Specialties

Founded by Toby Perlman 20 years ago, The Perlman Music Program (PMP) offers unparalleled musical training to young string players of rare and special talent. With a world-class faculty led by Itzhak Perlman and vibrant programs in Shelter Island, New York City, Florida, Vermont, and Israel, PMP is developing the future leaders of classical music within a nurturing and supportive community.

History

Established in 1994.

In 1994, Toby Perlman’s dream to educate young musicians in a richly supportive and nurturing environment became a reality with a little summer music camp based in East Hampton. Twenty years later, The Perlman Music Program (PMP) has grown into an internationally recognized year-round program attracting the best young string players in the world.

In 2000, PMP established its home on Shelter Island with the purchase of a 28-acre waterfront campus, nestled between the North and South Forks of Long Island. Our campus has become a musical oasis, where PMP welcomes the local community to experience the joys of beautiful music played by the next generation of classical music leaders.

Business Owner

«I was a young student at The Juilliard School, studying violin with Ivan Galamian and Dorothy DeLay, when I first dreamed about creating a haven for gifted pre-college age string players. I conceived of a camp for prodigy musicians that would not only give the children the training they needed to help their musical gifts blossom, but more importantly, that would allow kids to be kids.» — Toby Perlman
