I was a little skeptical about coming here based on all of the bad reviews, but my experience at Travelex was actually quite positive!
We came in to exchange USD to CAD. The teller told us that there is normally $ 9-​$ 10 service charge for those exchanging money under $ 600. Since my friend also wanted to exchange USD to CAD, the teller told us she could split the $ 9-​$ 10 service charge between the both of us. She ended up converting my $ 133.29 USD (with the $ 4.97 service charge added on top of that) to $ 160 CAD. The teller was polite and the transaction went smoothly!
Travelex is located on the top food court floor of Westlake Center. You can also take the outdoors staircase by P.F. Chang’s to this floor if you don’t want to go up all those escalators in the mall.

what a RIP OFF location!!! wells fargo has way better rate than this place. 1000 dollars has almost 300 canadian dollars differences. thats ridiculous!!! dont come here!!!

An extraordinarily long wait and friendly staff. The ability to put money on a debit card did not work. Some schmuck tried to have currency from Malaysia converted. Another schmuck was chatting up visiting Japanese young women behind me. They were onto him. You meet some interesting monsters in line at this place.

I have a trip planned with a small Canadian Company and need to pay them with a check drawn in Canadian Funds — The guy working there did not know how it do this and did not have his password with him so he could be walked through the steps. What a waste of my lunch hour to walk over and not complete my task.

Either all of the previous reviewers had service from someone else, they didn’t read thoroughly and/​or were just slightly confused; I’ve no idea.
I stopped by sort of last minute (1 hour before checking in for my train). I glanced at the US to CAN rate and it was about 90% (~0.90) give-​or-​take to for USD. I believe there WAS a certain flat fee for certain amounts and whatnot. For who complain, it helps to just calculate ‘ballpark’ amounts with the post rates before doing your business so you have an idea of what to expect and how much you don’t need to flip your isht for not really going into it prepared enough.
With that said, with the board rate and the chat exchange I had with the service clerk during my visit (some filipino older lady, I believe) just to confirm things as she processed my order, I had a smooth friendly transaction. Mine was about $ 430.33 USD for requested $ 400 CAN; makes sense for an approximately 0.9 USD-​CAN rate plus whatever the $ 5 – 10 flat fee was.

This place is a crocked shit! This people has no sense of what buying or selling means. I asked for a US rate to CAD, she told me it was 0.9196. Make sense right. US 0.9196 = CAD1. I wanted to buy CAD350 she charged me $ 380.60. I told her I’m buying Canadian using US dollar on the given rate. I should pay less than CAD350 not higher amount but she said I was wrong, it’s the other way around. She refused to corrected it and kept saying that wasn’t how it worked. WTF! In the sudden Canadian dollar worth stronger than US dollar. My 2cents, go to the bank or even hotel. Run away from this unprofessional business. To the owner– your life will be miserable for lying and stealing people’s money!!!

7.85 flat fee for less than 500 $. The exchange rate was lower than the banks rate. I wouldnt go back if i had other options

On my first and only trip to this companies location in Westlake, I did not have a good experience.
The lady I talked to could barely speak english and her asian accent was so strong that I couldn’t understand her, even as a native of Seattle who is used to the wide range of asian dialects and accents spoken in the area. How she could work in customer service in a public facing capacity but not know basic english, I have no idea as it seems like a prerequisite skill for the job… but she apparently pulls it off.
And as I understand the definition as somebody who is not a lawyer, They committed what I see to be illegal fraud when they lied to me about the exchange rate. Canada and the USA are basicly 1:1: right now with canada being wrth more by a few pennies after you get into amounts in the hundred dollar range; Multiple other banks — including the one in the building I work at — confirmed that the rate they gave me was inflated and wrong when they told me 150 Canadian dollars was worth over $ 181 USD.
In addition they flat out LIED to me when I tried to use my companies credit card to buy the CAD currency that I needed; Please be aware that if you use a credit card with them, not only will it come out at a HIGHER interest rate with your credit cad company than any other purchase — they do it as a cash advance instead of a purchase, I’m assuming its because it costs them less — but they may not tell you about this so you will not know until you get your bill. As this was for my company I would have loved to know this in advance.
All in all, this is in my opinion a terrible company with terrible service, terrible people with terrible english skills, and terrible ethics.

I brought in some Canadian currency to exchange. $ 188 to be exact.
The fellow told me the charge was $ 6.95.
I said, «OK»
I asked what the exchange rate was. He said approximately one to one.
He handed me $ 150 US. I said «wait a minute. What’s the exchange rate?» He said it was approximately «one to one».
«Why did you take $ 38?»
This is the exchange rate. If you want o go back to Canada, they won’t charge you.
«GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK. THIS IS A RIP OFF!»
He gave me the money back. So far BOA and Key Bank offer exchange for nominal fee.
Travelex is now X’d off of my list for any business transactions.

I have exchanged money all over the world quickly, including some back alley in Jamaica, with little to no hassle! Given this fact, I figured that not only would this an easy trip, but I was wrong. I metered my car for 15 minutes to run into Westlake Center to exchange a very small amount of foreign currency. After reaching the 3^rd floor I came upon a short line; one foreign exchange student and one other man. There was only one teller and not only did she seem to be in no real hurry to serve customers, she was having to count and re-​count cash by hand since there was no counting machine to be found. Grrr. After she took care of the first customer (a nearly 10 minute transaction) she began waiting on the second customer. It was at this point that a young woman came in, cut the line and asked to exchange a Canadian note. When the teller agreed, the woman then flipped up her skirt, reached into her underwear and pulled out a bill. Not only was I completely dumbfounded, but I might have thrown up a little in my mouth. Once the woman left, the teller then began to work with the next customer. He was wanting to exchange enough cash to get 10,000 in euros which is a hefty sum, but shouldn’t be all that hard. First she had to figure out the rate, then tried to call to get him a better rate, then took down the information of the company he worked for, then took down his passport information, which she then realized was expired so she had to take his driver’s license info instead, THEN she had to HAND COUNT not only the American cash but the Euros as well! And by «count» I mean «count really poorly and have to recount several times.» 40 MINUTES later I finally reached the counter. I should have left, but I was trying to be patient and considering there are so few places to exchange cash in town I figured I would just wait it out. When I got to the counter, I found out that they wouldn’t exchange coins, the rate was TERRIBLE and there was a $ 6.95 fee to exchange 22 British Pounds! After exchanging what I could, I ran back out to my car and of course there was a $ 39 parking ticket waiting for me! FML! Do yourself a favor and exchange all your cash before getting back to Seattle.

On my first (and only) visit to this Travelex location, they made a mistake. That is, my fiancée called them in advance and asked them to hold a specific amount of foreign currency. They messed up, and gave me the wrong amount. So I called them back right after leaving the store, when I found out what happened. No big deal, right?
Wrong. Travelex told me that I’m stuck with the exchange, and that my only option was to re-​sell them the currency.
They weren’t terrible about it. In fact, I’d go so far to say that they followed their rules, however curtly they might have done so. However, if you’ve read this far, you won’t mind if I give you my two cents: that life’s too short for «meh» customer service. If I find a currency exchange with a nicer attitude, that’s where I’ll head.
