It features contemporary art from local artists and hosts alternative venues and performance events as well as monthly art openings and exhibitions. It seeks to represent emerging outsider, outlaw, outside-the-loop, out-of-the-woodwork, one-of-a-kind, one-at-a-time, underdog and under-the-radar startling art. Under recognized painting, sculpture, mixed-media assemblage and collage are highlighted in a small town community atmosphere brimming with a big heart of creative endeavors.»
History
Established in 2009.
Reconceived in Silver City’s local artist and legendary Harry Benjamin’s 100 sq.ft. pottery adobe in 2008… the name aSPACE was conceived in a french café by this author in 1990 on a postcard in paris and originally was an architectural collaboration in portland, oregon to the power of two.. It referenced the space between two buildings or the crack in the sidewalk or the white space between the words… the void between the solid, the negative space… the overlooked grassroots in a sea of status quo… the david vs. goliath.

Business Owner
Born in Spokane, WA, grew up in Great Falls, MT, Bachelor’s of Architecture @ Montana State University, lived in Portland, OR, Taos, NM, Silver City, NM as a designer /builder, draftsperson, graphic designer, carpenter, stone mason, and mosaic artisan. Has three children, two sons, 16 and 13 and a daughter 7.
In 2004, received an incomplete spinal cord injury from a treefall. After
rehabilitation created various custom tile mosaics, taught art for 7th and 8th graders before turning to art full time. Offered a free small studio space by a local living legend and Silver City artist for a year, he revamped his artistic career yet again at the age of 46 and followed with his first solo show in 2008 of collages and mixed-media assemblage sculptures. Quickly outgrowing the small adobe studio, he relocated in 2009 to a 4000 s.f. warehouse where he currently works, features local artists and operates a) sp.“A“e: Studio/Art/Gallery.
