The Temple

The Temple is a very relaxing place. Keila is a very humble and caring person, she has a amazing gift of knowledge about the body and how it should function. She uses it to serve the needs of correcting the things that are making your body not function the way it should. She’s very honest and very supportive and takes the extra time needed to get you well. She truly loves people and loves helping them. What a amazing gift of knowledge she shares with people in need.

I drive 45 minutes to receive my massages from the Temple. I have received many massages from other therapist but find they are nothing more than surface massage. I see Keila when I want a deep therapeutic massage. She is professional and her studio is very clean. The ambiance is perfect for a relaxing massage and find her prices extremely reasonable. If you are looking for a REAL massage, I highly recommend The professionalism and hospitality of The Temple.

Oh boy, I almost don’t know where to start. This is a one person studio, and she’s very nice. She’s just not a good massage therapist at all. According to her, her clients are almost all over 70 years old so maybe that was my mistake. All I know for sure is that I received the absolute worst massage I’ve ever had. Bar none.
Let’s start at the beginning. When I walked in for my 4:00 appointment she was still with a client. No biggie. I walked around the halls to check out the place. It’s pretty scummy, but not bad enough where you’d freak out. Old stairs that move when you walk up them. Indoor outdoor carpet that looks like it should have been replaced 30 years ago. Neighbors that have moved out. (It’s in an indoor strip of small businesses)
After taking a tour and hanging out some I was greeted by the owner, and only employee, Keila. She gave me a form to fill out that asked way too many questions. Why would she need to know who my insurance provider is, my home, work and cell numbers, my medical history including every possible condition I might have, and then have me sign a HIPAA release? Seriously? Can you tell me under what circumstances this massage woman is going to need to transmit any information in an electronic form in connection with a transaction for which HHS has adopted a standard???
Whatever. I signed it simply because my back was killing me. Fortunately I had called ahead and asked Keila if she was able to work on injured backs. She assured me she was a specialist in spinal treatment. LOL, oh boy did that turn out to be a line of BS.
Into the room I went. «Get undressed as much as you are comfortable and then get on the table laying face up.» No biggie. I undressed and crawled under the massive load of blankets on the table. Does she think we’re in Alaska? I figured maybe she was going to crank the air down, so I would need those blankets. Nope. Never happened. Eventually I had to ask her to take them off. She took one off. Does she love these blankets or something? I told her I was extremely hot, as if the part where I was sweating wasn’t a big enough clue, so she finally removed the other two blankets and left the two incredibly thick sheets on me.
Turns out I wasn’t the only one hot. She was sweating up a storm while giving the massage. Yuk. Seriously? You’re going to sweat on people as you massage them? Oh well… maybe that saves her money on oil, except she didn’t use any oil. Instead she used a cheap lotion that immediately absorbs and left her tugging on my skin rather than massaging my body. I was caked with this paste by the time we finished, and honestly we should have been finished after the first 5 minutes. This person who «specializes in spinal treatment» NEVER TOUCHED THE AREA! Disc damage runs down your lower back, down your glutes and through your hamstrings. We discussed this on the phone ahead of time and she assured me she had no problem working any of those areas. Turns out that was more BS. Her idea of working your glutes is rubbing her hands the far outside of your hips, nowhere near the muscles that require massaging.
But let’s get to the massage. There wasn’t one. What I got was a series of karate chops, the kind an Asian massage place gives at the end of the massage, but this was her idea of a massage. Karate chopping your entire body over and over again. But then it got worse! I want you to imagine yourself walking up to someone to see if they are dead or alive, so you poke them, and then shove them to see if they move. This is what she did as her massage. She would poke and poke you, then put her hand on you and just wiggle the area like crazy, then she would start pushing on you like she wanted to push you off the table. WTH is that? It sure isn’t a massage. And so it went for my massage. Poking & pushing intermixed with karate chopping. I was sure someone was going to pop out with a hidden camera and shout, «SURPRISE!» It was seriously that poor. Lucky for me she finished right on the hour despite starting 10 min late. I swear I felt like walking to my car naked rather than putting my clothes on over the top of my sticky lotion body, but I didn’t.
Her prices were ok, if she had actually provided a decent massage. I decided to look at it as if I were paying to leave, which I gladly did. I would never EVER return. But to be fair, I suppose if you are in your 70’s and up, and in need of some serious extra thick lotion, then this is the place for you. I myself will look for someone who actually knows how to give a massage, because that’s not what you’ll find at The Temple.
