She received her J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles in 1996 (Order of the Coif), where she was ranked in the top 2% of her class. While attending law school, she also studied law at Kings College in Cambridge, England and the McGill School of Law in Montréal, Canada. After graduating from law school, Ms. Marsh worked for prestigious law firms, served on various corporate Boards, and opened her own practice.

Hire Melissa. You won’t regret it.
She cuts to the chase and gets the job done. On Dec. 21st, I found out that the Franchise Tax Board had suspended my LLC. Luckily when I Googled «how to revive California LLC» I found Melissa. I wasn’t even thinking to hire a lawyer… but then 1. it’s never fun or easy dealing with the government, and 2. it was three days before Christmas. Where were my chances?
Long story short — I hired Melissa, and she had my LLC revived on Dec. 24th! Unbelievable. Now I call THAT a Christmas miracle.

We have used Melissa’s expertise on numerous occasions, and continue to go to Melissa for legal advice on regular basis. Her straightforward, «no punches pulled» advice has kept us from making costly mistakes whenever our tendency was to be overly reasonable or nice in dealing with real estate issues. Ms. Marsh is an experienced, knowledgeable attorney, and a tough lady, and someone good to have on your side.
I noticed some disappointed reviewers here, mostly complaining about Melissa being rude or impatient. It has not been our experience. Melissa may be brisk and very straightforward, but she has never been rude or unprofessional when dealing with me or my husband. I think these low reviews stem from the fact the Melissa tells you what you NEED to hear, not what you «want» to hear, and does not cuddle you when you do something stupid. It is not something that many people are accustomed to; we, however, find it exceptionally valuable to hear things as they are, not as we want them to be.
I would also highly recommend her pre-​paid consultations, which I think is genius idea. We found them exceptionally useful and of great value in many situation when a quick, timely advice was needed.

I was referred to Melissa from a friend of mine who received great assistance from her. I paid for the 30 minute consultation online and within 60 minutes received a call from Melissa. She was very knowledgeable on all the steps I needed to take in dealing with a very tense situation. I feel much better after speaking to her about what I need to do. She offered a wealth of knowledge and was very upfront with me. I appreciate that she is a straight shooter. I highly recommend her!

One reviewer said that Melissa might not be for everyone. and I would agree. She can be a bit of a pit bull. but COME ON! That’s who I want on MY side!!! She is aggressive, and smart. She knows her stuff, and if she’s not sure of something, she will tell you that she’s going to double check it. She will take the time to read and /​or listen of all your concerns and address them honestly. Her prices are more than fair. I have worked with other attorneys that have yapped on and on and charged me for every second, even when the conversation was about them. Melissa will ethically charge you, based on the time she spends on your case. I will continue to use her and refer to her. So happy I found her!

Can’t thank Melissa enough for her expertise in fixing my corporation suspension issues in breakneck speed. I’m talking days from initial email contact to resolved FTB issue.
She kicks ass. If the term ass makes you blush maybe Melissa isn’t the right fit for you; personally, I didn’t want hand holding or sympathy– I wanted a FIX, a TIMELINE and an honest PRICE POINT UPFRONT. Melissa delivered and exceeded my expectations. Actually turned out cheaper because she got some fines disregarded!
Now my corps back up and running and I’m having her review and do a proper walk through (via phone btw!- which I love because I don’t have time to drive around to meetings– I’m trying to run a business!) and not deal w/​the half-​assed and incorrect issues using something like legalzoom and such created.
Bottomline– if you have a corporation, are starting one or just need to get it up to snuff and streamlined (taking corporate minutes is just baffling), Melissas no-​nonsense approach is the best.
I couldn’t recommend her enough.

I want to start off and say, Melissa is not for everyone ! Some people can’t handle the truth and Melissa really gives it to you. If you are someone trying to conduct a business then you need to sometimes suck it up and just hear it. I appreciate her blunt sense of humor and in no way comes off offensive to me. When you are trying to run a business effectively you have no time to get emotional!
I don’t mind her aggressiveness it shows passion and character.
Melissa helped me out with a commercial tenant from hell. My first experience working with a business attorney and I have to say she is the real deal very satisfied client. She helped me save a lot of money as well. This was in 2013⁄2014

If you are working on a case against a bad landlord, for either not returning your security deposit or other reasons, Melissa is the person to see! I did the 15min telephone consultation and Melissa gave me a a ton of knowledge of what to do and how to proceed with my situation (I have a terrible landlord who is notorious for not returning security deposits, so I needed advice on how to proceed since I am moving to a new place). You can tell she is really passionate about her work and helping others. I wish I found her sooner/​started this process earlier.

This review is long overdue. I called her regarding an eviction case sometime last year because I saw she had great reviews on Unilocal.I purchased a 15 minute consultation prior to speaking with her. When I actually got to speak with her and tried to explain the situation as best i could, she rudely interrupted me by saying SHUT UP. Couldn’t believe she had the NERVE to tell her paying client to shut up.
Still, I didn’t say anything since the clock was ticking and wanted to make the best of my money.
The information she gave me was relevant, but in the end, what I needed was someone to draft an answer to my case. I didn’t even need 15 minutes of consultation and probably would have had time to spare even if she hadn’t cut me off.
I ended up calling another attorney, and he gave me a consultation for FREE with the same information. Not worth it imo. Go elsewhere, millions of attorneys out there that aren’t RUDE but still know their stuff.

I became a landlord through inheriting a property from my parents. Unfortunately, it never occurred to me that before renting to someone, I should probably consult an attorney or at least read up on being a landlord. I. Was. Wrong.
Long story short, I found Melissa here on Unilocal after realizing I had a big problem on my hands with the tenants in my house. From the first phone call, she made me feel like it would be okay. I knew I had a bumpy road ahead of me, but with her advice, I also felt confident it would work out in our favor. It did.
I am SO GLAD I listened to her and did what she suggested, even when I thought what she was telling me to do was overkill. She really, truly knows her stuff. Yes her demeanor is a little rough, but who cares? She isn’t mean, she isn’t abusive, she’s just really, really direct (and pretty funny, too). She was right when she told me that being a landlord is a business and I needed to start thinking of it that way or stop being a landlord. She was absolutely right.
As far as consults go, she went above and beyond for me. I can’t thank her enough for her help, her knowledge AND for how affordable she is.
If you’re a landlord, you should just schedule a call with her to learn if you’re doing everything correctly with regard to your tenants. You’ll be glad you did.

I called to make an appointment and ended up talking with her for 30 minutes. Now, it wasn’t 30 min of pure free legal advice but she did clear up some misconceptions I had and explain the basic course of action to take. Her docket is full so she is going to refer me to two other attorneys who are qualified to handle my particular scenario.
She’s very direct and blunt, which may be off-​putting to some, but I rather value hiring attorneys with a bit of bulldog blood in them anyway.

I have to say, not only is Ms. Marsh knowledgeable, helpful and fair… she is hilarious. I literally had a quick question, now let’s be honest, when you’re calling for legal advice there is no such thing as a «Quick Question.» She was absolutely phenomenal! She guided me through a tricky tenant/​slumlord situation and advised me on what steps I needed to take to make my case. We spoke for almost an hour whereas other attorneys charge you $ 300 to return your voicemail or text.

The day we called Melissa for a consultation, my husband and I felt a big weight lifted for the first time in a month!
Melissa is clear, knowledgeable, and passionate about teaching others about their rights and options. She is very blunt, which we love, letting you know where you messed up, and how best to protect yourself in the future. She is current on all the new laws as well. She shows a lot of compassion and is reasonable in price, and lets you know what she thinks the whole of her legal services will cost you depending on your situation. I really get that Melissa loves what she does and really makes a contribution to the world. She is also hilarious and when dealing with such negative situations, her sense of humor was so much appreciated! We are sleeping again, and feeling happy in our new home, thanks to Melissa!

Whatever rhyme or reason, people sometimes should consult with an attorney before taking or claiming to take legal action. Other than my 2 college friends that are now lawyers, I’ve never even had a conversation with one let alone reached out to one. I had a work-​related situation come up recently and I wasn’t sure if it was anything I could even pursue legal action on. After searching on Unilocal,I called Melissa’s office one morning. Didn’t know if I needed to book a consult appt for a fee or what. She pleasantly answered the phone herself — no secretary gatekeeper or voicemail box that was never checked. Melissa asked the basic details of what occurred and was very direct that I had no case. It was nothing even worth pursuing, which is exactly what I needed to know. She helped explain to me the law and why that was the case. She spent 15 mins of her morning talking to someone that wasn’t even a client and based on what I was telling her, wasn’t going to be. That is what I call exceptional service! I now know that when I do need to retain the services of an attorney whom I’ll be calling. Thank you, Melissa!
