Elite Tree Service

After a storm knocked half a tree down, I saw an Elite truck a block over. I spoke to one of the men and asked them to go take a look and leave a quote, and called it into the office to make sure they’d send someone out as soon as they could. My dad had recommended Elite, as well as a few others I talked to. About a week later, after not receiving a quote, I called and spoke with the office. They said they’d call back and let me know if someone had made it by yet. I did not get a call back or a quote, so I had to call another company. I’d heard such good things about them, too. After a storm like we had, I expected some delay, but 6 – 7 business days is a little long to wait when you have a fallen tree killing your grass.

I just had this company trim two large trees in my yard, and remove one small in the fence line. They quoted me a fair competitive price and were very professional. I was working and showed up right after they finished. They did a great job and cleaned up after themselves really well. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Several of my neighbors have used them too and they even sold a job on my street right after they finished mine.

Grossly unprofessional. Our neighbors employed Elite Tree Service to cut and remove tree limbs. At no time did a crew member come over and ask if they could drop tree limbs in our yard, they proceeded to block MY driveway for HOURS. When asked to move, all 3 workers became belligerent to the point the police had to be called. Think twice– this could happen to your neighbors!

New to the area & needed our 2 Bradford Pear trees trimmed & thinned. Got 2 other estimates from some pretty reputable tree trimming services in the area and found Elite Trees ad in the local ValuMail flyer and thought, why not support a local small business? Not only was their customer service outstanding, they were out to give us a quote a day after I called and then came out the following day to take care of our trees! The guys that came out to trim our trees were very nice and explained how they were going to cut them before they started and then asked if we were satisfied with the way the trees looked before they left. Granted, we didn’t have to be home for them to trim the trees and there were only two trees, but I was very surprised at their promptness and customer service. And to top it off, their bid was $ 200 less than one of the other major companies! We will definitely be using Elite Tree Service in the future and highly recommend them to anyone needing tree trimming services!

I used to be a fan of this business. Once upon a time they were attentive and did good work, although they were a bit pricey. Now? No.
Things started to go downhill this winter after a major snowfall broke a very large branch off of one of our trees and the branch fell over the power, telephone and cable lines coming into our house. Fortunately, he wires didn’t come down but the really huge branch was being suspended off the ground by the wires. Seems like an emergency, right? Well, not to Elite. It was days before they came out. But I understood that they were busy because ours was not the only house affected by the blizzard. Still, after days of waiting, they called me to tel me that I was going to be their FIRST CALL OF THE DAY the next morning. They didn’t show up until something like eleven o’clock. So, they either lied to me about getting here first thing in the morning or they don’t start work until a lot of people start lunch.
But because they do good work, I gave them another chance this summer. I had a tree that needed to come down and, while it wasn’t an emergency, it was pretty important as some parts of the tree were completely obstructing a sidewalk. Still, I had to wait days for them to show up. But they did and took out the tree. They said they couldn’t grind out the stump right them but they’d need to have the yard marked for buried cables, etc and that they’d have that done and be out next week. They called the people who came out to mark everything and we waited. No one came. I called. They said they’d take care of it. No one came. I called again. Much of the time when you call them no one answers, not even a machine. Sometimes the phone just rings and rings and no one answers. This happened in June of this year. It is now nearly November and they won’t return my calls, they refuse to come out and they say that they’re so busy that they haven’t even gotten their stump grinders out. The woman who answers the phone says she sympathizes with me and that Jeff, the owner, wants my cell number and he will call me right back and then he doesn’t call at all.
I know, I know. You’re asking why don’t I just find a new business to come out and take care of the stump? It’s because WE PAID THEM IN ADVANCE FOR THE REMOVAL! After they took down the tree, Elite called my wife to deal with the payment arrangements and, when it was made clear we’d want the stump removed, went ahead and charged us for that too since they were going to go ahead and remove the stump «next week.» I should probably just give up and find someone else, but it sticks in my craw that we paid in advance for a service that will neither be provided or refunded. Call me old fashioned.
So, in summary, Elite can do good, albeit expensive, work if motivated. But they will delay and delay, refuse to return calls and ignore you entirely, even if you’ve paid in advance, and months later you might still be waiting for them to do what they promised to do.
As for me, I need a new tree service.

Jeff at Elite is a jerk! Do not use these guys!!! Jeff is a bully, & trouble maker. If I could give a rating lower than one star I would. Plenty of good honest tree services to use. these guys are not good people.

We had a storm last summer take down half of one of our trees. The thing is at the very back of our yard and the fallen half came about a foot from our house, taking out our power and cable. I placed a couple calls to the power company because I figured they would need to take care of that before anyone else should work back there. After waiting 4 hours with no power company, we said screw it and called Elite to see if they would come out.
Less than an hour after we called them, Elite was at our house talking to my wife and giving her a quote. I told her to have them take care of it, and I’d be home shortly to deal with them. In the time it took me to leave Panera and drive 12 blocks, the guys from Elite had already taken care of the downed tree and were just cleaning up. There were no less than three of Elite’s vehicles around our house. I was ready to pay them the hour quote, figuring that was a minimum, but they only charged us half.
Elite provided us with the best service I have ever had in my time as a home owner. Seriously, there were so many vehicles I couldn’t get into my driveway and dudes smoking all of my lawn, but I was so amazed at the job I couldn’t have cared less.

The Bull E. Vard mansion is in a rather mature area in Overland Park. That’s a quick way of saying I have some big trees on my lot. They were beginning to look unkempt and in some cases limbs were about to reach my roof. A large portion of my backyard hadn’t seen the sun in the 5 years I’ve lived in the house.
Stella, my wife, called around for several estimates and the 3 or 4 tree companies came by and gave estimates. I wasn’t around when any of the other companies came around but I was when Jeff from Elite came by. Jeff is the owner and I happened to be outside playing ball with my daughters when he came by. He couldn’t have been nicer to my girls while he was checking out my trees. He even treated me well when I asked my stupid questions about my trees.
Elite’s estimate was the same or a little cheaper than the other companies that came by. But, we had found a coupon from Val-​pak or something for $ 50 off making Elite the winner of the Vard bid.
It took a couple of weeks for them to get over to the mansion. When they did get here they came in full force, nearly blocking the entire road. We had a truck parked in between ours and the neighbors mansions and 3 of them parked on the street. As I wrote, we have a lot of trees. The first day was spent entirely on 4 of the trees in the backyard, including the 50 year old ash tree. They must have taken out enough wood to keep Paris Hilton happy for the next 5 years. When I got home from the daily grind I saw sunshine in my backyard for the first time since I moved in.
The second day was spent cutting the 50 year old ash tree in the front yard. Once again, the job they did was just astounding, it hardly looked like the same tree.
I’ve yet to find a branch or limb that they cut off in my lawn. They were able to clean up everything (aside from wood chips). An added bonus for you ladies, the guys working the trees were topless most of the day. I didn’t think I’d ever have a topless dude smoke a heater in my backyard, but for one day I had three or four of them.
As they were leaving on the second day, one of the guys, probably a foreman, came to the door to tell me they were done. He couldn’t have been a nicer guy, we joked about how full the tree was in the backyard (thankfully no sap). I told him that I was going to let Jeff know what a great job they did. It’s not often you spend $ 800 on something and feel like you took that person to the cleaners. But, I definitely feel that way about Elite. I almost feel bad that we are only paying $ 800.
