Really solid poker room with excellent service. They are completely automated with Bravo and all tables have power for cell phone charging etc. table side drink service is quick and the food is sound and good value.

Every single time I eat something here, it’s delicious!!! All of the Asian noodle dishes are to die for and their fries are always crispy and made to perfection. Good atmosphere and good drinks too! Staff is always friendly and they even get to know you by name. Even though I am a gambler as well, I’d come here just for the food!

Ordered 12oz prime rib with asparagus, it is surprisingly good. Steak is tender and full of flavor. With my friend’s gold membership, it costs only $ 12.

LOVE THIS PLACE! Love playing poker here and ever since they got 2 – 100 spread, there is no better card room in the state. Awesome atmosphere playing table games as well. The dealers are allowed to cheer for the players and even fist bump with the excitement of a big win. I go here as often as I can.

Canterbury Park is not exactly spiffy. It has a Grimy Brown feel to it but it needs more than just a paint job. Unlike most casinos in the United States now where no limit hold’em is the main game of choice. The room at Canterbury Park still limits bets to $ 100 so there are no no limit games, as you might find in the east coast. The place generally gives an aura of being totally run down chairs are falling apart, the felt on the tables needs replacing. It’s just a run down joint. Oddly Minnesota which clearly doesn’t know what it’s doing-​compared to say Maryland and Pennsylvania-​has half its gambling here but slots at Mystic Lake. There seems to be no craps at all-​its okay for slots to rip off the public, but let’s not allow a game where someone has a chance to win. It would make more sense for poker and slots to all be at the newer facility. Be more simple than running a shuttle. Sorry I wasn’t there for racing-​but my sense is there is no longer any reason for their to be racing. If that sport had a market in Minnesota — it wouldn’t have to be subsidized by other forms of gaming. Has a good location and games are filled through the night. But the owners need to make it look better and put work in for the players; the state needs to update its game and craps rules.

Place is getting pretty dated. Went there for a business event and ate there. Food was pretty shitty but eatable. Think of Old County Buffet on a bad day.

I love this place for the live horse racing. It’s a fun and cheap place to hang out for the day. I usually don’t have a problem with the bartenders here but tonight was a different story. We were in the card room hanging out and I decided to get a drink, after about 10 minutes of standing there someone decided to help us. Instead of asking if we needed anything, she points at my boyfriend without saying anything… ummm last time I remember you don’t treat your customers that way. Maybe you shouldn’t be in the service industry.

Was a regular at this place when it opened and during its heydays [before Mystic put it out of business, and State of Mn refused to work with them on taxes so they could compete with non taxed Mystic… guess they felt no taxes better than some?].It was then THE place to be with 20k attendance on weekends. After moving from Twin Cities had a chance to revisit recently. Was pleased to see live racing has resumed and was impressed by poker room and casino, along with non smoking status. This is a place that offers a great time in a really nice facility and deserves to be supported.

I’ve never been to the horse track before. I never gambled on horses but i do know what the odds are. We came here around Labor Day and the weather was fair. Being around here though made me feel like an old time movie where you see the people dressed in suits and their Sunday bests go to enjoy the horses.
It felt nice to be there — very relaxing and the gambling was fun even though i only won like 2 bucks. I guess to win a lot you have to know what you’re doing more than i did haha.
It was a good time especially with friends.

Pretty neat! I came here for the junk bonanza and had a blast with my friend. The food options are limited to some pretty greasy stuff, but at the races and casinos that’s to be expected.
The bathrooms were pretty well maintained (not awesome but not filthy) and there was plenty of parking for the hundreds of people in attendance.
The space was comprised of two levels and was large enough to host literally thousands of people and hundreds of vendor booths. Would love to come again next year!

MN has a great horse race following. Paddock reminds me of Del Mar, nice and spacious.
Great prices on cocktails… Margaritas $ 4.50. A variety of craft beers for the aquired-​taste beer lovers. Great food choices… Ribs and coleslaw from Famous Dave’s, Fry Bread Taco, pizza by the slice.
Last night’s festivities included Indian Horse Relay… no saddles, un-​jockey sized riders. Nice to find out about an old tradition.
Placed a few bets and left a winner. We will definitely be visiting again.

Most special promotions are extremely DISORGANIZED at Cantebury. You will go to a dozen different booths/​entrances before someone that works there will knows what is really happening. I’ve attended several events with VIP coupons, Living Social, CrowdCut — All Nightmares! You need the patience of a Saint to navigate this place.

I have been to several casinos/​horse racing tracks across the country and this is certainly my favorite! My friend and I came here 3 days ago and the entire way here he talked about how nice this place was. Man, was he right.
When we approached, I was impressed by how nice the exterior of the building was. Upon entrance, we were quickly greeted and my pal signed up for a rewards card. I didn’t sign up for one because every time i gamble, I’m with him and we split the winnings/​losings.
We went to play blackjack and I was greatly impressed. It says on their website that they have the friendliest dealers in the state. I definitely agree! It adds to the experience because me and my pal always go to a table that we are alone at so we can talk to each other, so it’s nice when the dealers are friendly and talkative.
I can’t really say too much more about this place because we were in and out because the third hand we won a lot of money on Lady Luck so decided to cash out and go home with a lot more money then we came with.
We haven’t checked out the horse racing track, but that is on the agenda for our next trip in a few days! I look forward to coming back!

I am not someone who enjoys betting on races. I have gone to Canterbury throughout the years though to play poker. It is definitely my fav place to gamble besides Vegas. I learned how to play poker here. Staff is nice and I have always played with nice people. Just a great place to hang out.

Oh man. I feel like I am about to commit some kind of crime in the sub-​par review of Canterbury after seeing all of these glowing comments. I can’t describe if our experience was just certainly poor, or if we were being pinked. Better yet, is Canterbury the equivalent of some gag-​christmas gift that everyone else but me understands its a gag?
At a silent auction I «won» a table for four + buffet. We chose Friday night since obviously the menu online said «seafood buffet». Surprised that if you paid for this on your own it was $ 25 per person. Insane! The food itself was pretty bad saying it nicely. You could do all-​you-​can eat salad (brown ice berg) + suddenly salad mix + vanilla pudding. Then you got a 3 entrée card to walk through once the salmon + some kind of creamy chicken + what I think was prime rib. Needless to say I filled up on a baked potato and 2 sesame rolls and called it good.
The drinks made up for it — my girlfriend and I got the house wine — for $ 4 these came in 12 oz solo cups. Score!
The service itself was actually what bumped the stars down. From trying to reserve a table (the gal on the phone clearly had no idea what she was doing to book a table) to the four people i had to go through to get our tickets from will-​call, find our table, explain the buffet — etc — everyone seemed really friendly but horrible confused.
The betting itself was super fun! Granted the less than subpar dining experience, this is a cool way to get out of the city, do some people watching, and do some fun and inexpensive gambling in a new venue. If I ever were forced to go again — I would see if I could return the buffet meals and go for the nachos…

Canterbury Park is not like an East Coast Race Track or even one from Illinois. It is a family oriented place. Even if betting on horses is not your idea of a good time there are family activities on the weekends or you can just sit and watch the races. The purses have supposedly increased lately but I only gained back $ 2.10 per increment on my bet for a horse that Placed. Minnesota will never a be a big time racing state but that helps to keep out the sleaze that we see on East Coast and in Illinois. There are enough vendors to give some variety in food and alcohol purchases. The prices are reasonable although some of the food items are beyond bland. Watch for the special days and family fun events throughout the fairly short Mn racing season. Indoor or Outdoor grandstand seating and ample parking, (because the lot is only about 20% occupied) makes for a pleasant stress relief.
My most memorable moment: Doing small time betting I finally decided to have fun and bet a mere $ 6.00 on a long shot and she won! My take? $ 88.00.

I re-​located to the area aboutt a month ago, and I am already starting to fall in love with the poker room here. I have a good amount of live poker room experience (mostly Atlantic City, but also Las Vegas and charity poker rooms in Michigan), and as far as atmosphere here, Canterbury Park is probably my #2 poker room after The Borgata in Atlantic City (the only reason that the Borgata gets the edge is because of the number of gorgeous 20– and 30-​somethng women playing poker there… the poker players at Canterbury Park are probably 95% men).
The room is spacious, and well laid out. The registration/​poker desk is well run, and the poker dealers at Canterbury Park are the friendliest I have ever come across. I have been steadily increasing the limits, starting wtih ²⁄₄ limit and now up to ⁶⁄₁₂ limit. The play is only marginally better, and the rake starts having much less impact on your winnings startinga t 6/​12, so I recommend moving up to at least there as soon as your bankroll permits.
Play at these limits is typically your standard loos passive style, with most pots having 5 – 6 people limped pre-​flop, and 2 – 3 going down to the river. Throw in your crazy laggy folks and tight nights, and you have a diverse, and beatable, lineup. I am told that at the higher limits, there is some pretty good play (that is, players that win at the higher stakes games could win at much higher limits elsewhere), and I have heard the Omaha games get lots of action junkies.
I don’t really go during the business day, but at nights and the weekends it is always busy, but never *too* busy.
The VIP card gets you $ 1/​hr comps, no matter the stakes you play (I believe).

What’s not to love about going to the track? Slum it redneck style and soak in the sun with your favorite domestic beers. Hit the clubhouse for a table and some cocktails while you enjoy the cool air-​conditioning. Maybe you like the frantic mêlée of the grandstand and the sticky, dirty, sweaty hustle and bustle. However you choose to spend your day at the track, you’ll enjoy the experience.
When you arrive, you’d have to be Helen Keller to miss finding a parking space. The parking lot is the size of a Disneyworld parking lot… except…it’s free… yay!
Admission is $ 5 and $ 15 for the buffet in the clubhouse. I’m not a buffet person… but everyone I know that is… seems to think this is the bees knees (yea…you heard me right… I said it).
When it comes to betting… the fun part, the 3^rd floor is the place to be. It’s clean, less of a hassle, and you can have a runner take your bets at your table.
I also have to mention that they have some nice beer options since I’m not a domestic pilsner fan.
Bring the family, bring a date, or come with friends, Canterbury Park is a great time!

«That’s What She Said»
There are many reasons why people love to watch Horse racing. One is the magnificent horses that compete. The main reason; however, in my opinion, is the horses’ creative and interesting names.
This place was fun, being it was my first time here I decided to try my luck and go with the shortest jockey and the slowest horse. We’ll how’d I do? I WON! I made $ 55 US Dollars! Who said a $ 2 bet isn’t fun?
All in all the park is a fun place to kill a couple of hours and watch a sport often forgotten about unless it’s the Kentucky Derby.
Note: My only bone to pick with this joint is that they allow children. Why would you bring your 6 year old to a gambling institution. Don’t even get me started. Just plain stupid.

Betting on horses is much more exciting than playing slots!
It was an afternoon of fun for the whole family, the little kids to senior adults. Best strategy was by my brother-​in-​law who got his betting tips from his 3 yr old son who chose the horses he bet on primarily based on their names, and he won BIG!
Ton of fun. I may have lost $ 20 bucks but it was the best $ 20 bucks I spent
