We ordered three teriyaki lunches to go one was ordered a chicken breast teriyaki and it came with two chicken breast flattened out sliced and one of the breast was rubbery it was either over cooked or stale or something but it was it was very chewy it was horrible i could not eat it. The other 2 lunches were ok but needed more teriyaki sauce. Over all very disappointed.

Great service, and you get a ton of food. You could split it into two meals depending on how hungry you are. Their beef teriyaki and katsu is very good but their spicy chicken teriyaki is amazing. Awesome place to eat at if you want a very filling meal.

I would rate this negative –5 stars. As my wife and i are waiting after placing order. The cook comes out and goes to restroom with glove on, comes right back out one minute later glove still on one hand. This man didnt remove his glove to wash his hands or anything. I demand a refund, and the cashier was confused. Do not trust the cleanliness here. I witnessed it first hand.

Unassuming, unpretentious, straight-forward teriyaki done really well. But there’s hardly any seating, and what seating there is isn’t exactly inviting. I usually order take-out, and I’ve(almost) never been disappointed. They’re really consistent with well cooked teriyaki. I’ve tried the yakisoba, pork, chicken, veggies, spicy chicken, and salmon so far. The salmon was a little dry and somewhat disappointing, but 5 out of the 6 things I’ve tried are so consistently well done that I don’t think I need to ever find another teriyaki place. The portions are generous, the price is fair, and the teriyaki is delicious. Easily my favorite place for teriyaki in town.

I never though I would have an insane craving for teriyaki during Christmas but I did. Forget the turkey or ham, I wanted spicy chicken and rice! As soon as I got back into town after the holiday I headed over here and wow– very glad I used Unilocal.I wouldn’t have thought to come here because its not in a neighborhood that I go to and/or really love. After tonight I will make the trip regularly. First things first, the portions are VERY large. You are easily getting two meals here(depending on how hungry you are of course). The price with generous tip was $ 10. Secondly for just walking in– they were very quick. Although next time I will call ahead and just pick up. There is a small parking lot and it was easy to get a spot. Come here for your teriyaki needs people!

Too good… It’s just too good. This restaurant needs to go bigger so more people can come here to see how great the food and service is. They need to fix their door though.

Good teriyaki and yakisoba coming out of this place! I got half chicken katsu and half teriyaki chicken and it was really tasty. My girlfriend got the Yakisoba and it was awesome. I liked the Yakisoba almost more than the teriyaki but the katsu was fantastic.

Doesn’t deserve the hype. The only option with this place is take out. The venue is dismal — featuring dirty floors, stained Costco folding chairs, harsh florescent lighting, and an overall lack of cleanliness or effort. The food is obviously not made to order, and is instead reheated. The teriyaki chicken is nothing out of the ordinary, not bad — but certainly not great. The chicken Katsu is soggy. The price is comparable to any of the other teriyaki joints on the Ave. Everything here is disposable, from the silverware to the drinking cups… which is really just unacceptable in this day and age. The only saving grace here is the fast service(at the expense of quality) and the friendly staff.

Really great, really consistent teriyaki that is exactly what it promises! Ample portions, great cuts of meat.

Absolutely delicious! It was the best I’ve had! I tried the chicken and pork teriyaki combo. It came with rice and side salad. I mentioned it was my first time there and they were very helpful. Very nice family service. They mentioned they have a special recipe for the rice, teriyaki sauce and salad dressing. It sounded like they weren’t taking short cuts and it definitely tasted like it. The food came out quickly. Huge portions. I think the total cost was just above $ 10 for the combo but the regular or spicy chicken teriyaki is actually under ten bucks. The interior is not fancy, but that is not a concern of mine at all. Can’t wait to try out the other menu options like the spicy chicken teriyaki and the fried rice. I’ve been back

My boyfriend and I were in the area and craving some teriyaki, so of course I searched Unilocal!Teriyaki 1st was only a mile away and had good reviews so we wanted to try it. There is a small parking lot which is nice! The restaurant is very small on the inside, only three tables with only a couple seats for each table. I noticed that after we took our order, many people came in that had called and placed to-go orders. No one came in and sat down to eat, so it seems like the perfect place to call ahead and take back home with you. The lady at the counter was very nice! I ordered beef teriyaki and my boyfriend ordered chicken teriyaki. The orders were huge with plenty of rice! If I wasn’t so hungry(and had better self control) I could have saved some for the following day. The meat we had was very tender and flavorful! There is a small cup of extra teriyaki sauce for you to pour on your meat and rice. They put a small salad in a different container and the dressing is amazing. Next time I am in the area I will definitely come here again. Next time I will call in an order to-go so I won’t have to wait! Although the wait wasn’t that long.

My favorite teriyaki place, BYFAR. As a student out of UW, this was always my go-to place for teriyaki, even after I’ve graduated! Let me break down the pros and cons: Pros: –PLENTY of food. –Delicious. –Food gets prepared very quickly for how busy they always are. –Staff is very friendly. –Price is very fair, especially for how much food they give you. –They give you TWO scoops of rice, when most teriyaki places give you one scoop and the other part of the box is for the salad(they give you the salad in another container so they can give you as much food and meat in the regular box as they can). Cons: –It’s not in the heart of the Ave — this one isn’t that big a deal for me. It is worth the drive/walk up further north on the Ave to eat at this place. And besides, if it were in the middle of the Ave, service would suffer and possibly quality as well. –If you do not call in your order ahead of time, be prepared to wait. This place gets crowded VERY quickly(the inside is very small) so it’s better to just order to-go and eat at home(which is what my fiancé and I always do anyways when we order from Teriyaki 1st). Even though we are not students anymore and don’t live very close to UW, we are always willing to drive to Teriyaki 1st instead of walking/driving somewhere closer to where we live. This place is our most favorite teriyaki restaurant. I wish I had pictures of the food we order but it’s so delicious I don’t even think about taking pictures! I always order the New Spicy Chicken, and I absolutely LOVE it, especially since this dish gives you broccoli and onions(I love veggies). The meat is actually spicy too(a lot of times when I order spicy entrees at other places most of the time they aren’t actually spicy). I can’t wait to order food from Teriyaki 1st again very soon!

Really great spicy chicken Teriyaki. The food was ready quickly and the service was good. Not the fanciest place in earth but my doesn’t really care about that.

First teriyaki experience in Seattle and I am not feeling it. I walked from my hotel which is about a pretty good distance away because I read this place was good on here but what I got was not what I was expecting. I ordered teriyaki beef to go. The sauce tasted weird and sour, nothing like I am use to. The meat was weird and chewy. I took about three bites before I was like… no. I didn’t even want to try the small amount of salad that came with my food. Two stars: The price was okay. They do give you a lot of food. The lady here who took my order was super nice.

I seriously love Teriyaki 1st. This is my go-to teriyaki place in the U-district because the food is fast, always tastes great and the portions are huge. The prices are a little higher than other teriyaki places, but it always seems worth it to me once I start eating. There are a few small tables if you want to eat here, but I always call in my order ahead of time and get take-out to save some time. My favorites here are the spicy chicken/chicken katsu combo and the kim chee fried rice. I would definitely suggest this place to anyone in the U-district craving teriyaki!

Fast service, large portions, friendly people… there really isn’t anything not to love about the place. Small restaurant but it’s a great place to get take out or eat with a friend! This place has been here for 14 years but is now under new ownership since last Monday. I have to say, though, the food is just as good if not even better than before! Get the spicy chicken – it’s seriously good.

Favorite teriyaki restaurant in U district. The lady is so friendly and service is always great. Some days it can get busy with lots of take out orders but the food always comes out in an orderly fashion.

Reasons I love this place: good food, fast preparation, generous portions. I almost always order the beef short ribs because it’s consistently good. The place is rather small so take out is pretty much the only way to go.

So I got teriyaki here again and I have to take back a little of what I said in my last review. I was a little disappointed in the #1 chicken teriyaki combo. There was no sauce on the chicken, and the only teriyaki sauce was in a small container! So either get the spicy chicken combo or maybe ask for more teriyaki sauce. However, I will say that the rice is still good, and the chicken and teriyaki sauce is still good.

Teriyaki 1st is hard for me to rate because it does what it wants to do very well(very tender, flavorful, teriyaki chicken) but what it does is very simple. I ordered their spicy chicken and boy was I happy. This is heavily marinaded, salty, very tender, properly spiced chicken served on a bed of white rice, and accompanied by a small side salad(see photo below). I paid around $ 8.50(as of 9÷10÷2014) and I thought it was a very fair price. Because of the saltiness and spiciness, I wish that the portion of lettuce was higher, but what they gave was very fair. The environment is small, and mostly designed for takeout. There are maybe 4 tables that seat 2 – 4 people each, as well as an outside facing bar area with another 4 seats, but in general you shouldn’t plan to bring a date here. The meal is extremely simple, and something easily replicable at home, but because they do such a good job with their simple meal at a decent price, I think it deserves 4 stars.
