Calyx Flowers

Although I have not sent flowers from Calyx in awhile, I must say that I have found them to be excellent though expensive. I’ve sent them to Manhattan and to Longboat Key, FL with no complications. The only downside I see in Calyx is the price.

I remember when Calyx & Corolla first came out – very enticing catalog – luxury prices.
Back then, I had mixed results using them, finally no longer patronizing them when the last bunch of roses I bought had been cut too early (sepals not dropped) so they could not open.
Now a friend of mine has sent me two arrangements from Calyx over the last year, so it’s not my money, but still.
Both arrangements were Dendrobium orchids (not my fave, but that’s not Calyx’s fault). Both arrived in much-​less-​than-​perfect condition despite the elaborate packaging (apparently the company has a good track record of sending replacements – sometimes repeatedly).
But here’s the corker – even if these had been perfect, they were hideous – cheap-​looking, clashing pastel pinks and yellow flowers, plus two artificially blue-​dyed ones!
If this is supposed to be the luxury end of the business, I’m running back to my local street florist and choosing 10 orchid stems at random!

Please do not order flowers from this establishment. Looking closely you will see they have changed their name from «Calyx and Corolla» to «Calyx Flowers» which should have been my tip off. However since the look of the website hadn’t changed I assumed it was the same company.
Fast forward to my disaster. I sent flowers to a client-​a very important and wealthy client I was trying to impress. Imagine by embarrassment when I received a call stating the flowers arrived dead!
Years ago I had sent many people flowers from this company and never had a problem. I relished in the fact they were not a chain and the flowers were always a bit more exotic. I had been out of the workforce for many years so hadn’t really needed to use a florist.
Well needless to say something fishy is going on here. I don’t know if the original owners sold the company and then changed the name slightly or maybe filed bankruptcy? The quality is no where near what is was a decade ago and not sure what happened.
As other reviewers have mentioned if you call up customer service they are as sweet as can be and will immediately offer to send more flowers free of charge. To add insult to injury my client who received said flowers called the company herself and refused the offer of a free shipment! Can’t say I blame them! Talking about being mortified.
Stay far away from this company. I would recommend finding a local florist via Unilocal that can make arrangements for a delivery.

A friend sent my husband and me a bouquet of flowers from Calyx Flowers, which were delivered January 9, 2015 via UPS. It was around 20 degrees F outside, but they left the flowers sitting outside the garage. Luckily we heard the truck and brought the flowers inside right away, but when we opened the box, they were frozen solid and completely destroyed. I called Calyx and they offered to send a new bouquet. Of course, the original arrangement was no longer available, so I chose a different arrangement, the Snow Plum bouquet, with lilies and orchids. I had to wait a week for the flowers to come back in stock.
When I received the new delivery, the flowers were again frozen and ruined. Once again, I called Calyx. They were very apologetic and offered to resend new flowers, this time via one day delivery. This time I chose the Snowfall White bouquet. All their white flowers were out of stock, so I had to again wait a week for delivery.
The third time was not the charm. My third arrangement arrived today, January 20. I received the wrong flowers. I was sent the Snow Plum bouquet again, not the Snowfall White bouquet. This time the flowers weren’t frozen, however, the lilies were wilted and brown. Some of the orchids were okay, so I pulled them out and made a small arrangement with them, but I’ll have to throw out the dead lilies.
It isn’t worth any more of my time dealing with this company. It appears they have an ongoing problem with flower delivery. I will just tell my friend not to order flowers from them again and I won’t either.

Well I have to start by saying we received 16 blue hydrangea last Friday as a hospitality gift. Upon arrival in this big sturdy box, I followed all instructions and as hours passed they all began to shrivel up and by Sunday morning I was throwing them away. Looking up this site and feeling badly for these flowers to go away so fast I called customer service and I have to say they were very helpful and no questions asked they offered to resend the flowers or something different. I decided to pick the peonies since the customer service gal stated that the hydrangeas were not holding up. Two days later I received 7 itty bitty peonies that were packed better than the contents. I am looking at these pitiful flowers and have to say I would never order from this company. What a crime to charge such prices for misleading content on the website. I feel really bad for the friends who sent them.

Don’t order flowers from here. My boyfriend sent me a delivery from Calyx and the flowers died within a couple days. After complaining, they sent me another delivery of the same type and they looked pretty beaten up (this was yesterday). Already 5 of the original 14 have died by today. The rest just look pathetic… for $ 100+ they should at least look decent and be able to last a few days. Their website claims to provide flowers that last 5 days longer than their competitors but they barely last a couple days. Ridiculous.
Flower deliveries from other companies never failed me in the past (and were less expensive)…this is the first, and hopefully last from Calyx. Just poor quality all around.

Terrible, terrible, terrible. After several poor experiences with ProFlowers, my fiancé has been on a hunt for the perfect bouquet of flowers to send me. «25 Years of Floral Experience», The beautiful images on site, the fact that they billed their flowers as luxury gifts and the high price point of $ 100 made him believe Calyx was a promising option. Unfortunately, this couldn’t be further from the reality. The flowers arrived smashed together looking like the sad little bouquet at the grocery store that costs $ 7 that you would still pass over, because it wasn’t worth it. You’d think that given that it’s Valentines day, and this company should know people are forking over a sizable sum, they might actually expect a product that looks like they put any effort in beyond taking yesterdays bouquets from the local Safeway and jamming them in a box and shipping them out. Absolutely awful. They made ProFlowers look like a reasonable alternative which, from my past experiences with ProFlowers, is actually quite a feat.
Don’t use these guys. Save your money. Go to a local florist. Get better flowers. And have $ 70 left from what you would have had.

While I was doing my MBA, there was a Harvard business school case study about this company. Back around 2002. «Calyx and Corolla» was the name of the company. Interesting case that was. About this independent pioneer luxury flower company… and the question was whether the company will survive in that harsh market environment. I really really liked the company back then and I really really wanted it to succeed.
Well, the company did survive. But what a DISASTER its flowers have been through the years!
I recommended this company to one of my friends once and he ordered flowers for his wife for Valentines and they came in not fresh — she almost killed him. They divorced since then.
I bought myself maybe 5 – 7 times… because I was naïve I guess. Never ever the flowers or banzai trees I ordered were perfect — not fresh or vases too small compare to the flowers or the quality of orchids not better than Home Depot.
This company makes no sense to me. I don’t think it should exist.

Okay, some developments. When the flowers arrived, they were near death. The wilted, broken blooms had to be taken out of the arrangement entirely. What remained can only be described as pathetic. –Not just late a day late and a dollar short, but dead too. By this point, I was furious.
I called customer service ready to read them the riot act. But, stunned as I am to say this, the person I spoke with (Sandy) was so helpful and so empathic, I actually felt better. I don’t know how that’s possible to tell you the truth. She listened, she apologized, she made genuine efforts to improve the situation, and she offered to personally call the recipient to apologize. She exhibited some of the best customer services skills I’ve ever seen.
Calyx needs some serious help. First, if you can’t deliver certain blooms (too delicate, too far to travel, etc.), don’t offer them. Second, stand by your guarantees. If you promise overnight delivery, get it there overnight. –You should be the ones dealing with the shipping carriers, not the customer. Third, when a transaction fails, refund the purchase amount. That’s only fair. BUT, they do have one thing going for them: Sandy. She’s a treasure. As angry as I was, she may have convinced me to try them again. Maaaybe.

If I could give 0 stars, I would! Ordered for Mother’s Day 10 days in advance and were supposed to be delivered the Friday before Mother’s Day. Well, they showed up at my Mom’s house and they were wilted and smelly and disgusting (we live in AZ and they forgot the cold pack in the packaging!). So my Mom ends up calling them and telling them and they said they can get her new ones out by Tue (2 days after Mom’s Day). When my Mom tells me this I’m upset because of course she didn’t get anything for Mother’s Day. So I call Calyx customer service and was being quite kind and got the snippiest old lady who was so rude and tried telling me that they didn’t know that the delivery was bad until I had called her just then, but THEN proceeds to tell me a new shipment is scheduled for Tue. Well how in the heck would they have not known but yet magically a new delivery is set to go out Tue. She offered mea $ 20 credit towards my next purchase. I tell her NO but I’ll need to speak to your supervisor. Supervisor proceeds to tell me that he was about to call me because the flowers are backordered and my Mom wasn’t going to get anything until FRIDAY NOW! Totally unacceptable. Said he’d gladly cancel my order and refund my $$, but won’t refund my $$ if they are still sending her flowers. So now my Mom is getting a 2^nd rated bouquet 3 days after Mother’s Day. This place is not worth it! Order from 1800 flowers or a local florist. They stink just like their flowers they delivered!

I got a voucher as well worth $ 79.95 (not including shipping). They are difficult to deal with. Emailed them but never got an email back. Flowers in the pic are beautiful, but didn’t like the service.

Worst on-​line flowers I’ve ever ordered. I got a Google Offer and thought I would try them. Many of the flowers were brown or dead. I ordered the Scent of Spring Bouquet, Extra large bouquet with signature glass vase — $ 79.95 + $ 17.99 for shipping.
I was embarrassed at the quality of the flowers for Mother’s Day.

Floral Design & Customer Service Excellence.
I have been a customer of Calyx Flowers (formerly called Calyx & Corolla) for more than 10 years, and in dozens of orders they have never disappointed. Well, actually, they did once or twice, but their response was so perfect from a customer service perspective it almost doesn’t count. Whenever I want to send special flowers, a plant to impress, a design that goes beyond the typical FTD or TeleFlora packaged bouquet, Calyx has something to delight.
I have sent many varieties of beautiful orchids, gorgeous bonsai, Gerbera Daisies, roses and bouquets of all sorts over the years and they always wow the recipient. Last fall I sent Mom «flowers in a hatbox» and she kept the hatbox on display it was such a pretty package.
Their gifts and arrangements are not inexpensive, but they are extraordinarily fresh, shipped direct from the grower by FedEx for on time delivery in all-​but bullet proof packaging. I once got some droopy daisies, and they were replaced in less than 2 days, AND my account was credited the entire amount without asking. Another minor failure by the shipping company shipping resulted in a cracked bonsai pot. When my friend called, they replaced the plant entirely and provided instructions on how to best re-​pot the original tree. Spectacular customer service in every case.
The site sorts by flower type, or by price, or by occasion for easy shopping, and maintains an address book for my frequent recipients. They are my go-​to florist extraordinaire.

Well, I am torn. I am going to give the flowers one star, but if this was a review of the customer service department, there would be more stars. Unfortunately, Calyx flowers is in the floral business and I am reviewing their flowers.
I saw their ad in the back of Maxim magazine and decided to give them a whirl. I usually go with
and not sticking to my usual was a bad mistake. I ordered a dozen red roses with a vase to be delivered on Valentines day. The roses got here at 5:00pm. Not their fault but still a bit on the late side. The roses arrived in a box with a dry sponge rubber banded to the bottom of the stems. The petals of the roses were falling off and had brown spots all over them. The leaves on the stems of the roses were wilted and falling off. These things were absolute shit. They didn’t even give me those pebble/​marble things to put in the bottom of the vase! For 86 bucks I expected a lot more.
Upon seeing these things I called customer service and without question they refunded my bill in total. The lady I talked to was apologetic and cool about the situation. I would give 5 stars to their customer service. She offered to send me new flowers, but there is no point in that because it was a Valentines present. So I got a refund no problem.
The Solution– My mom bought 14 roses from Trader Joes for $ 9.99 and they look awesome. So to avoid embarrassment my mom and I traded flowers. I got 14 awesome roses from Trader Joe’s and a refund on my shit flowers. So far, things are lookin up! From now on I swear I will only buy flowers from Trader Joe’s. I have bought them from there before and should have went back. Never again will I order flowers from the Internet.
