Deckmaster Fine Decks specializes in deck, arbor, gazebo, and patio cover design and construction. We follow green business practices through recycling and reusing old-​growth redwood.

All I can say is ‘WOW’. As part of a much larger remodel project, we failed to realize that we would need to replace our old (30+ year redwood porch/​deck). Long story short, we did not budget for this. We were convinced that since this is our main entrance we needed to have an appealing look to be in alignment with the other remodeling going on. We got three quotes from different contractors and it was clear that Deckmaster was far superior in terms of expertise, craftsmanship and frankly, thoughtfulness. Weston gave us more information and ideas than any other provider. We decided based on Weston’s expertise that Tigerwood was the best for our situation. It’s extremely dense, resistant to pests, very low maintenance and striking visually.
We awarded Deckmaster Fine Decks the project due to our comfort level with Weston and his installers. Weston was the only provider that introduced us to his crew prior. As the project progressed, there is not one thing about what we got that one could consider ‘average.’ Anyone else would have built us a ‘deck.’ Weston built us a fine piece of furniture out of exotic tigerwood. One of the other contractors stopped by to follow up on his quote and saw the newly completed deck. His reaction too, was ‘wow.‘
I consider myself a recovering ‘do it yourselfer’ as I struggle with letting go of letting someone else do what I can do myself. As it turns out. not only could I have never in my life built a deck so beautiful… neither could any other deck builder.

I researched deck companies and costs for over 4 years. Deckmaster actually did my first estimate in 2010. I kept looking around, because I thought that I could get the job done a little cheaper. I had a moldy, crumbling, first generation Trex deck that was badly in need of replacement. So here is what I learned. Deckmaster’s estimates were consistently 10−15% higher than anybody else. But when I read the fine print, I realized that ALL of the other companies were going to use all or most of the existing substructure (beams, joists, posts and ledger board). Deckmaster could have put a 25 – 30 year deck surface (we went with Cumaru wood) on a substructure that would have only lasted another 10 years and I would not have known the difference. But Weston’s estimate included replacing ALL of the aging substructure. Bottom line: For a little more money I got an ALL NEW deck, not just deck surface and posts.
Okay so how was the work? Simply amazing. If you can, ask for MIGUEL as your foreman, his attention to detail was second to none. The rest of the crew, DAVID, LUCAS, and AARON were on time every day, worked hard, rain or shine. I’m sure they must have taken some breaks… but we NEVER saw them sitting on their butts. They took a short lunch break, but once that was over, they got back on the job and they move FAST. They left the work area clean every day. Swept up their sawdust, put away, and covered up their tools, even though they were going to be back first thing in the morning. Incredibly polite, neat, punctual group of guys. I think my wife wanted to adopt them :-D. I have had work crews for several different projects over the last 30 years, and have never seen a better crew from any trade.
I will post some pictures of the work and the fine detail on their work later. I wanted to add that they demolished a 350 sf deck, poured new footings, built a substructure you could land a plane on, doubled the deck size to 700 sf, and finished the deck with an attention to detail that you would expect from fine furniture craftsmen, not a typical «deck builder» in about 2 ½ weeks. I’m not sure that they could promise a timeline like that for everyone, but Weston knew that we had to have the deck done by March 28 for a outdoor Bridal Shower for 60, high heel wearing, food and wine spilling women, and they got it done by March 25! My only mistake was waiting so long to finally hire Deckmaster. I could have been enjoying my deck for the last 4 years!

Deckmasters Fine Decks just completed an amazing transformation of our yard. They built us a beautiful sustainable hardwood deck to replace a 30 year old deck in major need of replacement. The owner, Weston, was fantastic. He not only helped us envision the perfect deck for our yard, he even spent two hours with me (before we even had a signed contract) at the building permit department to determine our options after we found out that our neighborhood had been rezoned and our setbacks changed! Miguel, Otoniel and their crew of deck artisans was outstanding– true artists and craftsmen. They were clean and careful (we didn’t lose a single plant!) and the results exceeded our expectations! We are very glad we contracted with them. I highly recommend Deckmaster Fine Decks!

These folks are amazing. We had an old deck, which was beyond repair, and Weston came and gave us a great design. He listened very closely to our desires, and created a design that fit in well with our hilly terrain, surrounding redwoods, and desire for low maintenance.
The building of the deck was excellently managed by Miguel, with frequent visits by Weston to check on the work. Miguel suggested some improvements which Weston had discussed at the beginning, but we didn’t realize the value of until we saw the deck being built. The improvements were excellent. The worksite was kept clean, and the communication on starts and stops due to rain was excellent.
We now have a deck which will be enjoyed by us, and future owners of the property, as I’m sure it will last longer that we will.
The attention to detail was astounding!

As part of a gut and rebuild, I tore off two decks from my hillside home.
When it was time to contract for new decks I went to one of the Marin Civic Center «Home & Garden» shows, where I spoke to multiple companies, and had a few of them come out to the property.
After getting bids, it was time to look at prior jobs by the different installers. I drove up to Sonoma county, where most of DeckMaster’s work is, and was shown probably a half-​dozen jobs. The work looked clean and professional, and I made the commitment.
Oh — I should mention: I had decided to go with ipe («Brazilian teak») so this was not an inexpensive project. It HAD to look great when it was finished.
Well, the crew was on time every day, and they were all very professional — I still remember thinking what a classy bunch of guys they were. And of course the 5 stars means that the deck was as awesome as I could have hoped for…

I met Weston a few days ago when I purchased some recycled redwood from him for a planter box project. He gave me a very fair price which I suspect is at a loss considering the wood had all the nails pulled. I’m very excited for the opportunity to build my planter boxes without having to cut down a tree. Weston was very kind and I would not hesitate to use him for a bigger project.
