St Anne Church

This is a vibrant and healthy Catholic community. My family has recently relocated and this is the perish we have decided to join, even though there are others closer to our home. If you are looking to find a congregation that is made of up of a diverse and welcoming community I would visit St Anne.

We’ve been attending St. Anne for years and love it. I’m not sure what the other poster was concerned about, when you move next to a school, expect a little yelling! The community is fantastic at the church and the kids are wonderful.

I have been visiting my adult daughter awaiting the arrival of a grandbaby. While here I have been attending the services at St. Anne. Last year there was a lovely Christmas and Easter service… beautiful music ministry and children’s liturgy but my patience is now dry. The pastor seems to ignore those he serves. This is the fourth week his instructional teaching, which should be commentaries on the Gospel readings have been housekeeping instructions… the new missal, fundraising etc. One week .ok. .perhaps two … but today… was the fourth time for me. In fact, his plea to «the choir, so to speak.» to give more money… most likely those present were the faithful ones carrying the brunt of the burden and also the ones receiving so little in return. He could have incorporated this plea into the scripture readings of the day had he done any preparation at all. Instead, he had the community read the new missal cards as if it were a second grade class while he insinuated that the Vatican II changes infringed on our abilities to understand profound words. If he no longer has the desire or ability to preach and teach the word of God, goodness he should be able to delegate it. There seems to be many able and patient people in community. If people aren’t funding the church services, perhaps the pastor should reflect that he is offering little. How could he think that week after week he can offer no reflection on the readings and how they apply to our daily lives and instead go on and on about changes that are minor and would be incorportated without any fuss. It seems that there is an organizational fuss or perhaps a grudge against changes that were made in 1960 and now they are being returned to there rightful place. The word of God was not expounded on for four weeks… perhaps longer but this is the length of my visit. I do not recommend going here for nourishment, you’ll find a clanging bell with a pointing finger… look elsewhere. I intend to do the same.

Queen Anne. St Anne. Who has heard of either, one a queen, the other a saint?
It is hard to be direct about the impact of living near a parochial school AND church without offending others.
Nonetheless, I will state that, notwithstanding my great respect for all the religions of the world (and less so for the religious institutions charged with the responsibility of…) I am not always comforted by the proximity of children who occupy the playground from 8 am until 3:30.
With outdoor recess from 10:30 am until 1:30 pm, I am wondering how much time these kids have for classroom learning. Or are they diligently practicing for extras in a new movie about kamikaze pilots on their last mission?
Children will be children, I know.
I still wonder, though, if they are in training to become the future Attila the Hun (and Hun-​esses), exercising their full-​throttle voices so that their piercing screams and cries can be heard hundreds of meters away, traveling through double-​plated glass windows?
Not only are we the neighbors blessed with their weekday presence, but on weekends we are occasionally treated as well to the appearance of white-​tents, on the asphalt playground, from which bull-​horns blare into our homes.
During the Sunday morning service the playground is transformed into a sea of cars and excited parishioners rushing out from the, euphemistically speaking, nondescript modern brick-​and-​concrete church. (Luckily the bell tower does not chime on the hour).
Late Saturday evenings the school apparently rents outs it gymnasium which results in some pretty raucous parties with very loud music.
What great luck to have such a model neighbor…
However, I admire the dark red Tudor-​ish brick building at the corner of 3^rd W., with its quiet, unprepossessing, ivy-​covered dignity: a sign of a different era, different values, namely, respect for others.
