History

Established in 2014.

Jara and Sean are the co-founders of CrossFit Inner Loop. Sean, an active duty Air Force officer, began CrossFitting during a deployment to Afghanistan, and couldn’t stop talking to Jara about it. Upon his return and certification, he began coaching her at home. She had just had her third child, and although was a lifelong athlete, personal fitness had become secondary to raising her kids. CrossFit was an immediate match for her. For a brief time Jara considered returning to the workforce as lawyer, instead of pursuing her passion in coaching. When she shared their decision to open CrossFit Inner Loop with a CrossFit friend, who also happens to be an interventional cardiologist, he replied «you will help save more lives than I ever could.» As a Critical Care Physician in the United States Air Force, Sean has had the honor of caring for our wounded warriors during transport from Iraq and Afghanistan to Germany, and hopes to continue serving our combat wounded at CrossFit Inner Loop.

Business Owner

Sean MacDermott, cofounder of CFIL, was introduced to CrossFit in 2008 and became hooked during a deployment to Afghanistan where he found it to be a great way to relieve stress and achieve a superior level of fitness. As a Critical Care Physician in the United States Air Force, Sean has had the honor of caring for our wounded warriors during transport from Iraq and Afghanistan to Germany and the US. In the past, he has helped our wounded veterans continue on their path to recovery through volunteer coaching at CrossFit Walter Reed. He hopes to continue to share CrossFit with our combat wounded at CF Inner Loop.

Sean’s athletic background includes high school football, wrestling and rugby as well as four years of rowing at the University of Pennsylvania. After college he developed a passion for backpacking and rock climbing. He counts Jim Barker, Neil Buckley, Stan Bergman and his brother Kevin among the coaches who have influenced his approach to training and coaching.
