Matt is both skilled and honest — two traits you definitely want in a mechanic. I will only buy Volvos from now on so that I can always have Matt as my mechanic.

I had a very good experience at Expert Volvo repair. The gentleman was very professional and the service was prompt. I feel that the pricing is excellent and that «M» is a very honest mechanic. Been now twice to Expert with my new (previously owned) Volvo S80. Excellent and timely service, honest assessment, fair price. Matt does not oversell and provides upcoming service requirements for the car. With each visit, I have been confident that he has been over the whole car.
You know you’re in the right place when you see a circa mid 60’s Volvo 122 (think black British taxi), it was getting Expert service along with all the others, Matt’s team has that level of expertise. Volvo owners, we need to pass the word to others, this is a great shop, they spend time to explain to the customer.
Expert Volvo location is over a mile off of Georgia Avenue. There is Ride On bus service with a bus shelter across the street from the shop, bus goes to Silver Spring transit center.

Everything people have said about Matt is correct. Our 2004 Volvo v50 (173K miles) failed to start after a stop at the MD welcome center on our way to visit our daughter in Silver Spring. Roadside assistance was able to jump it and we got to Silver Spring, but it remained dead even after we installed a new battery. We had it towed to Expert Volvo. He looked at it quickly even though he had many other customers. After a few hours of work, he determined that it needed to be tested by the special computers that typically only dealers have. He charged us ZERO for his labor — when have you heard that? He was correct. We needed a new transmission control module.
I hope to avoid further problems with the car, but I’d happily return to Expert Volvo if I need something looked at.

The guys installed a hitch that I provided. The job was done quickly and well for a good price. And, they kept me informed when there was s change in process and price. Will go back.

Matt at Expert Volvo saved us! We were on our way to a wedding in Virginia when we ran into car trouble on the highway. I found this place via Unilocal and Matt was super helpful. He checked out our car, found us replacement parts, installed them, took it for a test drive, and we were back on the road within an hour! Could have been a disaster. Very friendly and fairly priced. I have been taking my Volvo to expert Volvo for over a year now. Matt has been taking care of my car and I wish I found him earlier. I have honestly never trusted someone with my car this much. I have a 1996 Volvo that has needed quite a bit of TLC and boy did Matt deliver.
Matt was able to undo all of the damage that a crook of a mechanic did when I first bought the car.

Had my Volvo V50 towed here after reading all of the other great reviews. I called early in the week and spoke to Matt, who asked a few questions and gave pricing and an overview of next steps. By phone he was careful about over-​committing his time and said that he might not be able to get to my car for another day or two but noted that the earlier I had it towed in, the sooner he could begin work. He quickly resolved my car’s issues and delivered sooner than expected. AND, unlike some places, he called back as soon as the work was done. Will definitely come back for future work!

I have to tell you, I was astounded by the totally honest service provided by Matt. He was completely upfront and honest with me about my car and told me that it was not worth working on. What mechanic does that?

I spoke with Matt on the telephone regarding my 1998 Volvo S70 with a broken air conditioner evaporator. He provided excellent, detailed information and an estimate on the spot. He was thoughtful and spoke to me like you’d hope from a trusted friend. I might end up selling this car rather than fixing it, but he also offers pre-​purchase inspections on used Volvos for $ 100. He gets the highest possible recommendation for telephone customer service.

If you own a Volvo and need any work done, Matt is your guy. He’s knowledgable and won’t try and jerk you around — like others have said, I’m always untrusting of mechanics. Bottom line: it’s a one-​man-​show, but he knows what he’s doing and always delivers on-​time and on-​estimate. And his prices for parts and labor are usually 20% below what the dealers charge since he doesn’t have the overhead costs. It’s almost too good to be true, but really just means you were probably over-​paying by going elsewhere. Problem solved – I’m never going anywhere else.
Quality work – they can do routine maintenance or just about anything else. I trust this place and will return.
Location is a bit tricky if you are not familiar with the area, but you will see 4 – 5 Volvos in a small parking lot out front… and probably two more in the bay.
Because it is a small place, make sure you set up an appointment a few days in advance. He can turn even a 75k maintenance job in a single day, which is faster than some of the bigger guys. Common Volvo parts are kept on-​hand, so no long delays while you wait for parts to arrive.

I am always very leery of Mechanics. Being a female, I never really know if my mechanic is going to pump up the bill or whether they will actually fix the problem. There is absolutely no reason to feel this way at Expert Volvo Repair. This mechanic shop is FANTASTIC. [I don’t say that lightly about car shops] The technician that worked on my car was Matt. I brought my car to him when my breaks were squeaking and my ac wasn’t working properly.
He calmly took my car in and evaluated it and with in minutes he was able to tell me exactly what was wrong and gave me what I thought was a pretty decent rate. He explained the breakdown in price and I never once felt he was taking advantage of my lack of knowledge! I was able to have it fixed immediately. Matt made me feel completely comfortable and I knew I was in safe hands. They have a client for life!

Took me three years to find this place and I am happy I did.
Joseph has been in business since 1960, knows and loves Volvos inside and out and is a proper mechanic — not like the kids at the dealer who only know how to order parts and spend your hard earned $. Basically he services the car for half what the dealer charges you.
Obviously very convenient if you are in the Bethesda /​Chevy Chase /​Silver Spring area, but frankl;y I would drive across the river for this guy too.
