Sprocketts Recycled Bicycles

Excellent customer service. I had a few simple questions about my bottom bracket and was immediately provided assistance to get me back on the road. I’ve also had a tune up in the past and was pleased with the price and turnaround time.

Sprockets Rockets! Mike is an incredibly good bike mechanic. Quick and reasonably priced service. Free and easy parking. I went to Mike after Speedy Reedy moved to Lake Forest Park and have been very happy with several bikes that Mike has serviced for me there. A+++!

Mike runs the best bike shop in Seattle, hands down. He’s honest and approachable, and seems to take great pride in ensuring that his customers get a fair deal with excellent service when it comes to buying new and used bikes, parts, and having work done on a their bike.
If you’re in need of a new bike — new or used — or simply need service on your current ride, you can be assured that Sprocketts will take care of you, minus any sky-​high mark-​ups or lame cycling elitist attitude.
I actually ride out my way to get to Sprocketts — I live in NE Ballard and work in SLU essentially across the street from another positively reviewed bike shop — and can’t imagine taking my bike anywhere else.

After all the 5 star reviews, I was so excited to go to Sprocketts and buy a bike. I’m doing the Seattle to Portland bike ride this year, and have been doing a lot of training, and need a lighter, faster bike than my current hybrid that can get me up hills more easily. I really needed someone to help me get just the right bike for my small but heavy body gearing up for a 200 mile ride. I figured I needed to upgrade to a road bike, more costly but worth it. I was particularly interested in going to Sprockets as the reviews indicated knowledgable staff, the owner seemed passionate about bikes, and they looked like they had great bikes on their website with great prices. And yay for recycling!
As I walked in the door, I identified the owner and two other men that apparently worked there, and I was the sole customer. I announced I needed to buy a bike. They handed me off to one of the three of them, who, I discovered, didn’t seem to know much about bikes. I don’t know if it was because I was a woman or because I’m a little overweight, but I’m guessing they assumed I just needed a basic starter bike, and handed me off to the new guy who could set me up with something cheap and easy.
I told him my needs — I was training for the STP and I currently have a hybrid, it’s too heavy, I have problems getting up hills, and I need something light that would improve my experience. First he simply pointed to the bikes, as if I should just go and pick one out. I told him that I needed his help picking out the right bike for me, for my frame, that would fit me and would be better than my heavy hybrid. He then pointed and started talking about a hybrid bike there, that it was the lightest and the road bikes were heavier. That seemed a bit weird to me. I then told him I thought I needed a road bike, I didn’t need another hybrid, I already had one. He then kind of vaguely talked about the heaviness of the other bikes. I then asked if they had women’s bikes — from the research I’ve done, I know they’re sized more for smaller bodies (I’m 5’5) and smaller hands, and I knew that Sprocketts had some, and was interested. So I asked about if they had women’s bikes. He pointed to one, and then said that the only difference was the location/​angle of the top bar. Which I know isn’t true — there are many different fit adjustments on a woman’s specific bike. He also pointed out some fast racing bikes, but in a shrugged off way about how they were too expensive/​out of my price range (they were only $ 700, which was in my budget — he never asked me how much I was looking to spend).
I could tell from his demeanor and how he talked about the bikes he didn’t have any expertise with bikes. He didn’t seem like he was ready to jump in and say, okay, let’s figure out what type of bike is going to work for your frame, let’s pull a few out and see and get them fitted for you. Now, on this kind of investment, and with the number of hours I’m going to be putting on this bike, I needed good advice, and knew that I couldn’t trust this guy to help me. I will say he was a nice guy, and like I said, I figured he was new/​learning, and they just sent me to the new guy for him to get experience.
I walked out disappointed, leaving so many beautiful bikes behind, really wanting to support that local small business, but just couldn’t trust that I would be getting a good bike from that guy. So I headed over to REI and plopped down $ 1000 for a new women’s road bike, plus another $ 200 in accessories.
I just wish when the owner had heard I was looking to buy a bike, he would have personally stepped in and helped me, instead of leaving me in the hands of someone who didn’t really seem to be a cyclist at all.

Probably one of the best and friendliest place to get your bike tune-​up or buy. Very knowledgeable staff that doesn’t care if you have the cheapest bike… it is still treated like the most expensive bike. I’ve now tuned-​up 3 different bikes here, and every time I get it back, I’m just amazed by how good it looks and feel after they get their hands on it. Tuned a cheap road bike, which I thought rode okay. After they got their hands on it, i don’t know what to say, it just feels so solid. Everything is butter smooth and there is no harshness to the ride. Like it went from an economy car to a well put together BMW. The other bike was a MASI, and I thought it rode beautifully, just need the front mech tuned. Felt like a top end bike after it. Excellent service, fast turnaround, and wonderful experience. If you haven’t tuned your bike up in awhile, you might fancy checking these guys out to see just how good your bike can be. :)

Bought a groupon for a tuneup, and brought in a really old neglected bike. I was thinking of donating it, so I figure I’ll have it fixed up first. Mike was quick on getting my bike in and out. It took him one day to clean, tear down, and replace the parts I needed to replace (I had a broken hub, missing tooth in my freewheel, needed new brakes, cables, grease, adjustments, etc). All in all, he refurbished the bike and it runs like a dream! It is silent, quiet, and ride how it should. It was a cheap bike, with cheap components, but after Sprocketts got their hand on it, you wouldn’t be able to tell. Thanks for the extra low gear, it really helps with Seattle’s hills.

No nonsense, consistent, fair priced, quality workmanship. They have my repeat business.

I can not praise this bike shop enough – they are excellent. Without an appointment I dropped my bike off at 8:15 on a Wednesday and was able to pick it up by 3:30! As I dropped off my bike they gave me a quick heads up that they are likely to charge me for a new cable because by just looking they could see that mine my shredded and that if anything else came up that would be more expensive they would give me a call.
The full (deluxe) tune-​up for my bike was completed for cheaper then any other shop I contacted. Great that it was cheap but they also did very high quality work. My bike is riding like a dream — feels like it did when I bought it new.
They did it quickly and were very helpful. I will be coming back to these guys for any other tune-​ups as well as to buy a ‘used’ commuter bike.
Plus, cute dog in the shop is always a plus. :)

Local shop for me, I’m really glad to have them nearby.
I brought in my internal hub Raleigh to be looked at because it was slipping and missing horribly during my commute from Pioneer Square to Magnolia. Mike took a quick look and adjusted a cable that had been popped out (design flaw!) and fixed the issue in about 15 seconds… no charge, no fuss. Thank you! We have also sold a tricycle through the consignment and I bought a bike pump a few weeks earlier. Great, no-​nonsense type shop.

My bike had completely no noticeable improvement of cleanliness or functionality.
Mike was a very nice, helpful guy, but as far as my «deluxe» tuneup goes I’m not sure that they did anything but hold it for a few days and charge me.
My brakes still rub even after breaking them back in with a «few hard squeezes» (as directed to do so by mike), my gear shifting doesn’t feel any more noticeably effective and my chain and gears were left untouched. The first line in the description of the tune up says «clean the bike»!!
When I asked Mike if my bike was okay, he replied with «oh yeah — that will be $xx.xx».
Steer clear of this «shop» for any kind of maintenance or repairs.

Went into the shop yesterday for a front and rear dérailleur adjustment and they helped me on the spot and the adjustments were phenomenal. The price was also much less than any other shop. I will be back here with my other bikes.

I brought my bike in with what I thought was a busted bottom bracket. It took him about two seconds to figure out that the crank was loose (it wasn’t obvious), tighten it up, and get me on my way. Didn’t even charge me. Will definitely go back.

Also found Sprocketts through a groupon deal but will definitely return. The tune-​up on my commuter bike was really terrific. Despite having a bunch of other bikes in the queue they beat their own estimate and had it back, in really terrific shape, only a day or two later. I’m really excited to get riding again now that the shifting is so much more responsive, the brakes have much faster control and the tires are properly inflated. Truly exception services here — highly recommended.

This is a great place and THE best place to get your bike worked on! Very friendly staff and very reasonably priced. No reason to go anywhere else, this is the place to be.

Awesome bike shop. Got a tune-​up and found that owner is an amazing mechanic and also very fair. Doesn’t try to replace anything that’s not needed. Also sold a bike on consignment and it went without a hitch. Would highly recommend Sprocketts over any other shop I’ve been to in Seattle.

I was certain I needed a new chain, and dérailleur components after speaking with other shops and people about my bike. As a last ditch attempt to avoid this significant expense I took my beloved road bike to sprockets for a tuneup…
Amazing! the whole bike felt like it was brand new — which it has never been in my 10+ years of ownership anyway.
The staff are friendly and humble, something some of the bigger stores could learn a lot from.

Great service. Gears were not working and I gave it to Sprocketts for a basic tune-​up. Bike came out with the gears fixed and everything freshened up. Far exceeded my expectations. Very nice guys that know there stuff.

Was able to get my fenders on and my rear rack mounted same day within an hour ready for my commute. Mike was really efficient. He charged me $ 75 for installation for my rear rack and fenders plus the cost of the fenders and new upper mount for the rack. Pretty good I think considering REI wanted to charge me $ 15 for just installation of only the rack.
