History

Established in 1980.

They started with «nothing.»

Mike Lee remembers his decision to go into the feed and western supply business well. It was 1980 and the Tuolumne County agriculture teacher and his wife Sue opted for change — big change. They found a need in a small community called Shingle Springs.

«We borrowed a little seed money and put our heart and soul into it,» Mike, 62, recalled.

They also put in 14-hour days, building the small business opened in part of what is now the Shingle Springs Post Office. The 4,600-square-foot store contained «a little splash of tack, clothing, pet supplies, vet supplies,» Mike said, with a feed barn in the back. The store had a small wood stove behind the counter — its only source of heat — and while Mike and Sue worked the front, their children Jeff (then 8) and Cori (then 4) slept in the back.

«When we first opened the store we didn’t have a house,» Mike said. «We were living in a hotel in Placerville.»

A lot has changed in 31 years.

Business Owner

Family moved to the area back in 1980. Have continously lived in the area since, maybe a couple of offramps up or down from the store. Graduated from ponderosa high in 1989. Graduate from Sacramento State with a bachelors degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing.

Married to Tegan Lee and have a couple of boys Jordan and Devon. We both work at the store and bounce in between both of our locations.
