Skeeter’s Auto Rebuild

Late model minivan. The sliding door came off the tracks. I took it to Skeeter’s for an estimate. While I waited in Skeeter’s office, away from the rain and cold, Skeeter reattached the door and realigned the rollers. He refused payment.
What a great experience!

I’ve taken my car to Skeeter’s twice. The first time was when it was only a few months old and I was rear-​ended at a stoplight. Skeeter put it back in brand new condition and also dealt with the other driver’s insurance company for payment, making an enraging situation as painless as possible.
MANY years later, this same car is parked in front of my house, when my neighbor knocks on my door to tell me that someone just crashed into it. I go out and there’s the proverbial little old lady who only drives to the market on Saturdays standing next to the big dent in my bumper, askew blinker light, and side mirror lying on the ground. The door and fender weren’t horrifying, but the paint had taken a beating. Because she was afraid of losing her insurance and her license (which she likely would; looking at her license, I saw that she’s 90 years old), she said she wanted to just pay for the damage herself. It’s my experience with old people that they don’t know what things cost, so I could see this ending badly for her. At any rate, I took my car into Skeeter’s and he gave me two estimates, one for $ 1800 to put it back the way it was, and one for $ 600 to make it safe to drive and to look better than it did, but still with some visible damage. Since my car is fairly old itself and not worth much anymore, I really couldn’t see asking wizened ancient lady for $ 1800. I opted for the less expensive repair and I’m happy with the results; the remaining visible damage is minor. They also washed the car and cleaned the interior, which was above and beyond as I don’t think I’ve vacuumed it myself since maybe 2012.
Skeeter is a nice guy and easy to work with, and he didn’t try to talk me into the more expensive repair. The only negative thing I can say is that if Skeeter isn’t at the shop, there’s no one else who can give you an estimate or take the payment for completed work. So you need to call to make sure he’s there, but if he’s not, no one else will answer the phone to tell you when he’ll be back. I had to go in a couple of times before he was there to give me an estimate, and it wasn’t a big deal, but I can see where someone who doesn’t know they do really good work here might give up and go somewhere else.

Skeeter did great work on my car this week (minor scratches, dents, tail light replacement), and also kept me in the loop on timeline during the week. Wonderful customer service and my car looks good as new — I’d highly recommend Skeeter’s for anyone needing collision work in South Seattle.

I decided to sell my Volvo and needed to get it cleaned up. Three door dings, a broken side mirror and a scratched bumper.
A place in downtown Seattle quoted me $ 1,200, so I looked for a better deal elsewhere. This can usually be found outside of Seattle, and I was 100% correct in this case.
Skeeter quoted me about $ 500 for the same work.
The dings were removed flawlessly and a new bumper piece installed. They were able to fix the mirror without replacing it, as the other company had offered.
If you’re looking for a fair deal and don’t need a posh waiting room, Skeeter’s may be the place for you.

Skeeter took great care of me when I had a HUGE door ding — must have pissed someone off, it wasn’t like one of those, «oops, I bumped your car and dinged you…» It was a monster of a ding like someone kicked their door open as hard as they could…
Anyway… I brought my car to Skeeter and he took it in on Thursday and it was done on Monday… it looked great and I couldn’t be happier.
Skeeter is a really nice guy and was very helpful and communicative!

Skeeter and company did a great job fixing my car. Skeeter has a great personality, seems to know his stuff, and did a good job explaining what was going on. The shop has a small (personalized) but efficient feel. Skeeter worked with the insurance company of the driver who damaged my car to get my rear bumper replaced. The price seemed reasonable to me and was certainly the same or better than the shop the insurance company wanted me to go to (but without the sleazy salespeople). The shop also installed my trailer hitch for me for minimal extra cost.
I had no doubts they’d do a good job. But the spotless cleaning of the exterior and interior of my car was over the top, earning my five stars.

I call Skeeter quite often. He is usually very polite and always helpful but this one takes the cake. I ordered a part for my engine (upper engine stabilizer mount) that would be pretty easy to install had it not been for the torrential rain (I don’t have a garage). I called Skeeter on a longshot to see if he or anyone there could unscrew a few bolts, remove the old part and install the new one for me. I’m not sure what I expected but his response was, «Sure, bring it by, I’m out to lunch but one of my guys will do it for you.» Shocked, I drove down and as soon as I spoke to one of the mechanics, another one had already pulled my car in and started the install. While I was expecting a bill, the guy finished, handed me my keys and said, «There you go!» Of course, I handed the guy a generous tip but this is indicative of the service you can expect to receive at Skeeters. Best mechanic in town, bar none.

Love Skeeters and have used him for years. It’s an old school auto body shop and if you’re used to the new «slicky» type of places this may not be for you. He’s been honest, reliable (especially with my business vehicles where time is critical) and his work has always been very good. The custom work on my PT Cruiser is excellent and I’m awaiting my custom paint job…

My car was fixed here after it was stolen and stripped. I was pretty impressed by them at first, since they came highly recommended from another shop which was highly recommended but couldn’t get me in anytime soon. They picked up my car from the impound lot the same day that I called them, so I was ready to be dazzled.
Ummmm, yeah. I would have been impressed if the service continued in this manner. The biggest problem with Skeeter’s is a complete lack of communication, not just between them and the customer, but between Skeeter himself and his workers.
Skeeter repeatedly told me that my car would be ready, then when I’d call to see if I could pick it up, he’d say it wasn’t ready. Finally when it was «done» Skeeter told me he was leaving town, but his workers would be there still so they’d give me the keys and take my check. Showed up an hour before they were to close, and surprise surprise, the place is closed. This was a Friday, which means I didn’t have my car all weekend. I showed up first thing Monday morning before class, and was told my car still wasn’t ready, and they didn’t know why I was told it was (Skeeter was nowhere to be seen). I had to get a ride to class and come back later… lucky for them I was able to even find a ride. They apologized about not being there Friday and said that they close early sometimes if they are slow. My first thought was that they weren’t THAT slow if my car still needed a bunch of work done on it…
Even when I came back later, it wasn’t totally done, it was missing a front blinker cover and I was going to have to come back yet again. I took the car though, I was sick of their crap. They also failed to replace the ashtray, which was stolen. I had to hound them to order it. And they actually took my cigarette lighter out of the plug in and then lost it. The stereo they installed is the worst piece of crap I’ve ever heard, it was installed crooked and the trim piece falls off every time you change the radio station (which barely come in anyways). They also peeled some of the side stripes of my car and then left them peeling up which I had to super glue down. I asked them to do it, and they just looked at me like I was the bain of their existence.
I will NOT go back and I may call the other shop and tell them to think twice about recommending them to anyone else.
