Jamachi Plastic Surgery & Medi-Spa

Through Groupon, I went for lower legs and underarm from Oct 2013 to March 2014. You get 6 sessions. The first 3 sessions were great with going to one person. She was pleasant and very thorough. For the fourth to last sessions, I had a different person each time. On my 5^th & last session, they had to reschedule me twice due to first laser machine down, so they said. The last few sessions felt rushed. After couple of months, my underarm hair grew back with finer hair which you still can see. I expected to have no visible hair at all. As for my legs, the hair in some spots grew back, so I find my self plucking them out. I’ve had laser hair removal in the past on my bikini area with a dermatologist office and it worked successfully.

I had similar experience as Alexandra. I got almost zero result after 6 treatments and felt like the machine was not on during the first 4 treatments. I did hair laser hair removal treatments before and I know how it supposed to feel and the result you are supposed to have. I feel like it was a waste of money and time. After expressing my concerns for many times the tech suggested my to buy a second package for the price of Groupon deal, but I decided that I do not trust it enough to waste another 6 months.

I went to Jamachi with a Groupon for laser hair removal on my chin area. After my first visit, there was still hair present as if I didn’t just go in for a treatment. I found it weird that they didn’t offer me a mirror to look at the results after she was done but I shrugged it off and decided just to check when I got outside into my car. When I saw it, I immediately called them and told them that hair was still present and if I could come back in to have it done over. They informed me that it takes a few treatments for the hair to not be visible? I found that off, but for it to be my first treatment I went along.
The second treatment was better and all the hair was gone after I left. Not for good though, which was what I expected. I thought by 4 – 5 I would see little to no hair but that wasn’t the case and at the 6^th appointment I knew that I wasted my money. The treatments were not consistent. I would say 2 out of the 6 were done 100%. The other four were a waste of time and I feel it was done purposely so that you have to come back. I already didn’t have a lot of hair to be removed but it was annoying to deal with so I thought this would be a good complete fix or at least make plucking easier but it didn’t.
The staff are nice. The environment seemed clean. I wouldn’t recommend it for laser though.

I honestly do feel badly giving Jamachi such a comparatively low score, because I do believe that the spa is attractive and well-​maintained and that the technicians are friendly. Unfortunately, though, I did not find their laser treatment to be all that successful, and since I have had laser hair removal before and know that it works for my body, I had much higher expectations than what they could deliver.
I went in with a Groupon for six laser hair removal treatments on my lower leg, and to be honest a not-​so-​small part of me wonders whether they may have kept the power of the laser lower than usual for me so that I would have to come back more times in order to actually see the results I expected.
For the first four sessions I had the same technician every time, and while she was funny I hardly even felt anything from the laser… and the pay-​off seemed to match that lack of any pain whatsoever. For the final two treatments, I had a different technician and she actually turned up the juice in my final treatment to the point where it did hurt, but it also FINALLY started to work. Unfortunately, by that point I had already decided I wouldn’t be spending any more money at this business, but if she had been giving me treatment like that sooner than my final visit, things might have been very different.
I usually did not have much of a wait, but I also made all my appointments first thing in the morning on Saturdays, so I imagine that wasn’t a very popular time. I would advise it for anyone hoping to get in and out of there quickly! The one time I did make a weeknight appointment, I was there for well over an hour, which was not very fun. But at least the space they provided for me to wait was pretty relaxing.
In short, there were definitely some merits to Jamachi, but not enough to keep me coming back for what would normally be a very expensive treatment. On my budget, if I’m gonna drop that much cash, I had better be 100% certain that I’m going to get effectiveness to match.

3.5 stars Not as bad as I thought. I have been here twice for a Groupon laser hair removal deal on my lower legs and so far it has worked and I don’t have to shave as much. The only things is there is always a bit of wait time on the phone and in the office and sometimes the people can be a little snoody.
I also felt a little bit of pain from the LSR device, but it was only temporarily and it did not leave any marks or after pain. She lowered the power and it felt a bit better.
I have not done anything else at this spa and not sure I would if I didn’t have a groupon. Plus I don’t really do mani-​pedis, facials, or spa stuff in general.
But, would recommend it for LSR.

The laser tech is personable but I’m upset at having to wait 40 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. Grrrr

I bought a Groupon for laser hair removal. The first appointment went fine. And before I left I scheduled my next appointment for 3 weeks later. I came in for my next treatment at the scheduled day and time. I walked in and waited 15 minutes before any of the staff acknowledged my presence. Then I told the receptionist I was here for my appointment. She looked on the computer and could not find my name or my appointment details. I was a bit pissed off but I agreed to reschedule. I then asked when the next appointment for laser was available, the receptionist told me that both laser machines were down and needed to be serviced and and that a technician was supposed to be coming out next week but she couldn’t tell me exactly when the lasers will be back up and running. By this point I was done. I told them I’d think about coming back but I won’t be. I got a refund from Groupon and I would not recommend this place. This staff is not efficient nor particularly welcoming and I would’ve appreciated a call to tell me that they weren’t able to keep my appointment instead of me having to waste my time driving there to find out.

Went in for a pedicure because I had a gift card. The pedicure was okay but the massage was soft and quick. I would not go back to this place for a Signature Spa Pedicure for $ 48. too expensive and not worth it. Location is great but too pricey.

I have very mixed feelings about Jamachi. It’s the holidays and I’m feeling charitable, so I’m going with 3.5 stars for the staff. For the spa itself, definitely 2 stars.
I had very limited time to get a pedicure last weekend and this spa is steps from my job. They had a specials board outside that the champagne pedi was $ 30. I looked it up online and that normally goes for $ 60 so despite the dismal reviews, I decided to check it out for myself.
I called around 9 a.m. and Elizabeth answered the phone. I was surprised (due to the bad reviews) that she was warm and friendly. I asked if they had a lunchtime appointment that day for just the champagne pedicure and she said April could see me at noon. When I arrived, Elizabeth again was very welcoming and had a big smile. The only annoying thing, which I don’t blame her for, is that you have to fill out an intake form even for just a pedi.
I think April is a pretty good tech and she was nice to talk to during the pedi. She offered me something to drink before she began and asked how my day was going. She also took her time during the pedi and I was able to really relax since it took almost an hour.
So why the low rating? In spite of the great staff, Jamachi just doesn’t live up to the «spa» name. If I had paid full price for the champagne pedi, I would feel totally gyped. The products used seemed to come straight from Marshall’s. And call me a lush but if it’s called a champagne pedicure, I should get some to drink!
The mani/​pedi area is in the reception lobby and separated only by a curtain so you hear everyone coming in/​out and chatting. They have Essie and OPI polishes but they’re old and outdated. In fact, the first was OPI bottle I picked up had turned solid. Overall, the nail area just looked shabby and it’s clear that Jamachi provides nail services as an afterthought.

I completely agree with A.D. below. i am guessing we had the same masseur, because I too fell victim to being slicked down with enough oil to fill a drum and creeped out. I ventured to this place for spa week, thinking it was close to home and could be fun. Um, think again! As soon as I entered, I was disappointed. The receptionists barely acknowledged me until I went up and announced my presence and stated I was there for my appointment. I was then signaled to wait in one of the two uncomfortable, plastic chairs up front. As I sat, I saw there was some fruit (oddly displayed and covered in saran wrap) and a tin of Danish cookies. I figured I would help myself. Bad idea. The fruit was mushy and the cookies were hard as rock.
I was eventually taken to the back to begin my massage. The room was very bare, the table was cold, and the music was odd. The masseur did not ask me anything about my massage preferences before he began. He then proceeded to slick me down with so much oil I was actually sliding out of my shoes once I left. It also did not smell very good. (I am guessing this was because he used the geranium oil instead of the chocolate — he did not even ask which I preferred before he began.)
He went through my massage barely getting any pressure points then uncermoniously told me my hour was up, and left the room. Once I was out, he mentioned, «Do you want tea, or water, or to go pay up front?» What? That does not even make sense…
I would definitely NOT recommend this spa. Caveat emptor (buyer beware).

Great place to go for a mani/​pedi. They have a huge range of services and staff is very friendly!

I had cosmetic procedure here. They staff was very nice and helpful. The doctor was very helpful and answered all my questions. After my procedure, I wish there was more assistance there and another room where I could lay down before leaving. All in all, the staff was help and nice. My procedure was worth it, I like the results.

Great massage by Nmaku. But they were late for my appointment with no explanation or apology. Atmosphere somewhat unprofessional. They do not provide individual towels, robes, slippers or lockers for those having spa services. Now, I could understand if their prices were cheaper.

I just recently went there and I’d say the service was mediocre. The scheduling process as one other reviewer stated was a nightmare. My friend and I were going together and wanted to go at the same time… they called an hour before the appointment time to say hey we can’t do both at once can one of you come an hour later… Huhhh? We come to a spa to relax not be bombarded with those problems. Anyways we deal with it… we requested female therapists. i got a man… my friend insisted when she have a woman when she got there and did. I didn’t have that option. First off. the waiting area isn’t very spa like especially after going to say a red door or another spa of that nature… they had like news tv or something on a tv… it wasn’t very nice… anyways…I wasn’t even offered water or anything. like nothing… I saw a little table with a k-​cup machine and some water fountains but no usual spa set up… the room itself was pretty small… no changing areas with robes so you change in the little room… I was very uncomfortable with the man rubbing all over me honestly… I felt like he was being sloppy and rushing thru certain parts too .oh and he never even asked was his pressure ok or if there were certain trouble areas. just went in for the kill… I know they use oils when massaging but my goodness I think he dumped the whole bottle on me… my skin felt gross… there were hardwood floors and his clunky dress shoes were not AT ALL relaxing… the music being played wasn’t soothing it was like jazz or carribean throughout… he asked a little too many questions throughout… there was no aromatherapy or nice smell in the room at all so I missed that… the table was cold… it would have been nice to have heated tables… overall i would not go back between the scheduling mix up and the lack of «perks» …I’ll continue elsewhere.

Jamachi is a wonderful spa located in the heart of downtown Silver Spring, Md. To be honest I was pulled into the spa because I had to have a torn ear-​lobe repaired and the plastic surgeon on the premises, Dr. Onyewu came recommend by my family physician. Dr. Onyewu is part of a loving full service practice; and this love and full service extends to the Jamachi Spa. I have since received several treatments there from botox to massage. All of my treatments have been professionally delivered and everyone is always very courteous. The staff goes out of their way to accommodate my impossibly busy schedule and when you enter the office a variety of delicious refreshments are always available. I have severe muscle tension and Joel has been a wonderful find. However, there are men or women available to your preference. The spa also runs specials and are competitive with other spas in the area so if you are patronizing someplace like Massage Envy where you are rushed when you can get an appointment and mostly unable to make a appoinment and subject to crazy cancellation policies, I definitely recommend giving Jamachi a try. Why put up with all that crazy unprofessionalism when you can go to someplace that has competitive pricing and where they will treat you with curtsey and respect and take their time? And let me say again, where there is an actual board surgeon on hand. So give them a try, I’m sure you will have a good experience. In my opinion they’re worth better than the rating they have here. I hate to say this, but I can’t really recommend this spa. They apparently just remodelled — and in fact were closed the first time I tried to book. I made appointments finally for a massage and pedicure. The morning of my appointments, I got a call that they could not do the pedicure. I went anyway, because I had taken the day off. When I went in, it still looked under construction and the lobby just felt dirty — literally, leaves from the street littered the floor and the furniture looked like 70’s office leftovers. I’m really not a snob usually, but to put it lightly, it really wasn’t inviting or relaxing at all.
The massage room was much nicer and I relaxed a little — warm, nicely lit, I put the reception area experience out of my mind. The massage started wonderfully — the table was heated and I’ve never had a massage therapist begin by washing my feet, massaging them with lotion and putting on socks. That was WONDERFUL having come in from the cold. However, the rest of the massage was not so great. Actually, I felt manhandled when I left. Instead of long, smooth strokes, it felt like she was giving me a locker-​room rub-​down. I literally was in more pain when I left then when I came in and it took me two days to turn my neck without pain. True, when she asked if it was OK, I did not give my critique there on the table, so the blame is not all with the therapist, but overall, I can’t say I had a great experience.

This spa is STILL CLOSED. I had purchased a Groupon almost a year ago, and each time I try to make an appointment, they answer «Trendz Rejuvination Spa», but am told they are closed. What is the deal with this place???

I really wanted to like this place, but I cannot recommend it. Their prices are maybe 10−15% cheaper than what I’ve seen elsewhere, but it is not worth the 30−40% lower quality of service. My «spa pedicure» was just like a regular pedicure, though quite a bit pricier, and the technician just seemed in a hurry to leave. The massage therapist was actually pretty good, but the table was wobbly (not soothing), and the room was too small for her to maneuver around the table easily. So, if you’re looking for a pedicure or massage, this is not the place to go.

I also came here for Spa Week and had the chocolate head to toe massage. I was a little skeptical on having a massage because I had one previously at another spa a couple of years ago and did not like it, but I figured for the price… how bad can it be? This massage was absolutely wonderful. The person that I had, Emmanuel, was wonderful with his hands and found the tension spots in my shoulders and neck. He focused extra attention here because of that. The atmosphere was very welcoming and wasn’t uptight like that of other spas. I also received a coupon for $ 20 off my next service and the referral card for 3 friends. I am looking forward to hopefully going back before the next spa week to use the $ 20 off coupon and then again for the Fall Spa Week.

Came here to partake in Spa Week specials. Went with a friend to get their Geranium Sage full body massage. This was actually my first full body massage, so I don’t have much to compare to (aside from a cream bath with scalp, shoulder, and arm massage I got in Indonesia), but I was very pleased with my experience. I definitely came out feeling less tense in the neck and shoulder area. My masseuse was very sweet and was always asking to be sure the pressure was alright. Upon leaving, my friend and I both did receive coupons for our next visit as well as referral cards… if you refer 3 friends and they schedule an appointment, you receive a free spa service with the purchase of another. Again, not having much to compare to, I thought this place was pretty great. It was a pretty small place but the entire staff were very welcoming and I also had no problems getting an appointment. Now if only spa week happened more often, maybe I’d be able to afford more frequent trips to the spa!
oh… and fyi they extended their spa week specials another week!
