors are being offered that day, which comes in handy.

I’ve never had frozen custard before but one bite of their frozen custard changed my life. My feeling towards ice cream has never been the same ever since. Frozen custard is softer, smoother and richer than ice cream. This is what heaven would feel and taste like in your mouth.
They only have four flavors, one changes everyday. If you are curious, they have a calendar (also online) so you can see what flavors are featured each day. They make all their frozen custards in small batches throughout the day so you are always getting the freshest.
The staff here are super friendly. Prices are super reasonable for the quality you get.
I love their vanilla (available daily) and also their strawberries and cream (flavor of the day).

Fell in love with Peaks Frozen Custard at a Bite of Seattle a couple years ago. What I learned from that experience is frozen custard is not ice cream. While it does taste rich like ice cream, frozen custard does not retain its shape for very long. It is quick to melt. Eating it in the sun only accelerates this process.
Visited their storefront for the first time recently. It is a comfortable abode in the Roosevelt District near Whole Foods. There is no on-​site parking, but there is a good amount of street parking nearby. The ones closest to the store have pay meters, but if you head further north those disappear.
The store has a decent amount of seating inside and outside. There is also free wi-​fi offered here. Password is required which is displayed at the counter.
As for the selection, I found the menu board somewhat confusing. Keeping this simple, they have a handful of flavors available daily which can be served on its own in a cone or cup or as sundaes. The old standbys (chocolate and vanilla) plus two daily flavors which you can find out about by going to the store website’s flavor forecast page.
If the flavors don’t float your boat, they have a refrigerated case of pints and quarts of different flavors available as well. For those not in the mood for frozen custard, they do also have several selections of desserts here including cheesecake, carrot cake and chocolate cake on the day that I visited. All of which were reasonably priced at around $ 3 a slice.
I tried the vanilla custard ($ 3 for a mini cup) and picked up a chocolate & almonds ($ 5 a pint) and a slice of carrot cake ($ 3) to go.
The mini size of custard seemed a bit smallish, but it was the right size for a dessert after lunch. Just like at the Bite, it totally delivered. The texture looks like frozen yogurt or soft serve ice cream, but I am loving this even more than those. I have to say the vanilla frozen custard from Peaks is one of my favorite frozen desserts in Seattle.
I was not as enamored with the chocolate & almonds pint. It was kind of one note. I did like the almonds and that it was locally sourced. I think perhaps mixing it with another flavor or pairing this with a piece of cake or pie would help. In hindsight, I should have paired it with the carrot cake which was pretty good on its own. The frosting was not overly sweet which is a plus.
If you love ice cream, I believe you will like frozen custard too. But be forewarned that this is a dessert best eaten ASAP and inside. I would not recommend getting a cone with custard and eating it in 80 degree weather unless you are okay with having sticky hands by the time you are done with it.

I wish their frozen moose tracks were a regular flavor here. It is made of vanilla custard with fudge ribbons and peanut butter cups. I savored this as much as I could… kinda hard when it’s hot outside and the custard is melting at a faster rate. Other than that, I usually stick to vanilla custard with fudge topping.
Peaks also makes frozen custard cakes. Now I gotta make hints at my friends that I want one for my birthday. ;)

Hands down one of the best desserts I’ve ever had! Sooo good! I love Molly Moon’s… but this is just the icing on the cake. It is so smooth and creamy! The guys being the counter were supper helpful as it was my first time there… but man we were not disappointed. They allowed us to try out the different flavors and made some on point recommendations.
*Must try* their Boston crème pie!!! Omg I was in heaven… This is fast becoming one of my new favorite places for desserts. The place is warm and cozy and the staff friendly.
I live all the way in Bremerton (Kitsap County) and would be willing to make a special trip into the city of some frozen custard.

With a Groupon in hand, we ordered a Little Tahoma Sundae, which is essentially like Dirt and Worms, a small cup of Balsamic Raspberry Swirl, a large hot genmaicha, and a bottle of cream soda.
The custard itself is creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious. You just want to savor each spoonful as it melts ever-​so-​slowly on your tongue.
Free wifi. Loose leaf teas. Would definitely come back again. It’s the kind of place that you’d want to spend hours studying and getting refills on tea and dessert during your breaks.
Super friendly service. They didn’t even know I had a Groupon at first and were offering samples of flavors and such.

I finally got to use my Tippr coupon for this place yesterday. 1) I figured it would be the last sunny day in Seattle for the summer, and I wanted to capitalize on the heat and 2) who really needs an excuse to have sweet treats?
This place was everything I expected it would be. Sweet, decadent, dense, and creamy deliciousness! I love experiencing things in their truest and most simple form so I opted for a scoop of vanilla custard in a waffle cone (okay, and with the addition of another scoop of the daily special — toffee coffee crunch). I’m not usually fond of vanilla, but Peaks’ is so satisfying!
The service was great too. I told the guy behind the counter that it was our first time in, so he gave us samples of the vanilla, chocolate, and the daily flavor.
I was surprised to see that they also serve sandwiches and coffee, though I didn’t try any. And they also have take-​home containers of flavors that are not available to try that day — they keep their selection limited on a day-​to-​day basis. I bought the orange dreamsicle and fudgy irish cream and I can’t wait to try them.
