Cheap stiff drinks, sushi was barely edible. I felt like these were yesterday’s left overs. Bartender was sweet and attentive however I would never order sushi here!

This is for their 3 skewer trio. Shrimp is ok. Beef and chicken were dry and tough. Stick to their sushi.

Last week one of my friends and I were having a girl’s night out and we decided to go to the Red Crane for dinner and to enjoy the Blues Bash that was going on… a little dinner, a little dancing… sounds fun, right? We had been there once before for cocktails and dancing but this time we were ready to enjoy the full experience they had to offer. Despite what others have said in their reviews I feel I should mention right at the front that on both nights we were there there WAS Happy Hour Cocktails(there is even a photo of the HH cocktail menu posted on Unilocal) as well as 4 waitresses working the restaurant that I saw. The Red Crane Steak & Sushi Café is located above Hollywood Casino, you can take the elevator or the stairs and avoid the Casino, its noises and that crowd. And there is absolutely no smell of tobacco in the air(I don’t know if they’re even allowed to smoke in the casino but it is one of my impressions of casinos, all that yucky smoke). You cannot hear the people, machines or noises from below as opposed to most Casino restaurants where you have to maneuver your way through the crowds and cigarette smoke to get to the restaurant and then it still feels like you are in a casino. The Red Crane Steak & Sushi Café feels like it’s own venue. The only time we are reminded that we are at a casino is when we pull into the parking lot and approach the main doors. The décor in the café is cute with signed autographs and movie posters covering the walls, a stage for the bands that come in, the expected tables and chairs you’d want at any restaurant, a full bar, a large, private room that can be opened up to the main floor to accommodate more people or easy access to the dance floor, and lovely lounging couches along the walls with coffee tables for food, drinks, etc. We prefer the couches, they are comfortable yet firm so it is not difficult to stand up from. They no longer reserve seating on Blues Night but I think they do for other nights of the week. And on Blues Night, the place is packed to capacity(table wise), and many people love to dance on the dance floor, but it is not overly crowded like at some bars you might go to… so if it is Blues Night, show up early! I have a rather sensitive palate, I find things spicy most people won’t even blink at. I explained this to the waitress and asked for her recommendation. She told me the Kobi Steak had more of a sweet sauce than a spicy one. I asked her if it was possible to taste the sauce before ordering. She brought me a little plastic cup of it(more than I needed for a taste) and I gave it a go. It was definately delicious and if I could handle a little kick at the back-end I would have ordered it. My girlfriend tried the sauce too and ended up ordering that steak. I played it safe with the tempura dipped cod with chips… the cod was fresh not frozen(I asked) and local(I asked). I am not usually a fish person and I never eat sushi so this seemed my safest bet on the menu. And I got to tell you, it was delicious. The fish was extremely moist and delicious, practically falling apart in my hands. The tempura batter was sweet, crispy & golden, absolutely fried to perfection. My girlfriend«loved, loved, loved» her Kobi steak. Her dish was beautiful and we both commented that we should have brought our camera phones so we could take photos of our meals for reviewing. Next time, I promise I will get pictures of the steak, cod, dessert and cocktails! Anyways, after dinner we ordered two AMAZING tiramisu desserts and it was heaven on our tongues. It really was the best tiramisu I’ve had outside of Italy. I would go again just for the tiramisu! And then it was time for cocktails, music and dancing… I was looking at the drink menu for what I had ordered before because it was mouth-wateringly delicious… I mean, a total orgasm in a martini glass. I thought for sure that I would recognize it on the menu as I did not remember what it was, but none of the descriptions popped out at me. So I walked over to the bar and explained to the bartender that I had been there just a month earlier and had this fabulous cocktail… unfortunately the bartender was new but she did know who to ask… Tami, an adorable Asian waitress with long blonde braids. Tami asked me, «is it creamy?» and I said I thought so. I knew it was fruity. She told the bartender what I wanted then came to me and told me what I wanted was the Creamsicle Martini. One question and she knew the answer! She was very sweet and helpful and even triple checked if it was the right drink and was I enjoying it. And YES, YES, I was. We had a great night and an amazing meal with incredible food, drinks and music. I gave this restaurant 4 out of 5 simply because I have no idea about the sushi portion of the menu and cannot comment upon it. We will go again even if it is just for the Amazing food.

We have been coming here off and on for about the last 12 years, but never thought to review it. It’s a good option for a quiet dinner and a beer. It’s also a fair option for breakfast. Happy hour is a good value(4:00 to 7:00 possibly every day — certainly every weekday and Saturday, not sure about Sunday.) They have some happy hour sushi rolls, and the appetizers are half off. The rolls are OK, and the appetizers are good. Not the best I’ve ever had, but good enough. They also change up some of the options on the regular menu once per month, and they have a daily bento box, which is also a good choice. They have several beers on tap. They had Lucille IPA for quite some time, but there was always something a off about it — perhaps improper storage or the lines needed to be cleaned, or the keg was old — but for whatever reason it was below average. They recently replaced it with the Goose Island IPA, which did have a good nose and tasted fresh. We shall see how it holds up. They used to have happy hour cocktails, some of which were pretty good. Since they did away with those, we haven’t done cocktails there. We typically eat in the upstairs bar, which is usually dead. This is surprising, as with a little promotion this could be a great space for good bands or a good DJ. The service up here is generally pretty good, but at times we’ve had to wait if there is only one server/bartender working. The collection of movie posters and memorabilia is extraordinary. The service is generally pretty good. I suspect the casino generates enough food turnover to maintain the good food quality. We have been in for breakfast several times, which is served in the downstairs bar/casino. Again, the food is surprisingly good(thought the juice is bar juice, not fresh). The removed the breakfast burrito from the menu, which is disappointing. There is usually one server taking care of the bar and the casino floor, so the service suffers a bit. So: Service: Generally good, sometimes spotty Food: Good Cleanliness: Good Atmosphere/Liveliness: Dead in the(upstairs) bar. Restaurant usually a little busier. Beer: spotty Cocktails: unknown

I know a lot of people when they hear ‘casino’ they can only think of the negative effects(gambling, money, losing, etc). But most wouldn’t guess that casino food is delicious! Hollywood casino is not your high end casino, but the food at(Red Crane) in the casino is legit. My hubby and I usually come here for Happy Hour — daily 4−7pm; 10pm-130am, for their SUSHIROLLS.(HH also includes appetizers in the regular menu ). Definitely comparable to other sushi restaurants(better than those conveyer belt sushi restaurants) and reasonably priced during HH(ranges from $ 5 – 6.50 for rolls, and $ 7-$ 9 for Sashimi). My favorite rolls to usually order is Spicy Crunchy Shrimp, Seattle, & Shoreline. As far as appetizers to get, must try the ‘Asian Nachos’. Yes, I know the name is like… what the. ASIAN nachos?! But its delicious, and takes a nice spin of the classic nachos by incorporating chicken, shallots, scallions, etc on crispy fried wontons. Just try! Take out is also a option, sometimes the wait during rush/dinner time can result in waiting up to 30 – 40 minutes sushi.

This is a wonderful fusion restaurant in Shoreline. What could be considered«hidden» within the Club Hollywood casino, above the gambling floor, nestled amongst movie memorabilia from the past 90 years, lies the small sushi bar of Red Crane. Delicious, fresh nigiri and sashimi, delectable sushi rolls. And that’s just one page of the menu. They also server an eclectic selection of other Asian and Western Dishes. With extremely reasonable prices, $ 40 for 25 pieces of sashimi, $ 8 for sushi rolls that fill a plate, you will not regret coming here for lunch, dinner or happy hour.
