History

Established in 1969.

Howell Enterprise Incorporated d.b.a. Shelby Tire & Auto Service, known as Shelby Tire, has been in business since 1969, when my family began serving the City of Fraser and neighboring communities in a small Marathon service station. Now Shelby Tire has grown into a small business, serving the residents of Macomb County for over 40 years. Our goal as a company is to be the best automotive service and tire sales facility in Macomb County. By serving the community and it’s automotive needs, keeping our customers safe, and supporting the local community, along with the exceptional quality of our workforce, we expect to grow within our community.

Business Owner

In 1974, Richard married Carol and together they have 2 children, Keith and Yvette. They also have welcomed 3 Grand children. Richard started working with his father at a small gas station in 1969. He has been at this location since 1980. Richard is state licensed, has attended many A/​C Delco classes, and is MAC certified and BFS Pro certified. His hobbies include coaching swimming at L’Anse Creuse North High School, scuba diving, walking, and spending time with his wife.

If zero stars was an option I would have used it! Sent my son in for brake service quote and the guy didn’t even pull the wheel off but diagnosed he needed routers because he could see Rudy. Total crock — Truck had less than 45k miles. Took it to another shop where they actually measured and said they were in perfect condition! What a rip off this place would have been — tried to take advantage of a kid not knowing his dad worked for a brake shop in college and knew better.

LOVE them — always nice, honest, they take the time to walk me through exactly what they are seeing and explain clearly what is a problem and how soon it needs to be done. I needed new tires for my truck, and called all over town trying to beat their price. I found one (only one), place that was a hair cheaper, but not as quick or convenient. So I felt confident on their pricing too. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

I brought my vehicle in for service. I felt that I needed brakes due to the little noise the brakes make when the wear indicated chirps. I also thought perhaps my shocks and struts may need to be replaced. After Richard evaluated my vehicle, he called and said he only rotated my tires and that my brakes still had about 50% of the pads left and no leaking on shocks or struts. $ 25 later I picked up my vehicle. Richard is trustworthy and won’t provide service unnecessarily. That gives me peace of mind!

We used Shelby Tire and Auto for renting a U-​haul truck (14 ft). We called the day before we needed it to move. Richard was very nice and helpful. He answered all of our questions. He let us take the truck a full 24 hours — we didn’t need to drop it back off until 10:30 AM the next morning (not before 8 AM when they open). We had no problems at all. It was such a pleasure doing business!

This is my go-​to auto repair shop. They are reliable, honest and quick. I was referred to this place by a guy at work, and have been very pleased. The first time I brought my car (a ’96 taurus, since replaced) the engine light was on and I was just bringing in the car to have it checked out. The mechanics spent a couple hours working on it, found the problem and told me that, honestly, it wasn’t a big deal and for the year and model of the car, I could probably just live with it. I asked how much I owed for the diagnostic and labor spent checking out the problem, and the owner said not to worry about it. Their honesty in NOT fixing something which would have otherwise cost me a few hundred dollars, earned a loyal customer.
