This comedy show featuring women comedians was recommended by a friend of mine. Not being a huge fan of stand-up since most of it’s lowest common denominator humor is neither original or funny. Wine Shots was a pleasant and welcome surprise to that. Truly funny stories told by very talented performers. They started with a skit about women in prison and then single performers took the stage for about 10 minutes each. Each one had a different style than the other, so if one wasn’t a favorite, another would be. Very supportive atmosphere. I plan on this being a regular thing for me. Every second Sunday of the month in the Grotto at the Rendezvous.

I’m a new stand up comedian, so I see all kinds of poorly run, sloppy, awkward comedy shows. This is NOT one of them. This show is honestly one of the best in the Pacific Northwest and I would highly recommend it to comedy fans, non-bozos and ladies/queer folks/human people who like to LOL but are looking for comedy that’s of a higher quality than dudes joking about women. The producers are hilarious, and every time I’ve seen Wine Shots, the guests were established, funny comics as well! I love being on the show, they treat the performers really well, and being in the audience alike. It has a really inclusive, unique and intimate feel that sets it apart from most shows. The producers are obviously close friends with countless crazy stories about each other, which they often tell onstage, and the«wine shots» they take with the audience at the beginning of the show make it feel like you’re a part of their group. It’s not your average comedy night, and thank god for that. If you’re looking for a fun night out or a higher quality comedy experience than free open mics full of dudes telling wiener jokes, go see Wine Shots!

I was pretty excited for this event since it combined two of my favorite things; wine and comedy. Plus I was rather happy to see that it was all female comedians since I really don’t get to see enough stand up by women. Too bad this was honestly the most awful comedy show I have ever been to. I am used to seeing people bomb, it is just a part of the comedy world, but I have been to plenty of free open mic events that far surpass this in quality. Initially I thought $ 5 was a good deal. Nope, not at all. The building awkward tension in the room was so thick it made my skin crawl. It was hosted in a hot and cramped room with no ventilation. Add that to very small, very hard wooden chairs that were placed so close to each other that I was cuddling the people next to me the entire show and you could not get a more uncomfortable experience. The tiny shot of wine they provide you with is a gimmick to trick people into paying money for this mental torture. I wish I had just left after the first 10 minutes and eaten the loss of my $ 5 and bus fare. I got zero enjoyment from this event, unless you count the pleasure of complaining about it with others after it was over.
