The Painted Plate

Fun place. Great management. Always steps up for Sherwood and the children of Sherwood.

One stars because the facility is super nice and some of the employees are friendly, but overall I would NEVER recommend this place as a place to take your family to paint pottery. The owner spends a lot of time there, but she is unfriendly and has generally always made me feel like I am interrupting her. If you show up with two hours of closing time you will be rushed and in some cases, they won’t even let you start a project at all. The Painted Plate (TPP) is a bit pricier than some of the other Pottery places around the area but they have a decent selection of items.
These customer «service» events have happened all three times that I have gone to TPP. So why do I keep going back, I actually have not gone back as a customer only as a birthday party guest. Thier birthday parties are cute and well organized, although they are a little weird about making a mess or using too much paint. So a second star for parties overall.
There are plenty of places to paint pottery around the area so there is really no reason to go to TPP, but if you live nearby and want to have a birthday party here it is a good option, otherwise I would go somewhere else.

The experiences here have not been very good. Each time the group I was with felt rushed and felt we were dealing with helicopter service.
Towards the end of one of our visits I was a little late in choosing what I wanted to paint, which wouldn’t have mattered as far as the company I was with (my wife, her sisters and all their children) because I only live a couple of blocks away. But as I began to set up my spot, I was practically discouraged from doing something because the rest oft group was almost done.
It also seemed that for a place that is geared towards a family experience, the attitude towards the young children was not one I appreciated. Painting can get a little messy, and standing over the parents shoulders while they are trying to help keep wasted paint at a minimum, and the children’s attention focused is not a great way to keep the parent focused on making sure everyone is having a good time.
Last note, the selection is pretty uninspired and very lacking. Mostly tiles, mugs, platters and random knick-​knacks which now have odd rules in order to even use them.

My kid and I enjoy the art and atmosphere! The staff is very helpful and sincere as well!

Great place to hang out and paint. Tamera the owner is great and so is the rest of her staff. It’s a great place to create.

My review is based solely on the party I had for my daughter at painted plate. Our party had a mix of 4 – 12 year olds, both boys and girls. They all seemed to have a good time. We had two people to assist the kids but we still needed help from the parents so it really isn’t the ideal «drop-​off» party. I would recommend 1 adult per 2 children. The space is beautiful and spacious for a party. However, if you have a rambunctious crew or want to do other «party activities» I would not recommend. The painting takes a good hour so the kiddos should not get bored. the last half hour can be spent opening gifts and having cake. You must bring your own food and decoration supplies. The price is reasonable, street parking is easy. Staff is well trained to work with kids and they seem organized. Another cute option is to add a party plate to commemorate your special party where each guest creates a finger paint character along with their name. The shop itself looks amazing. Lots of fun and practical things to create. I plan on bringing my kids back during the summer to make some fantastic creations!
