Called ahead to make sure they take walk-in’s– said no problem. Arrived and was treated like idiots. If you want a small, Pinterest type tattoo do not go here. Shocking a tattoo artist would be so judge mental. Sad really since I don’t judge him with tattoo’s covering his entire body. We went to Jersey Devil right down the street and was very pleased!

After waiting a mere nine years to get a side piece, I finally decided to pull the trigger. Originally, I went to an over-advertised tattoo shop in Delco and was pretty much turned away(thanks for nothing). After having my heart broken, I came to Under the Gun at the suggestion of a friend and am SO happy I did. The shop(or should I say saloon), is cleaner than clean and has the friendliest staff I’ve ever encountered. Mark Ferris does amazing work! I have been showing off my new ink to all of my friends and they are quite impressed with what he did in such a short amount of time.(PS — I brought in a picture of a tattoo that I found online and he free-handed it on me with sharpies.) Excellent staff, fair prices, clean environment — what more could you want?

This is about as perfect as it gets in the world of tattoo shops. Clean would be an understatement, this place never has a speck of dust on the floor. All the dudes that work here are laid back and not looking to nickel and dime anyone; just making an honest living. The level of professionalism is on another level, private booth-style rooms during your session and a smörgåsbord of artistic portfolios to pull inspiration for your own body art. This place really specializes in bringing in artists that excel in different areas, some guys are better at portraits, while others really nail that cartoony style of work that people look for. I’m up to 3 pieces of ink in the past 2 years and had each one inked by Mark Ferris. The guy is a creative genius, always has reasonable prices, gets the newest technology needles, plays good tunes, and is probably the most talented artist in Jersey. When it’s time for your next piece of ink, go check him out.

Quality place to get work done. Enough staff with different specialties to match whatever you need done. Also fair pricing, definitely worth going to.

Recently I went on a search for the best tattoo shop I could find to have a portrait done. I already had 6 other tats and for this particular portrait none of those other artists would do. No offense to those guys but this was something very special to me and only the best would do. I was willing to travel if need be and for this one I was NOT going to rush the process of finding exactly what I was looking for. After months of searching literally all over the country I found my way to Under The Gun, and their amazing artists. Mark Ferris ended up doing my tattoo & I can say with certainty that I have found the artist for all of my future work & I cannot recommend him & Under the Gun enough. The tattoo constantly leaves people speechless. Everywhere I go people stop me to comment on it. When I show them the picture Mark worked from they’re amazed at how he was able to match every single detail –no matter how fine. The down side to this is I have to leave a few minutes early now because everywhere I go I end up having to show it to admirers. lol. Small price to pay for such a wonderful tribute. I’ve been comparing it to the pieces presented in the various tattoo publications & there’s no doubt this is definitely in the show piece quality range. The shop itself has a saloon theme going and it’s very friendly. What really blew me away almost as much as the artists portfolios was how clean & organized the shop was. I don’t know about you, but I find cleanliness to be very important in this type of operation & Under the Gun is by far the cleanest shop I’ve EVER been to. Major star for that. I also have to comment on how professional the place is run. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a tattoo shop which means it’s a pretty cool, loose environment, but there’s also a very clear feeling that these guys have been doing this a while & know what they’re doing. That’s important because it leaves no doubt that these guys are here to stay. Whether it’s for touch up work later, an entirely new piece years down the road, or if you have a friend who loves your work so much they want to get theirs done by the same person– this place is top notch in every area. One thing that should be pointed out is that you NEED an appointment. The chances of walking in and getting some work done are slim to none. Most of the artists have a waiting list of at least a couple weeks-which is really a testament to the quality of work these guys are putting out. A couple weeks isn’t too long to wait for something that will be with you the rest of your life.

Thank you, Steve!!! I am one happy customer. I sent tattoo artist Steve Martin(not THAT Steve Martin!) two pictures for inspiration in addition to an explanation of what I wanted in the afternoon. That evening, I walked into Under the Gun to find a sketch that was EXACTLY what I had in my head. I’ll admit that I was pretty impressed with my communication skills, but mostly I was blown away by Steve’s interpretation and artistic abilities. And they didn’t stop with the sketch! The final product is gorgeous, and he even took the time to hand-mix the ink for truly unique colors. As for the shop: it’s a lot of fun. Sticking with the old west saloon theme, there’s a huge, stuffed bison head hanging on the wall, and each artist inks in his own station that allows for comfort and privacy(imagine if there were cubicles in a John Wayne movie… or, better yet, Blazing Saddles). Also important to note: the place is clean and the guys are nice. Under the Gun is definitely a place where you can get quality work done and have a good time to(cowboy) boot!
