Staff at CQ is friendly and accommodating. Their service is diligent and seems not to favor attentiveness to regulars over guests. The bar’s food menu is the pizza joint next door, which is pretty damn good. For such a small location its surprising they could fit in a shuffleboard table, several arcade games, dartboard area, and a pool table, and still have a decent amount of room for tabletops. The clientele leans toward college ages. This bar would easily be considered a dive, but it has none of the negative effects that would usually be associated with one.

Amazing service, yummy meatball sub, and killer drink specials. A whole in the wall with charm. Evan is amazing, never forgets your drink and is always friendly and accommodating. Glad to be a regular at CQ.

Close Quarters is a fun neighborhood bar that’s nowhere near my neighborhood. It’s unassuming and blends into the surrounding strip mall, but there’s always a good collection of bartenders and people in there when I go in to watch a game. I’d throw it into the dive bar category and with that it carries all of the fun qualities of a dive bar. Nice people, cheap drinks and an easy to kick back kind of spot. I’ve been a handful of times for drinks and a Chiefs game, and occasionally gone for the pizza at the neighboring and attached«Johnny C’s.» Last thing, the pizza is surprisingly good; it’s like a mix of a homemade pizza and a St. Louis style pizza.

Excellent atmosphere, pool table, shuffleboard, darts good music, cheap drinks, I’d highly recommend this bar ONLY if you’re a regular at this bar. If not things might not be so great. My girlfriend and I happened across this bar one fateful night after working late at a wedding. We arrived about 25 minutes before closing time. When ordering our drinks the bartender informed us that we only had a few minutes to finish them before they would have to take the drinks away, due to state law, a bit strange haven’t had that problem in other bars but we didn’t really care. So we took our beers over to the pool table and started a game. Few minutes past and the waitress came over to collect the beers just like they said. My girlfriend finished our game of pool with enough time for a second game. As I was racking the balls my girlfriend noticed that the only other people in the bar still had their drinks. This was well after the point ours where taken from us. it seemed this group might be regular customers, the waitress visited there table several times not ones confiscating their drinks. After witnessing the other costomers take a shot with the bartender. I decided to complain, the bartender didn’t take to kindly of this, next thing I know the bartender is yelling that he warned us that they would take the drinks and the other costomers are none of my concern(obviously not in those words with more profanities) The door man approached us and told us we should probably leave. While walking out with him we shared a short conversation about the situation, all while the bartender continued to yell profaites at my girlfriend and I. The conversation I shared with him was one that I was expecting to share with the bartender, calm collected. He showed empathy to the situation, apologize for unprofessional colleague and wished us a good night. After leaving, we drove to birdies where we were able to get another drink and even start a game of pool. Excellent atmosphere, pool table, shuffleboard, darts good music, cheap drinks, I’d highly recommend this bar to anyone that’s looking for a great time!

I was in KC on a business trip and I always try and avoid the chain type establishments because they are typically just not great for relaxing and having a cocktail and something to eat. I found this place on Unilocal and immediately felt right at home when I pulled up a stool at the bar. The service was great and so was the conversation with the other patrons. I’ll be back here the next time I’m in the area!

Let’s get a couple disclosures out of the way: 1. The owners are very dear friends of mine, and 2. I love dive bars. Still, I don’t know how you couldn’t love a place like this. This is the première place in Shawnee to watch a game, grab a cheap drink, shoot the shit or argue with somebody on a weekday night, or get totally rowdy on a weekend night. Sure, it’s in Shawnee, but it’s a couple minutes from I-35, so it’s easy to get to. They pour cheap, stiff drinks and have amazing specials every night of the week. There is usually good music playing when Evan commandeers the juke box. This place probably has more bar games than anywhere in the city: pool, darts, Golden Tee, Silver Strike, shuffleboard, touch screen and an ever changing rotation of other things like pop-a-shot, Bags, and the game where you punch something really hard. Johnny’s C pizza has better St. Louis-style pizza than any place in St. Louis and you can order it straight from the bar. The chili(available seasonally), super skinny onion rings, and Italian sausage/hamburger melt(Sabago) are also excellent. The regulars here are like a family but everyone is welcome. Evan and Andrew will remember your name and make you feel welcome. See you at CQ.
