Signal Hill Police Department

I just graduated from the Citizen’s Police Academy (Class #12) and really appreciate all the work police have to do. In several instances, I noticed how they can spot things going on in two or more directions at the same time. They have to constantly make split second decisions. And somehow, they have to keep their lives separated from their careers. Hats off to you, especially Sgt. Cravens and Officer Brown. And thank you for a most enjoyable Academy!

I went there this morning for their open house and got a brief tour of the facilities. The building is beautiful and has only been open for two years. Everything still looks brand new. I had seen the police chief and other officers on the local government access station at council meetings, so it was neat to see them in person.
In addition to meeting the police chief (and his lovely wife), I saw the mayor, met with some volunteers, the Red Cross, the LA County Fire Department, volunteer HAM operators, a veterans group, and a very nice gentleman from the California Highway Patrol with his two Explorers.
I was given a lesson by a very nice firefighter on how the firetruck worked (very cool). Someone honked the horn and scared the bajeezus out of everyone. They had multiple vehicles parked and unlocked so you could see what the inside of a police car looked like. There were a bunch of weapons out including one that weighed 30 lbs (I can’t even imagine trying to carry that around). They also had this huge, mobile response vehicle with a bunch of computer screens (like the kind you see in movies) that was streaming CNN and had WiFi.
The conference rooms were very clean and comfortable. Everything looked so tidy. They had a gym filled with very nice equipment that didn’t look like it got much use. I think they have an indoor shooting range, but I didn’t get to see it.
I had no idea that they had 15 holding cells there. One of the rooms had a spongy floor and the officer explained that was «the drunk tank.» They also had one cell specifically for ladies (because they can’t house them in the same room as the men, apparently).
They really catered to the kids by handing out stickers and hot dogs and letting them climb in and out of the cars. I’m proud that these guys and gals are out there protecting our community. I see them patrolling all the time. It was just a great experience to get out, tour the facility, and shake hands with some really nice, friendly folks. Keep up the good work SHPD!

Signal Hill PD really strives to keep Signal Hill safe and clear of any thing negative that can be happening around the area.
Ride for four hours and it felt like 1!
Recommend doing ride alongs here especially if it’s for school projects!

Our neighbor called the police on us for disturbance from our side of the wall. Knocking, he said, that would mimick his knock back to him. He said it had been going on for a few months. We had only lived there for a month and a half and the night he called the police, we weren’t even home. Officer Bob came to investigate. He was pleasantly courteous, sociable, and funny. He didn’t find anything… not even the ghost who was bothering our crazy neighbor.
Another officer came to our door last week to inform us of someone opening our complex and other complex’s mailboxes and stealing the content. Glad they’re investigating that. Another pleasant officer of SHPD.

One Signal Hill cop in an SUV police car sits in the parking lot of Champs deli clocking traffic headed west on Willow. Catches speeders all day long. A real money maker which I don’t mind because people go so fast on Willow but this morning when the cop pulled over his latest victim he blocked the driveway into the parking lot at Howards Appliance so all the employees who have to be at work in that complex at 8 am had to go up, and make a very unsafe u turn to get into the lot. I decided to ask the officer why he did not just pull up one more foot, which he had plenty of room to do, so that we could make a safe turn (especially since it is illegal to block a driveway, and you know that anyone else would have been cited). His response was rude, arrogant and he said it was my problem and someone had to be inconvienced. I am a 60 year old tax paying, law abiding citizen and I have never incountered a poorer representation of a civil servant in all of my life. He works for me and I pay his salary. But it was obvious with this guy that he believes he is above the law. My son always tells me cops are pricks. I have tried to teach him to respect our men and women in uniform. It is guys like this that give Signal Hill law inforcement a bad name. You know who you are officer. A little bit of humility goes a long way, but after our encounter I would bet humility is not part of the uniform.

City of Signal Hill: Signal Hill Police Department is strictly a PROFIT CENTER that TARGETS TAX PAYING CITIZENS for the most ridiculous violations. I got an infraction this morning on my way to work for NOT STOPPING IN FRONT OF THE WHITE LINE AT THE STOP SIGN. What? Don’t you all have better things to do than to hide in the bushes waiting for someone to slip up so that you can write a citation and collect $$ — which is clearly all you are about. I’ve heard many stories about this force, but I’m seeing this first hand and they are bullying their citizens. Is there a community organization that can put this manufactured force in check for things like this? I wish Long Beach would take this area over — they are way more legit than these dorks.

Signal Hill Police Dept is actually pretty good. A thief broke into our garage, and they caught the guy and returned our stuff in less than half a day. Very professional, and much appreciated by us responsible, hard-​working, and law-​abiding citizens.

Everyone that lives in Long Beach or Lakewood knows if you ever cross the boundary lines into Signal Hill… chances are high you will get a traffic citation for almost anything.
No warnings, just sign here and pay them. It’s not an «Urban Legend». It’s the truth. Their police department loves to write tickets since they are a small city within Long Beach.
Officer Ronald Sagmit # 40101(now an Administrative Lieutenant) was pretty much a «dick» the entire time he wrote me up for a non working brake light on 1 side of my vehicle.
Again, not for speeding, reckless driving, illegal lane change, stop sign, road rage, cell phone, etc.
It was for a brake light. Seriously. What is going on here??? How am I suppose to know it just died out one day? Again… a ticket for a non-​working brake light!!!
No courtesy warning? Not from Signal Hill PD. They gotta write tickets because that’s how they roll. I’m not making this up.
They are well known to patrol & hide on Willow & Orange to catch speeders coming down the hill from Orange and from Willow. Easy on the gas pedals people.
I’m pretty sure they also hide out on other parts of Signal Hill too.
There’s other stories, but the same experience overall.
Signal Hill Police Department can go smell an elephant’s butt hole.
