John and Deb’s Place

What a gem of a place! Historic building in a historic town. Lovely room with thoughtful amenities. Fantastic breakfast. Best of all are John and Deb who are the perfect hosts. Next time we will be sure to add dinner and time at the spa to our stay. A big thank you to John and Deb for making our stay so nice.

Prepare to be pampered. Relax with the finest of everything. I would love to keep this place my own secret, but I am sharing so others can enjoy it too. The beds are fabulous and the owners make sure you have everything you need. If you are trying to find a beautiful place to stay, look no farther. Make sure to add on a dinner. These two can cook! We are never disappointed. Gem of Shullsburg!

John and Deb opened this amazing Bed and Breakfast 2yrs ago in an old bank. This place is a must stay your treated like kings and queens. The homemade breakfast was amazing!

What a gem! My spouse and I were looking for a relaxing getaway, and found that, and more at John and Deb’s Place.
Located in historic, downtown Shullsburg, this elegant B&B is unique. With just two rooms, one of which can extend into a suite for families, you will get very personal attention. The motto, «Prepare to be pampered» came true for us.
We were greeted by both Deb and John, who were excited to welcome us. After a tour of the entire premises, I got ready for my massage. My spouse relaxed, eagerly waiting next in line. Deb is an expert masseuse, one of the best ever. After my massage, I retreated to the soaking tub while my spouse enjoyed Deb’s expertise.
Since this was a relaxation retreat, we remained in room, stretched out on the ultra comfortable King bed. The room has 18 foot ceilings, giving the space a magnificent feel.
We enjoyed the wine provided (they even located an alcohol free version for me, the non– drinker!) as we awaited our in room dinner.
The meal was perfection… four courses, each better than the last. Hot and creamy artichoke dip with home made garlic sourdough bread, salad with Deb’s special dressing, moist and perfectly prepared Chicken Parm and garlic smashed potatoes, topped off with a tantalizing cheesecake, again made by Deb. The dip and chicken were John’s creations, so it’s a real partnership. They serve in chef’s jackets with great grace and humor.
The next morning a full pot of decafe coffee was outside our door early, since we are early risers. Breakfast awaits, and it will be just as spectacular, we are certain.
This B&B is an undiscovered jem, a short hour and a half drive from Madison. If you want a real get away. Check it out!
