Sound View Window & Door

I had a mixed experience. Some people that work there are great, helpful, and organized, but others are very much the opposite. Their quote was very competitive. The install was frustrating. They seemed to only partially know what they were doing and didn’t come close to finishing a job that should have taken one day. They sent out someone new the second day and he did a great job. Also, it turns out window replacement is very easy. I recommend looking it up on the internet and doing it yourself. You can’t be much worse than the first two guys they sent. I am happy with the final product though.

One of the more frustrating experiences of my life. I am not sure if installing windows is just a really hard job or if Sound View needs new installers. The caulking is still not right and looks like someone applied it using their elbows.

Great company to do work with if you like mediocre results at full price. If you have others install your windows or you can do it yourself, maybe they are OK. If you need to rely on them for installation– get ready for a horrendously frustrating experience where you can watch them make the same mistakes on multiple attempts and eventually just give up.
There really is no other explanation I can come to other than their installers just don’t care. After no less than 7 – 8 attempts and multiple different installers stopping by (unannounced usually which is super convenient) to take their crack at the EXACT SAME WORK… it’s still not right. 3 – 4 months past when the works was supposed to be done.
I could go on and on and explain everything that went wrong. I’m too exhausted and wished I had just hired a contractor to do the work correctly and professionally.
I don’t know, maybe they should just change their name to Sound View Doors? Nevermind, they screwed that little side job up for us a couple times too.

I dropped by Sound View on a Friday afternoon to talk with their staff about a project in our home (replacing a sliding glass door). Dan, the staff I spoke with, started a file on my project, took a few notes and when another customer came in, asked if he could email me an estimate.
This is a pretty simple project so I expected he’d be able to turn around the email in a day or two. When Tuesday arrived and no email from Dan, I dropped him a note. Back came a reply letting me know that I needed to give him more details before he could give me an estimate. (Perhaps he should have spent just a wee bit more time with me when I came in to get all of the information he needed rather than just jump from me to another customer when they walked through the door. Or even email me with his request rather than wait for me to contact him.)
I shot back a reply, included a picture of the existing door and some measurements and told him that if he was too busy with other work to just let me know and I’d pursue other dealers. Three days later and no response.
What I’ve learned over the years is that you’re most likely to see a company’s best behavior when they are trying to get your business. If they do a lousy job responding to your initial questions, if their follow up is shaky, they’re probably going to do a lousy job with your project.
From the other Unilocal reviews, it looks like Sound View has some staff who would do well to get some basic customer service training. It isn’t rocket science: just treat customers the way you’d like to be treated and you’ll do fine.

Rather rude… Called to ask about a quote for an exceptionally large project and was rudely interrupted to be told I needed to wait while the person who answered the phone switch phones? Please next time wait for me to even finish saying «Hi I’m calling for a quote» before rudely cutting me off. Customer Service and being polite: It’s a little thing but it goes a long way.

They seemed nice, came out to look at our space. The salesperson spent a lot of time asking questions and really trying to get it right. When they sent the estimate I was surprised at how high it was. It had been a while since we’d gotten windows, but these were twice the price of the last ones we’d gotten.
So I responded to their email, saying I was surprised at how high the cost of the materials was and asking if that was the best they could do. I never heard back.
We followed up with another email about a week later, asking if they had a response — I never heard back.
I’m pretty sure we dodged a bullet with these guys. If they would have just responded with «Yes, materials are really expensive right now, we can’t go any lower» we would have gone ahead and hired them for the work. But a complete lack of response? It scares me to think what might have happened if we’d hired them and something went wrong!
We ended up going with another local firm and have been quite pleased with them.

Windows are great and seemed inexpensive especially since I installed them myself. The custom sized windows were built ahead of schedule and they were understanding when I couldn’t pick up my windows for a few months.
No complaints at all and I would definitely shop here again.
Especially handy is that there is a u-​haul location directly across the street, so if you happen to buy giant windows (my windows were 7ft long), you can rent a trunk very easily.

Obviously, Sound View Window & Door only wants Unilocal readers to read the good reviews about their company and not the bad, based on their reply. Further, they seem to resort to name calling and mudslinging just to discredit a client who has spent a lot of money at their company (and has put up with a lot of grief).
This clearly shows their true nature and I would caution anyone out there who is thinking of using Sound View Window & Door.
I stand by my original comments. With so many very good window and door companies in and around Seattle, why settle for substandard service? Why put up with stuff like this when all you want to do is inform?

I had Sound View come out a few times to do work for us. The first time was great. They had a guy there whose name I can’t remember but he was fantastic and everything was flawless. He replaced about 8 single pane windows with new ones. We hired them again to replace our doors. The guy that came out previously had left the company and they sent a guy, Dan. This experience has been one disaster after another. One door had a visible gap so you could feel the wind blowing through the seam. The other one they didn’t cut right so there was a 3 in hole between the top of the door and the wall. Did they think just because it was the top of the door and you couldn’t see it that it didn’t matter? They came back and fixed both and ended up having to replace one of the doors but now the front door hardware is loose and the door handle pops in and out. I need to get it repaired but not going to trust them to come back out and do it. I will not use them again.
**update: Upon seeing this review on Unilocal,Sound View offered to fix the hardware issues. I had another contractor fix it and they reimbursed me. The doors are now working well.

My experience with Sound View was great from start to finish! They responded very quickly to my request to an estimate and had Randy out to my house within days. The estimate was clear and detailed. All of questions were answered thoroughly and I never felt any pressure, which I really appreciated because such a large project can be intimidating! The project went smoothly and the installers were polite, courteous, and most importantly clean. After the project was done, Sound View followed up twice to make sure that I was happy with the install and my new windows. I highly recommend them for any window or door install!

I had Sound View replace my bathroom window 2 ½ years ago. They did a GREAT job. It’s a hard window since it’s in the shower, and they did great installation with a competative price for the window.
I now need 2 windows repaced in the basement. They’ve changed their policy and have a $ 1400 service charge minimum, not including the cost of product. Their rationale is that this is the cost for 2 people all day, and that at any less, they lose money. My project doesn’t require 2 people all day. And my first job was completed as their schedule allowed, between other jobs, with one installer in under 3 hours.
So I’m very disappointed to not be able to use them again. I’ve been loyal and recommended them far and wide. I now won’t be able to do that.
Policies like this push consumers to big box stores, which is so frustrating to someone invested in supporting local business.

Not that this company needs another 4-​start review but they sure deserve one.
Sound View Window & Door switched out 3 large windows in our living room. They were extremely knowledgeable, punctual, skilled and friendly.
They did a fantastic job at a reasonable price, worked fast and hard, cleaned up impeccably and were all around nice guys. We are very pleased.

Great prices and we thoroughly enjoyed working with Randy. He came to our home and walked us through sizing, options and costs. We felt very confident in Randy’s knowledge and recommendations. We shopped around and found Sound View offered the best prices and overall best service. We will return to Sound View when we replace all our downstairs windows.

We recently had all of our windows replaced by Sound View. It was a great experience, and the service was exceptional.
We had several companies come and give us bids (about 6), and the experience was by far the best with Todd from Sound View, who came to our house and proved the most affable, experienced, professional, and yet casual out of all the other representatives from other competitors. It’s a great experience when the people you deal with give you all the facts and even the ones that prove to be things you can not do to save money, or that you didn’t think to ask but they want to take the time to educate you about.
Our installation was fast, and the installer Dan was also a great guy to have in the house doing the work. He was obviously experienced and very good at his job.
It went really well, and we are happy with our decision to support them. The price was competitive and well worth every cent.

Sound View installed new front and back exterior doors for us. They really knew their stuff, asking questions I wouldn’t have thought of, and just doing a great installation job. Pricing was very competitive, and they are just a nice-​to-​work-​with bunch of folks. Our salesman and both installers were all named Dan, so that made it easy to remember their names! They spent time talking us through the steps of changing out interior doors, too. Very helpful and professional.

Jason helped us pick the replacements for our old skylights. This is one excellent store to deal with. I appreciate their knowledge and help and love the new windows.

Great service and prices!

They did a great job. One window turned out to be slightly defective and they contacted the manufacturer for me, who is coming out tomorrow to fix the bad part. All the other windows are perfect and they cleaned up pretty well after themselves.

Top notch service and craftsmanship throughout the entire process. I was speechless when I saw how lovely of a job they did. I’m actually still kind of speechless…

I found the staff at Sound View to be extremely knowledgeable and professional! Their suggestions and attention to detail allowed me to make educated decisions regardling looks, quality, pricing and overall installation. They were extrememly patient with all my questions… and «on-​site» visits… and worked well with my contractor. I would highly recommend SV windows.
