Pure Barre

This review is for my 40+ year old sisters. Pure Barre University is amazing! Don’t be intimidated by photos of toned «youngsters,» this place is a welcoming and effective way to get fit and enjoy a great community into the bargain. Owner Sami sets the tone of the place — all shapes and sizes and abilities are warmly welcome. I love the mother-​daughter teams who come and the diversity.
Here’s my advice for getting started:
1) Buy the one-​month intro package and come at least 4 days a week (more is better) for that entire month. That’ll give you a good basis upon which to decide if PB is a good fit for you.
2) Relax and roll with how fast and hard it might feel at first. Just do your best and keep coming. If you stick with it the routine becomes second nature.
3) Ask questions — the teachers can show you techniques and modifications.
4) If you need to, skip the weights and double bands — you’ll still get a great workshop.
5) Drink plenty of water!
In six months of doing PB I’ve dropped weight, become toned and strong, crave healthy foods, have more energy and feel happy. Give it a try!

This (along with the GL studio) is my regular haunt for barre workouts! The studio is always spotless, I love the layout and the fact that it’s close to U Vill (Din Thai Fung anyone?) is an extra perk!
I love taking class with Sami 5:30 Thursdays followed by a 6am on Friday here. Double whammy heading into the weekend!
Amy L, Fawn, and Kristen are other favorites.
Love barre workouts because it builds long, lean muscles. It doesn’t hammer your body the same way crossfit does, and it’s still a killer fast paced workout! Usually I plateau after 8 – 10 months after doing the same workouts but not here, the more you do it the more difficult it gets! I’m a huge fan!

I have attended different fitness gyms over the years, the last being 24 Hour Fitness on Aurora Ave. But now Pure Barre Fitness in the University District is my current gym of choice. My busy schedule only allows me to go to gym once or twice per week, but I’m definitely wanting to make more time for this fitness club. Why? Because the staff at Pure Barre Fitness is especially friendly and helpful and I really appreciate the clean facility that they keep. I find that the biggest attraction at Pure Barre is the healthful fitness classes that they offer. they are much more enjoyable and effective than the larger groups in 24 Hour Fitness.
I recommend that if you looking for a good fitness club, you’ll be good to yourself by going to one of the best, Pure Barre Fitness.

I am addicted to Pure Barre! I have been a client for 3 years now and it is the best work out. I have done yoga, kick boxing, boot camp, running… you name it and I have done it but nothing gets you feeling as good as Pure Barre does. At some point I have always strayed from other types of exercise but never with PB. It is now part of who I am!
One thing that I love about Pure Barre is that the classes are filled with all types of ages, body types and skill levels. The instructors are welcoming from day one and give helpful and constructive feedback but are not pushy. They are all very positive, friendly and knowledgeable.
Most importantly it was the best pregnancy work out! I took at least two classes a week up to 38 weeks. It made me feel so great! And it certainly helped me to get back to my pre-​baby self although that is still a work in progress!
I have taken classes at all but one of the studios, University, Green Lake, Bellevue and Queen Anne. The studios are well kept, clean and are in convenient locations. Finding a class to take around the city is not hard! So you have no excuses!
Try it! You will love it! It is a full body, mind, spirit and attitude work out that makes every part of you feel amazing! Enjoy!

This is one of the best workout regiments I have ever encountered.
While targeting and toning problem areas with precise isometric movements and pulses as well as the patented «tuck» — this routine will have you burning that kind of «crave some more» burn in your muscles to blast fat and incinerate calories.
I’m hooked.

I swear, after one class you’re gonna go home, take a look in the mirror, and be like, damn, did my ass always look this good?! Then, after a couple days of not going, you will honestly wonder what you’re doing with your life. And then you’ll go to your next Pure Barre class and know that you’re life (and ass) is back on track. It’s that good!
The classes are kind of like a yoga class in that the instructor says everything you should do, and then you make adjustments. The teachers really know what they are doing and are super attentive. These classes are well worth the time and money!

As a former dancer, I’ve tried almost all of the fitness fads out there and Pure Barre has been the one I’ve stuck with after two years now. The results are undeniable and the positivity within the studio is infectious. Many people are frustrated when they first start out if they haven’t tried pliates or other barre classes, BUT I encourage you to stick with it… At least for three classes. Nothing else has tightened and toned my body quite like Pure Barre. However, if you are looking to seriously shed some pounds, you will have to make diet changes as well.
I did Dailey Method for a while before going to Pure Barre, and have also taken a few Bar Method classes. Everybody has their own opinion, but I personally think Pure Barre is the best out there. The music is upbeat, the exercises are challenging and they keep the class moving so that it doesn’t ever feel like it’s dragging on. And most importantly… I shake the most. If you are truly dedicated to changing your health and fitness lifestyle, I strongly encourage you to take a Pure Barre class! All the teachers are excellent, but my favorites are Sami (the owner), Dana, Amy L, and Ashley.

I am still pretty embarrassed when I tell people about my love of Pure Barre (especially other athletes). However, I cannot deny my love and I can’t help but tell everyone about PB!
I first got into PB in North Carolina as a way to avoid the summer heat but still maintain my level of fitness. I tend to run a fair amount but I suffer in hot weather. Although running keeps me in good cardiovascular shape, I’ve never seen any changes in my body. I tend to maintain a lower weight when I’m not running. I love PB because I’ve seen significant changes in my body and I’ve gotten much stronger. Furthermore, all the core, arm work and hip stretching has helped my running.
I really like the U Village studio. I feel like both the clientele and the teachers are a lot more down to earth and friendly than at my studio in NC. I find the teachers truly motivating and they all seem very genuine.

I am not big into working out. In all honesty I like to do the bare minimum that I need to do to feel good. I usually get bored at the gym. I prefer playing competitive sports. I think running sucks. I’m in LOVE with Pure Barre. In LOVE.
Pure Barre is a 1hr full body work out. You will use muscles that you didn’t know you had. You will challenge yourself. You will want to come back, so that you can one day do the splits and lift your legs with your abs. The whole time really fun dance music is playing. The teachers are so nice and helpful and provide guidance the whole time. They will push you and help you do your best.
After class you will go buy some Lululemons because its a fashion show in there. At night you will sleep like a baby and the next day you will be so sore, but its worth the toned, slender, feminine, strong body that you will get. Go try it out!

I am not a fan of the gym. Mainly because no matter how often I go, I never really see much results.
I tried out Pure Barre after seeing that they had a deal on Livingsocial, and I was really excited to try it out. I saw results after just one class! I was really happy to feel that my abs and obliques were tighter just after 1 hour of intense workout. I was a bit out of shape when I first started, and I can definitely say that it burned so good.
The instructors are really friendly and helpful. When it’s a smaller class, they can give you extra attention and correct your form while you’re doing the exercises. Depending on how hard you push yourself, you can still get a decent workout without sweating too much. They do a very similar routine for each class that works out your arms, legs, thighs and core. A lot of it consists of small movements and «tucking» (pushing your tailbone in while keeping your hips still).
They play really good beats that go along with the exercises!
Most of the ladies who go here tend to wear a certain attire of leggings and Pure Barre’s signature «sticky» socks, which are actually quite helpful to keep your feet from sliding on the carpet… but regular thin socks should be fine too.
Classes here are super expensive. I was lucky to snag a deal where they offered a 10 class punch card for $ 120 (reg. price $ 200). Sign up for the email list for special offers! Although coming here as a regular might break my bank, I sure will look damn good doing it.

I have been to Pure Barre on a regularly basis and absolutely love it. You don’t have to sweat here if you don’t want to. In order to get results here, it depends on how hard you work during the classes. I have had sessions where I didn’t feel like working hard and I didn’t sweat at all during the routines. However, if you work hard during the class, you will sweat. It is also about small movements throughout the class. Most of the time, only yourself can feel (and not see) the movements and routines in your muscles.
Classes are normally from 55 to 65 minutes, depends on your instructor.
Returning client pays from $ 140 — $ 225 for monthly unlimited classes.

I’m a 27 year old reasonably non-​athletic female who hadn’t set foot in a gym for a year + prior to beginning Pure Barre. I started taking classes exactly 3 months before my wedding day in August this summer, feeling semi-​anxious about my residual lack of tone and «glow» after a long Seattle winter and very determined to look my best as a bride. At the recommendation of the owner, Sami, I started with the new client special followed by the bride-​to-​be promotion, which ended up being a really great combo deal for an entire summer of unlimited classes.
I was seeing differences in my body by 5 classes and starting to feel like I was really getting the hang of the form and maximizing the effects of the workout (tuck your hips and reduce the size of your movements!) by 10 classes. By a month in (averaging about 4 classes a week) I’d already lost several pounds and by 2 months people were starting to comment on my new shapely arms. My «seat,» thighs and waistline hadn’t looked so good since my teenage years! By my wedding day, my tailor had taken in several inches from my wedding dress and I was feeling completely fabulous and confident and so happy and so grateful I’d committed to Pure Barre for the summer!
I should mention that I did pair a lot of this with a more careful eating plan (nothing extreme). But I literally did NO other form of exercise the entire summer… so PB really does get most of the credit. Best instructor goes to Sami, who is clearly way more experienced than all of the other staff, but props to Dana’s bubbly energy level and Frances’ attention to ensuring you have the proper form (she’s a great instructor to start with while you’re still learning).
Drawbacks are that there is a bit of a pretentious vibe and this sort of weird competitive undertone happening with some of the women in the room. Not to mention the unspoken expectation that you come clad in a super-​cute Lululemon ensemble including special Pure Barre brand grip socks (you can always tell the new students in the room by their unassuming gym shorts/​tee-​shirts/​bare feet). Also, lots of the desirable time slots fill up quickly so you have to plan pretty far ahead with the online booking system. But all in all a GREAT way to get back in shape and feel pretty awesome.

Be prepared to work on muscles you didn’t even think you had. This is a fast paced, high energy workout. You will definitely be exhausted and sore by the end of it and still feeling it the next day. But in a good way.
I had a great time and kept up for most of it even though it was my first time. A lot of the moves look easy but they are NOT. Here they provide you with all the equipment you need which includes the mat, weights and bands. Just wear what you would normally wear to a yoga class, but bring some thin socks to wear.
I would have given 5 stars, but I feel like they could do a little more coaching or instruction, but it was very minimal adjustment and not much in the way of instruction. To be fair, I suppose it is hard when the music is jamming and you have to keep the energy up for everyone. If you get lost, just keep going. You will catch on after a few times.

I used to think I was in shape — shoot, I work out 4 – 5 times a week but taking this class reminded me of how much I needed to full body workout. The instructors here are amazing — my personal favorite is Britt, but you really can’t go wrong with any of these great ladies.
Someone told me to avoid classes here unless you’re in shape and have awesome workout clothes. While there’s some truth to those comments I’d hate to have someone turn away from an AMAZING workout just because you don’t think your pants look lululemon enough…
There’s no judgement in the class and that’s probably what I like best about it, everyone is so focused on working themselves out that no one cares if you’ve walked into the corner and decided to lay down because your body is exhausted… true story folks.
Now if only I could afford to be a regular member here, back to the regular old gym for me.

The ladies teaching the class are spectacular, stunning, and sweetie. Sammi goes above and beyond getting to know her clients and I feel like I’m going to hang out with friends instead of getting a kick butt workout. I tend to frequent the Bellevue location considering I live on the Eastside but every once in a while I get the opportunity to visit this studio. The classes are far more occupied than the Eastside but you still get the same great attentiveness from each instructor.
As for the work out… Amazing. I signed up for the one month for $ 99. Going five days a week my body changed drastically. Everything just tightened. I had amazing arms, a killer bum, slim thighs, and sculpted abs. They really focus on a womans «problem areas». The routine changes constantly and I’m never bored. You’re given the option to push yourself as hard as you’d like. I feel like it’s personal training with the added competitive benefit of having other people going through the same challenges. I always benefit from the «If that girl can do this then I know I can!» attitude! I’ve taken a break the last few months but I’m making the year commitment this Saturday. I have a big New Years event coming up and I know Pure Barre will whip me into the shape I need to get into that sexy black dress!

The studio was a little tricky to find at first. I parked in the garage, took the elevator up to the main floor and made a couple turns down the hallway to get to the studio. (this was the back entrance.)
There is a cubby as soon as you walk in where you can put your shoes and belongings. Before you go to the floor, you need take weights (2, 3, or 5lbs), a ball, and a resistance band.
I wasn’t sure which weight to take with me, but 3lb was plenty hard! We did a lot of pulsing and small circles for our arms, which was killer! We used the ball to consistently work our inner thighs (squeezing and then pulsing the legs).
The class was hard (in a good way) and made me sweat, which I wasn’t expecting. I thought it would be a low-​key ballet class, but I was wrong. I left feeling good, and the next day I definitely felt the soreness all over my legs.
If you take classes from here, there’s no doubt you will see results!

I’ve been going to Pure Barre for a couple of months and am addicted. I’ve seen great results and the teachers are energetic and fun.
I have a dance and yoga background, so I found it easier to pick it up. If you haven’t had that experience, it may take a little longer and be more frustrating. Regardless of your experience, be prepared for intense burning as you work your muscles to fatigue. The small movements are deceptive! Each class is very similar to the next, down to the warm-​ups and stretching.
As far as exercise classes go, it’s on the pricier side. Do look out for promotions that they offer. For Christmas, they are offering a 3 class card for $ 25, which is a great deal.
Another plus is the convenient schedule, which offers morning, afternoon, and evening classes in both the U Village and Bellevue every day.

Pure Barre is my absolute favorite workout that I’ve ever tried… and I’ve tried DOZENS. The teachers are fabulous and it is truly suitable for all ages, shapes, sizes, and fitness abilities. The music is engaging and the hour class goes by super fast– I’m TOTALLY hooked.
I know many women in my classes who don’t have a fitness background and they have seen amazing results. I am a fit person, but Pure Barre is leaning out my muscles and toning my body in a way that I have not been able to achieve in my years of working out. It is such a treat to exercise in such a supportive, comfortable environment with women who are kind and encouraging to all. New clients get the first class for free so you definitely should give Pure Barre a try!
