University of Washington Golf Driving Range

This driving range is a terrific deal for UW students. I mean, seriously, does it get better than this? Sure the grass may not always be super fresh and green, but let’s face it… we’re all here to hit balls and practice our swings.

$ 30 for 2-​hr lessons x4 weeks
Large bucket = $ 3.25 (cheapest I have ever seen… no joke)
Open until 11pm on weekdays July-​Aug.

I like coming here to hit some balls at the driving range. I have no skillz but it’s fun and cheap and a good workout!
It’s $ 6 for a bucket of balls and you can hit through those in half an hour or so. Love it!

The UW Golf Range was a go to place for me while I attended the UW. However, now that I no longer get student pricing, I would rather go somewhere else. The driving range is not very well maintained and there are not that many driving spots, which can force you to wait if you plan on hitting the driving range right after work. Additionally, part of it is uncovered, so if it is raining, there is even less space to drive balls.

Great range, price is very reasonable in comparison to others in the area. Range mats could be better but overall pretty nice.

Pretty sweet deals for students as well as general public.
If you have a valid UW student ID, you only have to $ 3 per bucket. $.25 per golf club for rental. If it is general public, it is $ 6 per bucket.
I liked the space. I do not golf soon but I think this is a convenient location for students as well as nearby residents to enjoy a relaxing day. They also have free parking. Yes!

UW is fortunate to have one of the best golf instructors in the NW. His name is Martin gonzales. I have been to interbay and various places taking lessons and no comes close to Martin. I saw immediate improvement in my golf swing after a short time in working with Martin.

Student rate of $ 27 for 10 buckets (punch card) — can’t beat that! Student can buy buckets for their friends/​family, so grab a student, and go.
We come here regularly, the staff is always friendly, parking is free, the putting and chipping areas are large enough for multiple people to use at a time (although sometimes one area is blocked off for classes). The stalls are fine (there’s just one that’s at an angle, that I would never use), but it’s never been so full that I’ve had to wait for a spot. It’s about ½ covered, ½ uncovered. There are plenty of benches for those who need a break.

Nice driving range. Chipping area and putting green is a good place to practice the short game. Good customer service by the staff. Cool place to take golf lessons. Best time to go is during the early morning or late in the afternoon. UW Golf Driving Range rocks!!!

Cheapest driving range in seattle. $ 5.75 for a bucket of 75 balls for general public.
Only problem is it’s kind of a pain to get to because of montlake/​university traffic.

Buckets are $ 5.75 (staff discount $ 4.75) for 75 balls I believe. Has an artificial turf chipping green with several holes/​break. The putting green has several holes and is fairly endulated (can put uphill, downhill, flat).
The driving range itself contains several stalls (much larger than puetz). Some are covered, some are not. Each stall has a laminated sheet detailing yardage to the greens/​pins in the range which is kind of cool.
Staff is always friendly.
To the lefty in his mid 40s — stop banging your club and getting mad when you have bad shots, you’re freaking people out.

Oh. Snap. Review number two. I’m first place of all the people not first place. That makes me number one. Point: Me.
I’ve been going to the driving range since the dawn of time. On day one, God create the light and the dark. On day two, God created a 50 yard marker shaped like an over-​sized stop sign with kumquat sized dents. Day three came the ladies. Somewhere that got lost in Hebrew-​English translation. Separation of waters wasn’t until day 17 or so, right after beer and before Hannah Montana.
UW students get a discount and non-​UW students get to talk about how they once were and/​or are friends with a UW student and deserve a discount. The clubs at the location are abysmal, especially if you’re a lefty. My friend, a righty, also found out that all of the right handed drivers were broken. The buckets are large though and a reasonable price, and there are plenty of greens tees open, although most are uncovered, which is lame if it’s raining.
There is a lot of room at this driving range and visibility is excellent. However, the range has gone through some changes, and these changes are not excellent. Excellon’t. That’s a word I made up because otherwise this review would be really boring. Also, 3.14 is PIE backwards.
Okay then, on to the changes:
— The awesome 50 yard signs were replaced with flags. This is unforgivable. Minus 700 stars.
— Every ⁵⁰⁄₇₅ yards or so they created raised greens. That would be neat if I was practicing chips or approach shots. It’s a driving range though and I planned on driving.
— What makes the first point in the second dash relevant to the second point in the same dash is that because the greens are raised, it is impossible to tell how far your ball goes beyond 200 yards.
This is a considerable problem. 200 yards is a mediocre drive, and part of the fun going to the driving range as a non-​golfer is to see how far the ball goes. All I know is that it went over 200 yards. Beyond that I know nothing. Did I hit the fence? Did I barely make it over? Is my vision fooling me and I didn’t even reach 200 yards but the 50 yard raised green is in my way and it’s causing an optical illusion?
Even real golfers (the ones that go to a driving range and practice their 7 iron) are going to run into problems figuring out how successful they are if they can’t see the greens they’re supposedly landing on. Raised greens were a bad idea at a driving range that was originally best in class, especially the raised 50 yard green that pretty much gets in the way of all other greens.
Despite these serious flaws (the loss of the 50 yard sign being the most tragic), it’s still one of the best driving ranges in Seattle, and the best driving range at the University of Washington, hands down.

Ambidexterity should make life easier, right? You can equally use both hands. Buuuuh, not so much with golf.
My sis hooked me up with some lessons for my birfday. The instructor was detailed oriented and was all about focusing on posture and those small ‘twitches’ that became habits in your game.
I started out righty because that’s what I’ve done in the past, but felt so uncomfortable, so I switched to lefty. Most people are righties, so I was scaring the fuck out of the my friend across from me every time I topped the ball. If you’re a lefty, make sure you use the far left stall to avoid any confrontation or awkward stares when you’re not swinging ’cause you’ll be face to face.
The driving range always seems to be busy, but I think I’ve only been there on peak hours.
It’s a decent driving range and I highly recommend the lessons if you need to work on your swing.
