Description

Specialties

We are a family owned deli and general store. Come in to try one of our great sandwiches and check out the local gifts, crafts, and homemade products that we stock in our store. Our sandwiches and salads are a mix of old favorites and some of our own creation, with names taken from the history of Shawnee and the Pocono Mountains and breakfast is served all day long.

We also sell fishing licenses (though don’t hold us accountable on the price, we are victims to the great state of Pennsylvania’s set price on fishing licenses as much as you are) and will soon be renting fishing poles. Thanks for giving us a try!

History

Established in 1859.

The general store began as an all purpose store (even complete with old-fashioned gas pumps) in 1859 and has survived in the village of Shawnee for over 150 years. There have been many owners until we purchased the business over ten years ago. Since we took over, we have expanded the deli menu, added a gift shop, and undertook renovations to ensure that our building still maintains the charm it has had during its history.

Meet the Business Owner

Theresa and Bill R.

Business Owner

We purchased the store a little over ten years ago — our first foray into owning and operating our own business. We both are from the area, I (Theresa) grew up in Shawnee and my husband Bill was born 20 minutes away, just across the river in New Jersey and were excited when we got the chance to have a bigger place in the community. Our vision for the store and the deli was to maintain everything that had kept us a part of Shawnee’s history the last century and a half, while also adding things we feel passionate about, especially the homemade and local crafts and gifts that make up our new gift shop. Chances are that you will see one of us, and probably one of our two young daughters, running around the store on any given day — so if you have any questions, please ask!
