Derrick and Darrens Barbershop

My hubby needed a cut so I Unilocaled and we got Derrick. Parking was easy, we walked in and we were greeted by Derrick with a warm welcome. We also met Tony one of the other barbers who was getting his cut by Derrick… so I knew my honey bunches was is good hands. Derrick pays attention to detail which is great, I like how he stands back and looks at his work to correct any errors while perfecting his craft with each cut. We had great conversation and shared a few laughs… we will definitely be returning customers!

I’m new to the DMV and, as many would know, finding a GREAT barber in a new place is usually difficult. I mean, anyone can have clippers and do a quick cut but most lack quality and the passion in what they do. Overall, I had a great experience and can definitely say that I’ve found a barber who can cut and is in a great shop!
When I walked in, I was greeted immediately. Vernon, my barber, introduced himself and welcomed me to the shop. I was asked what I wanted done but I left it up to Vernon after little consultation. I’m thoroughly pleased with the results!
After the cut, Vernon introduced me to the owner, Derrick. I watched Derrick cut a client while I was in the chair. Both barbers are great and highly skilled in their craft!
If you’re looking for a place with great customer service, friendly atmosphere, and barbers who really know what they are doing, give this barber shop a try. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

Had the worst experience here at this barbershop today. The barber clearly was very discriminatory against non African Americans. I waited patiently until it was my turn to get a cut and when it was my turn to get a haircut, the barber looked at me and told an African American customer who came in 20 mins after me to come up. Clearly, I was not welcome there.

By far the best barber shop experience. Experienced barbers with good vibes. Would recommend it to everyone.

I have no complaints! Derrick, the Owner, cuts my son’s hair and he does an excellent job each time. In the past, I use to HATE sitting in the barber shop waiting on my son but Derrick’s shop is clean, inviting and chill. My son has been going to him for years and will continue to go to him for years to come. I definitely recommend this shop for anyone that is looking for a great, professional, clean, and relaxed shop.

I have been going to Derrick and Darren’s barber shop for many years. The shop is customer friendly for kids and women as well. Derrick cuts my hair and I have always left the shop flawless. My coworkers always give me compliments on how sharp my shape ups are. I have recently brought over 4 new customers to Derrick because they like his work. All of the barbers are friendly as well as the young lady hair stylist. This shop is like a big family. Everyone gets greeted as soon as they walk in the door. I would recommend this shop for any and everyone.

Decided to try out a new barber based on the recommendation of Unilocal Reviewers and a friend that used to frequent the shop when he lived in the area. Moved to the DMV area about 4 years ago and currently reside in Bethesda. Was loyal to another local barber until reoccurring incidents made me leave.
Called this shop Saturday right before closing time to make an appointment for Sunday morning prior to church service. Derrick answered, was pleasant and gave me an appointment without hesitation. The shop was easy for my GPS to find (near Wheaton Plaza), ample off street parking, clean, cozy, and pleasant. Derrick remembered our phone conversation and took my son immediately. Did a phenomenal job and I couldn’t be more pleased. My 11 year old son even loved his hair cut and he doesn’t really care for the upkeep of his hair.
I am a single mother of one. The norm is usually for the father or man of the house to take the son to the barber but in my situation, his father lives 2 hours away so it’s my responsibility to maintain his outer appearance. I say this to say, the shop was homely (females would understand that Lol), had a beautiful fish tank and inviting. I didn’t feel uneasy in the shop and the music was not that rap cursing style that you would hear in some but more mellow R&B. I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for a new barber and will be making another appointment in 2 weeks. We have found our new home.

I started going to Derrick and Darren’s when I moved here in 1998. While my work requires I travel and for a while I moved out of the area, every time I go to see Derrick for a haircut I am greeted warmly no matter how much time has passed. Derrick is a professional who clearly takes pride in his business, his family and his service. I have never had a bad haircut (every haircut is on point) and now that I am back in the region, I will be going back. You will not be disappointed.

This is my favorite barbershop and my go-​to. I’ve been coming here for years, ever since they were renting a couple of chairs from a beauty salon nearby. If I am in a hurry and don’t want to wait for one of my usual guys, I never hesitate to let whoever is available take care of me. The workmanship is always good, shop is clean, and the talk is your old faithful barbershop chatter.

The barbershop is very clean and everyone seems to be very friendly when you walk in. I made an appointment and didn’t have to wait long to be seen.
I am very particular about my haircut if I’m going to pay almost $ 30 for a haircut. I will have to say that my haircut was subpar even after I stated exactly what I wanted. I did’t complain at the time, because I don’t think it could of been rectified. I’m not sure if everyone in the shop cuts the same. Overall, it is very clean and friendly.

Great Service. Great Cuts. Need I say more. Price is a little on the upside, but I can say you get what you pay for.
What I like most (other than the cuts/​customer service itself) is the atmpshpere. It is really clean and there isn’t anyone just loitering around the shop for no particular reason. While these type of things never bothered me growing up, once I started to bring my son to barbershops for his haircuts, these factors made a world of difference!

I finally found found a great barbershop in the DC area. It’s a little drive for me living in Northeast DC, but it’s well worth it. The guys were super friendly and they stayed open past business hours to serve customers. The shop was super clean and you can tell they take pride in their work. If I could post pics of my son’s haircut I would.

I’ve had some very subpar haircuts in MD and DC before, and last week I was dreading trying to track down a good barber shop. I miraculously found Derrick and Darren’s Barbershop-​which is just down the road from my apartment-​on Unilocal and was impressed enough by the positive reviews to give them a try. The cut was great. Ramon, the barber who cut my hair, did exactly what I wanted and gave me A+ fade, clean and exact, just to my liking. If you’re looking for a great cut from friendly guys, and at a very reasonable price, check Derrick and Darren’s out. Just remember, this is a cash-​only place.

This is a very nice place to get a great haircut. The place is clean and appealing to the eyes. The barbers are courteous and care about their work. I walked in today for the first time without an appointment, and there was not a wait. Derrick was friendly, and the whole place had a very nice family feel. It was clear that they care deeply about the customer combined with deep knowledge of their trade. It is, by far, one of the best places I have visited for a haircut. Highly recommended!

In every man’s life, there’s hard decisions to be made that could shape-​up (no pun intended) how men perceive ourselves, and how others perceives them as a man. I was faced with one of those life decisions when I came to the Silver Spring area: finding a new barber. I think that I can attest for a good majority of men on Unilocal that a good barber is hard to find based on your overall preferences. A barber can make you feel like a million bucks, or make you feel like a Bernie Madoff on the way to a 150 year prison sentence for owing millions. Well, you get my drift.
I decided to cut to the chase and make a visit to Derrick and Darren’s in the Wheaton area. This barbershop is located in near some other stores in a small strip, where a public, coin-​operated parking lot resides. Upon my first visit to D&D, I called them up and spoke with Derrick, the owner. I told him the appointment time requested and what I would be getting. Once I got there, I was ready for the inaugural haircut. Derrick and Darren’s Barbershop has been around since the mid ‘90s and is still going strong. The layout consists of a wide-​screen television, four barber chairs, a couple snack machines, and a fish tank. I threw the fish tank in there just because.
After the first cut, I’ll say that I was pretty impressed. Honestly, the haircut was one of the best I have ever received. After my first visit, I wanted to go around the Silver Spring area and try out other barbers, but I realized that I didn’t need to. After the second and third cuts, my decision was clear: Derrick and Darren’s is the way to go for the future. Each time I make an appointment, I am in the chair in reasonable time (no more than 10 minutes tops) and the quality of the haircut is great. Derrick takes his time and makes sure you are satisfied in the end without the need of rushing. I’m glad I made the choice to D&Ds first.
One more thing, the owner is a Redskins fan, so I do feel sorry for him. I have already sent him my condolences.
