Don’t trust the reviews here — they’re written by friends of Tanya Porter in exchange for favors. Tanya ruined the condition of my hair, putting highlights on top of highlights, and yet more highlights, month after month, until it all turned a hideous orange color. I only wish I had sought out a second opinion sooner, rather than trusting her to fix it. She also uses a terrible method of extensions, attaching them in such a way that they’re falling out after only a couple of weeks so you keep having to go back to fix them, spending yet more money on her services. To make matters worse, if you have wavy or curly hair her blowouts are horrendous and your hair will frizz in no time. She is technically inept as a hairdresser, doesn’t stand behind her work, and quite dishonest. Her sense of color is also totally off — for confirmation of that, just take a look at the almost-​fluorescent red color of her own hair and decide if that’s a flattering shade on anyone. It doesn’t help that her one-​person salon is tiny, poorly lit without any natural light, and with walls painted a very dark color; it’s impossible for her to do achieve an accurate color in there, even if she knew how to. This is the first bad review I have ever posted about a business, but I feel compelled to warn other people. Do yourself a favor — stay away; there are so many good hairdressers in L.A., I only wish I had found one of them sooner.

Amazing is not enough to describe my experience with Tanya.
Let me start by saying, I moved to la from Orange County and have been commuting back and forth to get my hair done ever since. It would become such a big stress the fact that anytime I wanted a cut or a color touch up I had to drive over an hour, sometimes in horrible traffic and then drive all the way back. I finally decided it was time to find someone out here.
Thus I found Tanya!
I had of course read her reviews on here first and was impressed by all the positive feedback so I thought what the hell! I called her up Sunday night and was able to make an appointment the next day.
The building was easy to find and has plenty of parking (I believe they do valet on certain days also). When I reached her room we sat down and she helped me decipher exactly what I wanted… I can kinda be very scatter brained when it comes to explaining exactly what I want… I told her «I want red, but not too red, kinda like Christina Hendricks… But not, but still similar– but I might go blonde after… so something that’s an easy transition, ooooor maybe I’ll go blonde now! Or not… Strawberry blonde? Red? What do u think?» She took my cluster of ideas and turned it into a beautiful result, the most natural and vibrant color of red ever. And the cut was perfect exactly what I wanted, I hate when my hair looks like I just got it cut, I always need a plethora of layers and she made sure to check and see it was how I wanted at the end… I will definitely be back for all of my hair adventures from here on out!

In a nutshell, Tanya is awesome. She recently gave me a Brazilian blowout and hallelujah… no more frizz and hair is finally manageable. One detail worth mentioning is I used to get Keratin treatments with my old stylist (pre-​Tanya). Even though my hair is considered healthy, the ends always just looked so ragged after the treatment. Without me even mentioning this to Tanya, when she gave me the Brazilian blowout, her technique of not entirely treating the ends themselves causes the hair to lay beautifully. Nicely done Tanya! She also has a keen eye for color. After years as a solid brunette, she added a touch of warm sun to my locks to give me that honey kissed look. This girl knows her stuff!

Tanya Porter is the BEST! She is a genius with cut and color and I’m a person who is ALWAYS changing my hair. Tanya is excellent at taking my flimsy descriptions of what I want and turning them into the perfect result. She is clearly avid about staying educated and up on current techniques of cut and color. I love the quiet and private setting of the Salon. It is so comfortable! Also, I hired Tanya to do the hair for my bridesmaids and myself for my wedding. We were so beautiful! Thank you Tanya, you adorable little genius!

I was calling around and looking for a hairstylist that is open late. Based on the reviews I decided to give Tanya a call around 9pm she was warm and friendly. She gave me the best haircut, she uses the best products, and is easy to talk to. I highly recommend her. Her prices are great. The location is very nice. Glad I found her :)

So you want a stylist who is a genius at color and can do fantastic cuts and blow outs too? If you are reading this now, THIS is your lucky day. Tanya is superb at color, especially red! I have brown hair and she can work the color so well in brown that I really sometimes cannot believe just how good she is. And I have seen her blondes and they look amazing as well. It’s been over 8 years and she has never once disapointed me. This is a class act who is gifted beyond your dreams. Prepare to be amazed!!!

I’ve been going to Tanya for a year now and am in love with my hair. As a working woman, getting into the salon can be so tough, needing to book an appointment months in advance. Tanya offers great hours, past the standard 9 – 7, so it’s great getting in after work and rush hour and being pampered in her exclusive salon. The Brazilian blow out is phenomenal here, leaving my locks glossy and healthy. I am obsessed with her coloring. She always takes such care to give me the prettiest, natural color and when it inevitably fades, it still looks beautiful and never gets brassy. She’s also taught me a lot about keeping my hair moisturized and my hair’s health has dramatically improved over this year. Great girl, great location, great hair! After all these years of trying to figure out what to do with my mane, I finally love my hair!

I have been going to Tanya for years for my haircuts. She is the only stylist I’ve been to that I totally trust. She listens to what you want and does not get trigger happy with the scissors like many other stylists I’ve been to. Plus, she’s super nice and easy going. Conisistently great cuts and good service — what more can a girl ask for?
