History
Established in 2000.
Sierra Vista is a community of nearly 40,000, sitting in a high valley or Mesa, surrounded by several mountain ranges, and located about 70 miles southeast of Tucson. Our altitude of over 4500 feet allows us to boast temperatures several degrees cooler than more well known Arizona cities like Tucson or Phoenix. Sierra Vista is a growing city, which provides most of the comforts of larger cities but preserves some of the small town, Old West flavor. The principle industry is the U.S. Army’s Fort Huachuca, headquarters for both Army Communications and Army Intelligence. Sierra Vista is located in Cochise County, conveniently near the towns of Bisbee and Tombstone (home of the legendary Wyatt Earp, the OK Corral and Boot Hill). The Mexican border lies 26 miles to the south and the newly opened Kartchner Caverns lies to the north. The U.S. Forest Service maintains National Forest areas in the Huachuca Mountains, which are great for hiking, as well as the Coronado National Monument and the
