Village Green Perennial Nursery

My husband and I ran across Village Green Perennial Nursery when we stopped by the Re-​C event in SoDo a few weekends back. It was a gardening, craft, artisan market. We wanted to grab a couple of sugar snap pea plants from VG but were too slow and missed the last flat of them by minutes.
So Joy, one of the women manning the booth, told us about a Mother’s Day Brunch and Tour event that they were having at their Nursery. They told us that we would be able to pick up a couple sugar snap pea plants then.
When we arrived we were surprised to find that it was a Nursery that was actually yucked away in the middle of a neighborhood in White Center. It was a larger plot of land that had been converted from just a larger yard into an urban nursery/​hideaway.
While we ended up missing the tour by about 15 minutes (we really need to work on our timing), we were able to grab our sugar snap pea plants and some Chive Blossom Butter that they also made. It was absolutely perfectly paired with some of the most delicious scones that we have ever had (they’re SO MUCH BETTER than the Washington State Fair ones, not kidding).
We learned a bit about some of the native plants that they grow as well as medicinal plants that they have, we ran into some hummingbirds, and were able to mingle amongst the honey bees near their hives.
It was a really nice experience overall. Joy and everyone that was there was incredibly nice and helpful. I am looking forward to their next event, and definitely recommend a perusal around here if you have never been.

This place is surprising and magical, off the beaten path, great to get out of the old Home Depot and regular nursery standards. Ask to see the «dinosaur lily pads»!

Village Green is a wonderful nursery that has an amazing selection. Everything I have ever bought from Village Green is very healthy and thrives. If you care about organic gardening, old world and heirloom plant varieties, and buying from a small business then this is the business for you!

Love this nursery. It’s an anti-Molbak’s or Swansons in the sense that it’s all about the plants. No scented candles, gift shop or café. Just plants. Picked by their owner because they grow well in our climate. I went in search of plants for a very particular climate and walked away with some gorgeous, pink Armeria, which I haven’t seen at very many nurseries (honestly can’t recall ever having seen them before). For a small place, they have a decent selection.

Whoa, this place is crazy! I’ve been hearing about Village Green for a while and always see their sandwich board at 26^th and Roxbury. My husband and I decided we needed some indoor plants so we walked over to check it out. The location is very unassuming as it is just on a quiet, residential street.
The nursery is run out of the owner’s backyard and it’s huge! I wish this was my yard. The selection is large and is spread out over the grounds. Besides plants, they have other fun things like chickens and bees on the property. My husband and I don’t know much about plants and were kinda winging it. After we meandered around for about 10 minutes looking, the owner came over to help us. Once we told her what we were looking for, she led us around to check out a few different options. If you don’t see what you need, you should definitely ask because she brought out a few plants that she was keeping inside.
Our total haul was 2 small ferns ($ 5 each), mid-​size aloe plant in a nice pot ($ 17), a succulent ($ 9) and some crazy plant I’d never heard of (strawberry begonia? $ 5 because it wasn’t in a pot). When we were paying I also noticed they sell eggs from the chickens and composting material.
After we left I kept thinking about all of the other things I could buy and plant in my yard. I guess you could say I was a little inspired? This place is a win-​win-​win for me: I can walk here, they have a great selection and the customer service is excellent! Can’t wait to come back.

I used to drive by this place and wonder what it was like shopping there because it just looks like a house. One day I took my daughter there and was blown away that this had a huge back area where all the plants where sold at.
Everything was grouped out and really they had a ton of different plants. I wasn’t sure what I wanted but the prices kinda made me keep thinking because I know at the home improvement stores they were that price or cheaper.
After I bought a plant I thought was outside only because it was outside already I was told its an inside plant which got me a little frustrated because I didn’t feel like trying to return it so I found a spot inside. But over all this is a beautiful spot and if you do have questions they are happy to answer, just seemed a little pricey.

Is there anything I can say that hasn’t already been said? Probably not… but I love it so much that I had to add another 5 stars to Village Green’s roster. This place is yet another wonderful locally owned business promoting community in the incomparable White Center neighborhood.
Go there. Buy green things. Don’t miss the chickens and the amazing forest garden with those big ass dinosaur plants.
A must see if you’re a gardener… or if you’re a human being.

This place is incredible!!! The staff is knowledgeable beyond knowledgable, helpful and kind. The property is beautiful and fun to walk around, especially if you have little ones (swings, ladders, chickens, sandbox, playhouse, etc). We stayed and played until closing and my kids were sad to leave. The quality of plants and the variety is vast and wide. It kills me that I live about a mile away for the past 13 years and this is my first visit. I plan to make a few more trips in the next few weeks and will make it part of my regular stops! LOVE!!!

Village Green is fantastic! It is a wonderfully family friendly nursery run by a very knowledgable woman and her staff of brilliantly helpful people. You just want to stroll around and wander through the beautiful plants that they have and dream about the garden that you could have… They have wonderfully unusual plants and natives and organic vege starts and so much more… Pottery and yard art all in a blissfully natural setting tucked away in a beautiful hilside of a backyard.

This GREAT woman owned business sits tucked away on approximately 2 acres in an un-​incorporated area of White Center/​West Seattle. The current owner took an existing non-​organic plant nursery and has turned it into an oasis of organic co-​op like wonderment & delight.
There is a lovely selection of organically grown plants, nestled in natural beds that are surrounded by mature shade trees, shaded pathways that practically beg you to stroll deeper into the property, a babbling brook, bee hives, a chicken coop (yes, they have chickens, including a handsome rooster!), a veggie garden, an artists «nook» with fun pottery and jewelry items, glazed ceramic pots in all shapes and sizes for container gardening, yard art, etc. I can’t imagine not finding what you need here, and if for some reason you couldn’t, I’d bet owner Vera would track one or more down for you tout de suite.
They also offer great classes (art, gardening, pottery, bee keeping, rain water collection, etc.), summer camps for kids and other fun events, so be sure to check their web site and/​or Facebook page to stay current on all the latest and greatest happenings.
Note to the other Unilocalers w/​little kids like me: this is a WONDERFUL place to meander about w/​your children in tow. Lots to see, touch and learn about. You could easily spend an hour or more here w/​the little ones & not have them whining to leave b/​c their bored. There’s no way to be bored at Village Green, young or old.

Like a good neighbor who loves gardening, Village Green is a friendly place to stroll, talk over plants and figure out what is right for your place and your tastes. My wife and I are very pleased with the veggie and herb starts we got there, and will be back soon to talk over roses. It’s practically a small park! (We also enjoyed their lavender mocha!)

The BEST place in West Seattle to get healthy, beautiful plants that will do well in your garden, along with great advice and a wonderful garden experience. Wonderful with kids, this is the place to bring your child to play in the sandbox while you browse. I come here for native plants, organic starts, compost, and great deals on reduced price plants.
