Smiles On Madison

I had a filling done here and although the doctor did the drilling, the filling was done by an assistant and she was absolutely terrible. She was rough and I left with an ache jaw that she claimed was «normal». I foolishly believed her and left, only to come back a week later after suffering from pounding headaches and a limited ability to chew on foods. Furthermore, I noticed that my tooth felt abnormally small because she had drilled additionally to get the filling right. Does that even make sense?
I went back in with complaints and they refused to take responsibility. Instead they blamed it on my teeth grinding (which I’ve done since childhood without jaw issues) and then suggested I take muscle relaxants. No thanks.
Anyway, I’m never going back to Smiles on Madison.

not sure what happened but this place no longer is what it was. i have called them 4 – 5 times and noone ever answers the phone. also they are never retunr your call. the office girls are now horrible. time to change dentist

I’ve gone here four times so far and received four fillings and a cleaning. Everyone is very nice and professional. I felt I was in good hands. No complaints!

I hate going to the dentist. It is always very difficult to get myself to go and can often cause anxiety attacks for me. But unfortunately, it’s something that has to be done. After a lot of bad experiences with impatient, unkind and downright rude dentists, I found Dr. Sonya Hamberg here at Smiles on Madison. The whole team there– from the front desk to the hygienists to the assistants– are all very helpful and nice. It is very clean and state of the art, which is awesome! Dr. Hamberg was especially welcoming and kind. She didn’t make me feel like a bad person for not having gone to a dentist for a while. She was completely warm with a lovely sense of humor and an ability to put me at ease. She is incredibly knowledgeable and alludes a confidence that lets you know she knows what she’s doing. She tells you exactly what she’s going to do before she does it, which is so helpful to me. She is consistently checking on you while she’s working in your mouth and in a way where you feel you can actually tell her the truth. Her patience and kindness when I had to get a rather difficult procedure was the only reason I didn’t have a complete freak out in the dentist chair. I appreciate her and her team so very much and I will always recommend her to any and all of my acquaintances or anyone who might be looking for a dentist.

Please note this review is for the OFFICE STAFF (mostly). I had an appointment scheduled for today at 3:30. It’s great they do Sat appointments. However, I was told when I scheduled this that I could pay $ 350 up front (I have the paper w/​my signature on it!) for my crown then pay off in installments. I called this morning to see if I could POSSIBLY reschedule as I have more flexibility with work this week. The woman JANNA was incredibly rude to me. She first said, oh, I was going to call to let you know you have to pay the ENTIRE thing upfront and we don’t do payments arrangements (doubt she was going to call; I called around 1PM to ask about reschedule then she brought that up and my appointment was for 3:30). I was shocked, confused and wondering how I was going to pay ALL of that up front. So I sad, «I have no idea how I’m going to pay this, I can’t pay all that!» I was basically thinking out loud. Sure, I COULD pay 726, but it was put a strain on me. So I was just asking questions and sounded annoyed by this surprise. She kept saying, speak to my manager on Monday.
That’s fine. She gave me incorrect information 2 weeks ago and bothered to tell me this TODAY when I CALLED NOT HER! She also sent an email on Friday to confirm my appoint. but never mentioned the change in procedures with billing. So clearly she messed that up. She then said, I’m not talking to you anymore about this in a rude tone (sure I sounded rude and annoyed, who wouldn’t?! but I never was screaming or cursing at her). So she hung on me rudely. I went there in person to mention, I’ll keep my appoint as I live not even 3 blocks away. She told me to get out of the office and cancelled my appointment because she could not deal with me. Again, yes I sounded annoyed on the phone and asked questions as to why this was never told to me. She kept saying, I’m not going to argue with you, you called to cancel your appointment, leave the office, you are not allowed to be seen today. I guess I made a mistake by calling to see IF I could reschedule for next week?
So yes, Dr. Hamburg is a really sweet and a very proficient dentist also, her hygienists were great as well. I wish there was a way to talk with her personally to let her know why she’s losing my business. I need a lot of work done but cannot deal the lack of professionalism at the front. Also, when I came in about 2 weeks ago for a comprehensive exam, they missed most of the wisdom tooth and then I was told I had to pay an additional 50 b/​c they missed (should’ve been included in the exam). Yes, I was asking a lot of questions that day, who wouldn’t when you need A LOT of things done and lack funds and time. I was stressed and VERY overwhelmed. I was annoyed by them not taking care of it when I was in there but they made it seem it was my fault for asking too many questions so that’s why they missed that tooth. Ugh! Why blame me for this?!
I’m going to call Monday to speak with the supervisor Lindsey, who is alright but not sure she/​they will resolve the issues with Janna.
I already contacted another dentist in the Capitol Hill area and the receptionist was super friendly and promising! Someone else had mentioned they had issues with Janna but I blew it off b/​c my experiences here were so great 2 years ago with the old receptionist.

Lindsey the office manager listend to my situation but did absolutely NOTHING to fix it and suggested I go to another dentist «so I am more comfortable» rather than dealing with her employee and asuring me it wont happen again. Good thing I found 8 to 8 dental. They are all so nice and very accommodating there. Also, I found out DR. HAMBURG TOLD ME I NEEDED MULTIPLE FILLINGS (5 or 6) WHEN I ACTUALLY ONLY NEED 2.
A crown with Smiles off Madison was going to cost me 200+ more than 8 to 8. I cant can’t beleive I trusted this place.
WARNING: DO NOT GO HERE. They are more interested in taking your money rather than honesty and patient care. Seriously, 8 to 8 dental saved me!!!

I’ve had a good experience. Everyone has a great attitude and office is well run. Dental procedures have gone well.

They billed my insurance for a full set of x rays that they did NOT do then they told me I had seven cavities. Upon second opinion I have NO cavities. They are frauds, do not use this dentist office.

The office staff is very friendly, the décor is modern and aesthetically pleasing, they play great music, and my radiologist shared similar opinions about Star Trek: D I’ve been to a lot of different dentists over the years, and this place impressed me.

Super friendly, cheery and professional staff. I just moved from NYC and my first cleaning was painless, well done, thorough and the dentist spent REAL time talking with me to get my history and speak sincerely to a few key points in my history that affect dental health. Really love this place, insurance set up was a breeze and they were super fast with giving me an email to seamlessly get my old xrays sent over and therefore willing to wait for my old office to catch up.

The dental office itself is decent. I am rating this office 1 star because I was charged $ 100 extra dollars for rescheduling my appointment due to personal matters. There was no flexibility in adjusting my appointment time and the front office did not inform me of the rescheduling fee.

This is the best dentist I have ever been to! I even moved to Puyallup and I still go there. I see Dr. Hamberg and she is hilarious and does a great job. I saw Dr. Wong once and he was super nice as well. Lindsay the receptionist is amazing as well!

A Dentist’s Office is the last place in the icy Pacific North West that I expected to leave with a smile on my face. I chose this office originally because it was close to my house and took my insurance. But I couldn’t have hit better luck.
I came here after an almost 10 year hiatus from professional dental care. Whoops. The care was professional, the tone was educational, yet lighthearted, and the people are just plain nice. I think they must all secretly be from the South, like me.
Even if you’re the super-​surly PNW type, this place still does a great job, has a very nice space, and is surprisingly affordable, given. But for me it’s about the people, and I’m pretty sure, if my teeth were a bit more wack, I’d just lounge in the lobby all day long and hang out with these cool cats.
P. S. For those of you that don’t understand how insurance works, consider postponing your reviews until after you’ve educated yourselves. Hugs!

Not a fan of going to the dentist, and finding a new one in a new city is hard. Had my first appointment here and I was happy with the experience. They were on time, and they did a really good cleaning. The x-​rays were pretty painless. I had a cavity, and they were able to get me in the same day to get it filled, which was really nice. I think they did a good job on the filling. The people were friendly. I would recommend!

I am incredibly happy with the care I have received at this office. Dr. Hamberg has a great sense if humor and always it in great spirits and upbeat. The same can be said for all of their staff, especially Amy. I actually look forward to going to the dentist.
Smiles on Madison has always been very accommodating to my schedule. It’s easy to get early morning appointments that work with my work schedule. Also, they are open 6 days a week.
Their service is great. I always get a call after an appointment to check in to see if I am happy with my filling or other dental work.
I highly recommend!

I have to say that this has been my best experience at the dentist ever! Everyone here is super nice, upbeat, knowledgeable and just gave me an all out amazing experience! During my cleaning, I actually had FUN… AT THE DENTIST!
Dr. Hamberg extracted my wisdom teeth that I had been avoiding getting taken out for quite sometime. I was awake for the whole procedure and she was just fantastic. Always making sure I was okay, took her time, let me know what was going on, what she was doing when she was doing it. I had a great recovery and someone called to check up on me the next day.
The front desk girls are on their stuff! They are good at explaining insurance information in lament terms so it’s easy for you to understand. Always smiling, always friendly!
I would definitely recommend anyone to go to Smiles on Madison. I usually have issues wanting to attend the dentist because it’s usually such a dreadful experience, I now have a place where I can go and have my dental needs met with great people and energy while doing it.

I used to love going to the dentist… before I became an adult and no longer had the awesome experience of getting a sticker from the treasure box at the the end of each appointment. I dreaded it to the point I have waited until I have to go to an emergency dental place on the weekend and pay twice more than I should! Needless to say, I have had a slew of horrible experiences in Seattle, but this was far from it.
I called, reluctantly, after several weeks of pain in my tooth and was greeted kindly by Lindsay, who works at the front desk (and is the insurance/​billing guru). She was incredibly sweet and understanding of my situation of needing both an ongoing dentist and an emergency check. She checked my insurance and within an hour, she called to tell me that there would be no charge for the initial visit and that I was in-​network. I appreciated knowing beforehand, even though I knew I would be in for a root canal, eventually, and was willing to pay whatever it took to get a good dentist.
I saw Dr. Tseng at my first (and subsequent appointments) and she is fantastic. I have some serious anxiety about going to the dentist since becoming an adult and she was incredibly thorough in explaining everything to me, both before and during. My intial assessment wasn’t too overwhelming (because they didn’t lay it all on me or make it sound like I was doomed to have thousands of dollars of dental bills in the upcoming year) and they were able to let me know what should be done immediately to maximize my future dental health. I also was able to have a quick impromptu consult from their orthodontist regarding getting a retainer.
At my first root canal appointment, it became painful and I had tears in my eyes at one point and they stopped immediately and told me I could come back. This was appreciated because I hate being an inconvenience. All around, they were understanding and kind. They even called to check up on me the next day.
They also did a great job with explaining the treatment plan and prioritizing what needed to be done soon and what could wait. They were even open to me getting something done sooner in order to make it easier to floss and not be uncomfortable! Lindsay also was great at figuring out how to best maximize my mediocre dental benefit for the year to minimize my out of pocket expenses.
A few other awesome things I love about this place: they genuinely seem to like each other, Dr. Tseng goes abroad to help others in need of dental care, Lindsay is funny and friendly at the same time and is great at remembering faces, the music is pretty great to listen to most days, they are affordable and honest, the hygienists seem to know what they are doing and have great rapport with the dentists, and I don’t dread going to the dentist anymore.

Do not go see Dr. Hamberg. Female dentist. She did a bad cavity filling. She wanted to take out my silver filling. So I went from nothing wrong to I am in a lot of pain. And now I have to get a root canal from a different dentist. Go see an experience dentist. And when your dentist retires, find another experience one.

At Smiles on Madison Lyndsy greets you (by name) when you arrive and will even remember information you’ve shared at your next visit. Amy the hygienist is fantastic and knowledgeable. Dr. Hamberg is sensitive to your needs, constantly checking in and when delivering «tough» news will make sure you understand all you need to know about how to get your mouth in a healthy state.
I am very sensitive about my smile — many of my patients are edentulous and I am terrified of finding out that I may have to loose a tooth or have wildly extensive procedures — so, I don’t go so I don’t have to hear it! Unfortunately, I have had to have some work done and have gone to places because they offered cable television in the chair, fancy headphone/​glasses combinations and a variety of teas and waters in the reception. The work did not match the «atmosphere» they were trying to create, the prices were higher than I felt necessary and occasionally the receptionist remembered my name.
Smiles is a clean, thorough, friendly and conveniently located dentist on the Hill.

I love my dentist (!).
She treats me with respect while maintaining a comfortable level of silliness sans nitrous. The folks here are friendly and remember your face, and they have senses of humors! You come in and walk out with a smile.
I was sad because I had my first cavity at 25. To avoid scary trips to The Dentist I’ve taken especially good care of my teeth, but I suppose it eventually happens. None of the nightmarish images I had were reality. It was all v.v. chill in their space age bachelor pad dental office– except rather than listening to Esquivel we enjoyed a lovely mix of African tribal music and indie. Since then, I’ve had no problems and am not even stressed about going in for a cleaning/​check-​up in June.
All in all:

perfect environment (trendy and none of that unnerving bright-​white hospital feel)
