Violet Sweet Shoppe

I worked with the owner, Crystal, for my summer 2015 wedding. My husband and I are vegetarian and vegans were in attendance at our wedding, so it was important our cake reflected our lifestyle. Lucky from us, the shoppe was very close to our Fremont neighborhood apartment. I’d recommend contacting her 6 months in advance, as she is very busy during the summer wedding season and dates fill up fast. After the initial contact over email, we met in person for a one-​on-​one discussion and tasting. Bringing my phone with a Pinterest board really helped her get an idea of what I was looking for. Our cake was vanilla with a vanilla butter cream filling. Picking up the cake went smoothly and we transported it to the venue ourselves.
The cake itself was simple white frosting with horizontal grooves for texture. The grooved texture added a modern, casual look that worked perfectly for the outdoor event. My florist added flowers to the cake at the venue. We were very happy with the final product.

Oh my gosh this place could get me in trouble. Amazing cupcakes, more candy options than I know what to do with, and a friendly staff. I plan to check it out whenever I’m in the area!

My first year wedding anniversary was approaching and I wanted cake to be part of the celebration. The original bakery I used for the special day was booked the weekend I needed. Bummer! Recently I’ve made a shift to eating more vegan so I decided why not try a vegan cake? I searched vegan cake in Unilocal and came across Violet Sweet Shoppe.
After looking through the website the flavor choices sounded appetizing and the price was just right. There are set cake, filling, and frosting flavors ranging from your basic white cake and white buttercream frosting to Boston Crème Pie. While the choices piqued my interest I was looking to create my own cake. The site asks for at least three days notice and I procrastinated but decided to call anyway. The person on the phone was very nice and helpful and told me they would be able to make the cake for my desired pick up day. I found out I didn’t have to choose the set cake flavors on the website. The baker could mix and match as long as it was listed. I choose chocolate cake, with raspberry filling, and white buttercream frosting.
A few days later I was at Violet Sweet Shoppe to pick up my cake. The shop is very white, very boutique. I have not been to France but I imagine this is similiar to what a fancy candy shop there would look like. That day there were no pastries but I was told they were on the way but there was vegan candy galore! I couldn’t complain about that. I picked up a vegan chocolate toffee bar and vegan gummy candy in addition to the cake.
At the end of anniversary day the hubby and I dug in to the cake and it was delicious. I have had my fair share of vegan cake and this has been the best by far. You can’t even tell its vegan! My husband even enjoyed it and he is a carnivore to the fullest. From here on in Violet Sweet Shoppe will be my go to place for special occasion treats. Yas!

I have ordered at least 10 cakes from Violet Sweet Shoppe and occasionally just stop by for some sweet treats. They are by far my favorite bakery and even my family who are not vegan requests their cakes for special occasions! If you haven’t tried their yummy treats or cakes, you have to go soon!!! Their shortbread cookies and cupcakes are especially delicious!

Violet Sweet Shoppe has the most amazing bakery foods! Their chocolate chip cookies are my favorite ever and I’m not even vegan.
If you haven’t tried an opera cupcake or cup from them, call ahead and order 12! Definitely my favorite special-​birthday-​order bakery.

By far the best bakery I have ever been to with amazing cupcakes, pumpkin bread, muffins, etc. The lemon birthday cake I ordered with my girlfriend’s name was perfect and ready as promised.

I’ve been frequenting VSS since they first opened their bakery location near U-​Village! I’ve enjoyed every treat I’ve ever purchased from cakes & cupcakes to tartes, cookies and (oh my gosh) the milkshakes! Crystal made beautiful Where the Wild Things Are themed carrot cakes for my two baby showers & they were heartily enjoyed by vegans and non-​vegans alike. I think those who had preconceived notions of what a vegan cake would be lacking have changed their tune for the future after being wow-​ed by her creations. I look forward to my sons first birthday so his first cake can be a Violet Sweet Shoppe treat too!

I’ve had multiple items from Violet Sweet Shoppe, and each one has been delicious! Chocolate espresso cupcake to die for, jumbo cookies with perfect flavor and texture, decadent salted peanut butter cups, and a beautiful chocolate vanilla layered cake that tasted as good as it looked! The best part is they’re completely vegan, and I would recommend them to anyone, vegan or not!

I’ve had Crystal make two birthday cakes; they exceeded my high expectations. She was careful to ask exactly what I wanted.
I have also seen myriad examples of her custom decorating talent. The passive-​aggressive jerk who left a one-​star review missed out by not opening his mouth and asking for adornment.

Long time customer, have loved everything I’ve ever ordered here! The fruit tarts are probably my favorite, especially the lime tart they have in the summer time. It doesn’t hurt too that the shop is absolutely adorable. Sadly, I can’t go in too often or else I overdose on vegan gummy worms…
Crystal made our wedding cake a couple of months ago (lemon with strawberry filling) and our non vegan guests went crazy over it! It was absolutely delicious. Everything about the whole process was incredibly easy and I would strongly recommend Violet for any of your baked goods needs (or simply wants).

The challenge with vegan food or desserts is compromise in taste.
I ordered a birthday cake for my son a week in advance. The store keeper recommended a vanilla cake. It was such a boring white cake. They did not even offer to write at least a happy birthday nor was there any decorations. It was not worth taking a digital camera shot. Taste wise, it was like angel food cake, dry and void of flavor.

This gets an OMG from me! What a lovely little shop. I had a mini-​bundt cake: vanilla cake with a chocolate glaze and a delicious bit of filling. It achieved the rare combination of moist AND light. Yum! The décor is delightful, pretty but not overly cutesey-​girly look — I love the parrot wallpaper. I loved chatting with the owner/​baker. I live in West Seattle, but I’ll be back at Violet very soon for more baked goodies and perhaps a little candy.
I can’t think of a better place in Seattle for my weekly sweet indulgence.

My husband bought a Vanilla Bean cake for my birthday in March and it was perfectly sweet and simple. It trumped every piece of wedding cake I’ve ever had.
For his birthday this week, I ordered an Opera cake (espresso soaked vanilla cake, espresso frosting, and dark chocolate ganache). Good. God. It was everything. It’s the kind of cake that would turn people vegan, if they weren’t already.
Pro tip: If you’re too impatient to wait for said Opera cake to come to room temperature after it’s been refrigerated, give it 20 seconds in the microwave and you’ll have the molten Opera cake of your dreams.

These guys are just the greatest. An incredible assortment of baked goods and all sorts of vegan candy from around the world that you’d be hard pressed to easily find anywhere else. They also made my wife a terrific birthday cake exactly how she wanted.
We stop in every time we go to Seattle. It’s become a tradition.

Beautiful new store with a very impressive selection of vegan chocolates and candies. I really love their made-​by-​request 8″ carrot cakes. I do miss the little seating area from their old store where you could grab a coffee or tea and sit down to enjoy it for a while but other than that the new store is a tremendous improvement.
Highly recommend the carrot cake. I haven’t tried all their cake flavors yet but those have been great.

Finding Violet Sweet Shoppe’s bakery at it’s old location near University Village for the first time was a great day; I was new to Seattle and had been searching for a food-​allergy-​friendly bakery. I’m from Portland, OR where there are numerous vegan bakeries, and Violet Sweet Shoppe honestly blows them all out of the water. Their baked goods outshine animal-​product-​containing baked goods overall too (for the skeptical friends and significant others out there.) «Well, it’s good for a vegan cupcake» doesn’t apply here; they’re just plain good. I’ve read other reviews saying the cakes weren’t that great, but I’d have to disagree. They are the slightest bit denser than some others I’ve had, but not grainy at all and very moist; I prefer my cakes like this as opposed to fluffy and falling apart. Their frosting is light and sweetened/​flavored just right too.
They are now operating out of their Phinney Ridge location, which is their adorable candy store, after having to move from the U Village area (sad!) There’s been a decrease in baked goods offered at the new location, but it’s my understanding that this is temporary while they are finding a new bakery location; I hope I’m right, because I’d love to have the wide selection back!
The candy store has great selections as well, and I love the focus on local, quality products. From toasted sesame dark chocolate made in Portland, to fruit snacks that are actually made of fruit, I’ve found many things to enjoy here. The taffy is really great too!
Overall, love this place and I’ll continue to come back even though the location is more out of the way for me now. The owners are great — really informative, kind, and you can tell they really care for the business. Definitely give this place a try if you haven’t, but get there early if you’re pining for some baked goods at the Phinney location!

This Violet Sweet Shoppe is a little vegan candy shop. If you are familiar with the location that used to be in University Village, some of the vegan baked goods are found here.
I was pretty pleased with the University Village location of Violet Sweet Shoppe, but wasn’t as thrilled when I came to this location. However, it is not to say that this is a bad place — because it is fantastic in specific aspects.
The shop is located in Phinney Ridge on 65^th street. It’s right next to Bus 5’s stop if you are commuting. The shop is bright, and has fun pastel, lights colors. It’s very, very clean and everything is beautifully organized. You can find all the candy and chocolate on the left and right of the store. They have chocolate, taffy and other little sweet goodies. I decided to buy some of the taffy (25 cents each, or a mixed bag of 40 for $ 10). Buying a bulk of taffy is not discounted, just a FYI. They have a good range of flavors for taffy. I really enjoyed the apple and strawberry taffy, although all the ones i tried were good. They are a bit harder at first compared to saltwater taffy, but they soften up very fast and then melt in your mouth. The flavor is very prominent. They also have dark chocolate (my favorite), but I found that it wasn’t dark enough. I saw a 51% cocoa but I still prefer mine to be darker. They have a few other chocolate selections as well.
If you are craving some of the baked goods from the University Village location, you will find solace since there are some here! The only thing is that the selection is a lot less. While the previous location had shortbreads, cookies, cupcakes, cakes, tarts, etc., this location (at the time I went in) only had one cupcake flavor, a small bundt cake and medium sized cakes. It may be that this location focuses on the candy aspect more than the baked treats though. None the less, I got a banana chocolate chip bundt cake and it was phenomenal! I usually expect bundt cakes to be quite dense but this was super fluffy, moist and soft. There are mini chocolate chips all over the top, but I would have preferred them to be scattered throughout the cake itself. Each bite that did have chocolate was a winning bite though. You would have never guessed that this cake was vegan. They invert a plastic container for easy transportation — which is a great plus. This bundt cake was much bigger than a cupcake and only $ 5. I found this to be a great price for the mini bundt.
The lady who was there was very polite, but not very social. We were the only ones inside the shop, so it felt a little awkward not having any conversation. I might just be bias because the guy at the University Village location was very social and outgoing. She was kind about punching my credit card number in when it wouldn’t swipe and packed everything nicely in a bag for us to carry.
Overall, there are really great things about this vegan candy shop. If all the baked goods are like that bundt cake, I am really tempted to try more.

I love this place! Not only do they supply some seriously delicious vegan candy… But their baked goods are so dang tasty!
I got a cake for my birthday! It was basically just like a giant Pisa Cup! They’re prices are so reasonable and cheap, even, for custom cakes!
The gummy worms were the greatest!
The chocolate bars are to die for!
I can easily walk out of their having spent 100 $! :)

This shop is a quaint little treasure box I discovered with my family. It has whimsical décor (keep an eye out for their artisan wrapping paper and cards) and conjures up memories of willie wonka. I would love this place no matter what but it’s an especially outstanding find for vegans. Violet’s boasts a nice variety with plenty of unique and classic selection. Try to get your hands on anything from Chocolate Hollow. Their hazelnut truffle log made me giddy; no joke! I also recommend the watermelon gummy that was divine. A must visit!

Had a fantastic vegan fruit tart here! The shop itself is super cute, the owner is so nice and answered various questions I had.
Violet Sweet Shoppe stocks a lot of various vegan candies, caramels, chocolates, gummies and more. There are also some baked goods that the owner makes that are beautiful and tasty.
I’ve heard you can get custom cakes done here so I definitely would consider getting one made for a birthday, etc.

Cute little candy store on Phinney Ave. It’s an offshoot of their more famous and larger Ravenna branch, which specializes in vegan cakes.
Everything in the store is vegan. I think the layout of the store is spare and cute, but the limited product is pretty expensive.
