Sonic Drive-In

An average experience at best, if we’re being totally honest.
Food:
I got the «tater tots» which I decided was a fantastic idea. I’ve also gotten the double bacon cheeseburger, which is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine: «guilty» because I’ll probably be sweating sonic juices for a week, «pleasure» because it is absolutely delightful.
Drink:
well they advertise that there is like 50 gajillimillion different drink combinations there (I made that number up) which may be true, but who has a calculator that goes that high? anyways their drinks are easy to finagle into something you’ll love, or just go with a classic drink, prices are fairly low too!
Service:
They’re either not super nice, or its this one dude named Jun who is awesome. I always tip him because he’s legit. Anyways a lot of their servers are high schoolers so I usually tip whatever change I get back plus a dollar or so.
Location:
Well since its February it was pretty cold, but I guess that’s my own fault. They aren’t super clean, and trash kind of blows around. I wish they had nicer tables too… but the parking lot is big enough and the pavement is new (super smooth). easy access and its in a desirable location.
Don’t go there if you’re in a hurry, go to a drive thru. but if you want to be in and out in 10 – 15 minutes, it’ll do in a jiff.

I stop by this sonic often, my wife and son both love limeades and it’s on my way home from work, and always during happy hour (2 – 4).
Drinks are always pretty good, and they should be that’s kinda sonics thing. I’ve been tempted to try the food and it’s mostly below average, alot of the fried food tastes bitter, and can be quite pricey for the quality you recive. For example the popcorn chicken meal is more then a 10 piece at mcdonalds and half the size, and half the «chicken» pieces are just little fried nuggets no actual chicken inside. But then again it’s all about the drinks.
My main reason for the low rating is the service. As long as I remember sonic has always been a place for good highschool kids to work part time. But this place seems to be staffed with older workers, don’t get me wrong there are still highschool kids working there, and to be honest I prefer to be served by them. The older ladies that deliver the food tend to be rude and just throw your drinks at you, which ones a cherry limeade vs strawberry? figure it out. I guess my main problem with these ladies comes with tipping, I’ll start by saying I don’t understand why it is the norm to tip someone for carrying 2 – 3 drinks 10 feet to my car. But nonetheless I give in and give a small tip. If the price is 3.78 I’ll say keep the change, I know it isn’t much, but you serve say 40 cars and they all give you that, it’s like an extra hour of work. Usally the highschool kids will give me a thanks, but the older ladies are openly annoyed I didn’t give more. Once I said keep the change and the woman had the audacity to say «it’s only 26 cents» it was a $ 1.74 purchase my only other option was to give her another dollar making it 1.26 tip on 1.74 purchase, get real. I hate the pressure of tipping for little work, especially when so rudely confronted.
Regardless I’ll be back for my wife and son’s favorite drinks. But I’ll pay with a credit card on the machine they don’t expect tips then.

Paid in cash and waitress walked away without offering me change, despite me yelling out, «HEY, I NEED CHANGE»! I wasn’t really wanting to tip $ 2 on my $ 3 drink.

Typical Sonic, but nice to have in the neighborhood. Watch for the various specials, especially their ‘happy hour’ of cheaper drinks or shakes. Sometimes, the service leaves a bit to be desired, even for a Sonic; it’s not the best one I’ve been to, but it’s also not the worst.
If you are going west on SMParkway, be sure to turn right (north) at Pflumm, and get in the left lane to turn on the first left; it comes up quick and sometimes, traffic can be dicey right there. If you miss your turn, go on up to Widmer and turn north and then east. If you are going east from 435 on SMParkway, turn left on Widmer and come around that way.

Sonic is fine. I mean, it’s nothing fancy. I usually just stop by for a drink or snack.

I only really go for the Cherry Limeaid. I actually have a check list of food and drink spots, I have to stop at while in Kansas. You guess right! This is one of them!

Look, I’m a Sonic girl. I go there everyday for their fountain drinks and have for years, so I know a good Sonic when I go to one. The one right down the street from my apartment is thankfully awesome. Probably the quickest service I’ve ever had at a Sonic, and I’ve been to too many to count.
The service is also friendlier than you’d expect, and they do 99 cent Route 44s before 11am! Never even heard of such a thing! It’s glorious. I hope they see this review and give me some free drinks, I’m so thirsty.
