I went back there this weekend with some friends, When we arrived(30 mins ahead of our reservation) we we’re made to wait. 15 mins wouldn’t be a problem, but unfortunately we waited for over an hour. Prior to waiting several people went ahead of us. One group who just came in jumped right in front and was given a seat in the habachi section, when I went over to ask why are we still waiting the MANAGER told us to give him 5 more minutes… needless to say my group and myself included left after that. This experience was terrible and I most likely will not be returning. I advise anybody else who goes, go on weekdays or just don’t go at all.

So we are use to Benihanna so comparing the two it’s good, certainly better than Shakura. The drinks are strong but good. I can’t believe I had to ask for more juice. lol Overall it was good until I received the bill. They added gratuity but we had personally gave the chef $ 20 but they added $ 18.00. I think I will stick with Benihanna.

I went out with a group of friends. One friend ordered shrimp and steak hibachi. The shrimp was overcooked, and the noodles didn’t have much flavor. Another friend ordered fried rice and a salad with ginger dressing which was fine. I ordered a Philadelphia, and Rainbow roll which was pretty good! When we first sat down the waiter was very attentive as the dinner went on the waiter disappeared. We waited about 20 – 30 minutes after we completed our meal for the waiter to bring us our check. What was most frustrating was the fact that he had already brought a box for leftovers, and started to clear the table. We had to get up and track him down so that we were able to leave. As we were celebrating a birthday we ordered drinks. Everyone was able to order a drink except for me. I have a vertical, Virginia license, that indicates that I’m 23, and doesn’t expire until 2020. I was denied a drink simply because they don’t except vertical licenses — «house rules.» This is a government issued ID, wait staff and management should have the skills to decipher whether the ID Is valid or not. What made it worse was when I asked to speak to the manager, he was rude, demeaning, and walked away DURING our conversation. As the manager I believe that he should have been friendly, apologized for the inconvenience as this is their rule and/or offer a complimentary soda or tea instead. In addition, it would’ve been great if this policy was posted so that customers could take know this policy when deciding which restaurant to eat at. I did not not have this option as we had already ordered our food. I would not recommend this restaurant as they did not have good customer service, or stellar food.

Welp… This is quite an unfortunate review. Let’s start with the pros. The atmosphere was lively, certainly diverse which is a true representation of the lovely silver spring area. My husband and I sat at the bar and the bartenders were attentive and kind. These are all very wonderful things. The drinks weren’t terrible, around average… 3 stars. Overall the vibe is good. We’ve got okay drinks, the bar has a decent TV set up, and its nice and busy. Where did things go wrong? Hibachi time. Overall the hibachi experience was decent. There wasn’t much of a presentation, but it’s generally a worthy sacrifice if the food is delicious. In this case, it wasn’t delicious. The flavors were average, maybe slightly above. But hey, I had great company and more than edible food, so I was willing to consider this a nice time out at a 3.5 star joint! That was until I was speaking to my dear friend and noticed something crawling on the wall.(Anytime you see something crawling at a restaurant and it’s not in a fish tank, it’s a bad sign). I calmly bring my company’s attention to the roach crawling on the wall. I’m grossed out, but I’m a girl born and raised in Brooklyn. I can handle one roach. While I’m not okay with there being roaches at a restaurant, I’m astute enough to know that living in a major city will include some undesirable critters in some restaurants. My attitude however changed when I saw ANOTHER roach climbing on the wall. Dude, we have a serious problem now. Knowing there could possibly be insects versus seeing it scurry along right before your eyes is a bit too real even for me. At this point I’m convinced that roaches are being incorporated in our fried rice. It took me less than an hour to take notice of a roach problem… Who knows what else is going on behind the main dining area. This is unacceptable. I informed the manager, not to make a fuss, but to essentially say that there is an issue. He informed us that they have an exterminator come in often, but the neighboring restaurants must not uphold to their same standard. Fair enough. All I can say is, Masa is honestly not worthy of my or anyone’s patronage. There are far too many other establishments in SS that are more than capable of concealing their insect problems better so that I can eat my meals in peace. Sheesh. But, on a serious note, maybe eating at home is best.

They need a bigger bar area. I had to share a table with someone else who was already eating. people where standing around waiting for folks to get up. I suggest the expand the HH to the area that was virtually empty till after HH ended. the food is great, I had the taco sushi which is very different. it is a seafood salad like mixture on a Pringle chip. the HH drink price are great $ 5 a glass. I had some rolls to that was good. I do hope they get some help as the bar staff was overwhelmed it seem since there was so many people. It isn’t that big and has 4 tables for the hibachi side. I would go back as their menu is very large too.

Stopped here for dinner on Saturday evening with the kiddo and husband. They had us wait about 15 minutes to get enough butts for a hibachi table. Our service was great, waiter brought kids chopsticks for the 2 at the table, chef was fun and engaging, as always the kiddo loved the show. Food was tasty, is it great hibachi? No, I’ve had better, but it’s good. We were seated next to the bar so I saw all the sushi leaving it and The sushi that I saw looked great and I’d probably come back for that sometime. Drinks were really great too, place seems to become a more bar atmosphere later and the bartenders are good. Both of my martinis were delicious.

I really wanted to like this Japanese Steakhouse, but the food quality is average at best. Service was not all that good either. «I’ll have a bloody mary.» «We no have.» Then the waitress asks the bartender and returns. «…yes we have…» «can you add a shot of Kettle One vodka?» «ok» $ 15.50 for a bloody mary.

Wandered around this little area of Silver Spring looking for a dinner spot and decided on Sushi. Masa exceeded our hopes and expectations! Rolls 7, 8, and 16 were our choices for the night and can I say Yummy!

My favorite Hitbatchi spot in the DMV! They give you so much food for the price is wonderful! I like the fact that you don’t have to sit at the hibachi table to get hibachi food. The bartenders, servers, and host are all great. I really enjoy coming to this spot!

I am not a fan of hibachi generally speaking. I think it’s almost always bland. Fire does not entertain me that much. That said, the hibachi here is not significantly better or worse than anything else I’ve eaten. That said, I come here to drink and eat sushi, especially during happy hour. To be clear, I think their regular prices are fair and do visit for regular dinners and the like. However, Masa has the best happy hour in town, hands down! Five dollar cocktails that pack a punch, and a 2 dollar top shelf upgrade if you so choose. There are also a number of food options for decent prices under 10 dollars. Plus on Sunday, they have an all day happy hour. The sushi here is pretty good, though not the best in the area(I give that distinction to Sushi Jin). However, Sushi Jin’s alcohol selection leaves a lot to be desired so Masa gets my money more frequently. On Thursday, they have buy one get one sushi rolls. I am usually happy to pay full price for their sushi, but BOGO sushi is is even better, especially with a 5 dollar cocktail. The service complaints I am seeing in the reviews have not been consistent with my many visits here. I almost always receive prompt service every time I visit and have never had an order completed incorrectly. You get the fastest service when you sit at the regular bar or sushi bar.

I came here for my 21st and had the best time ever. I could have stayed there all night. The hibachi was on point as well as every sushi roll I ordered. The service was exceptional and I got a sake shot to the mouth from our chef! Such a good time

Everything was delicious. If you haven’t tried Hibachi style dining I recommend this place. The service was fun and the food was great. Everything was reasonably priced. My only complaint is that there were not free refills on the soft drinks. And this was not printed on the menu. I don’t mind paying for the refills when I know up front when I order. But it feels rude to inform us after we’ve ordered, and received multiple refills for our group that we have to pay for them. Would we go back? Absolutely!

Decent food at a decent price. They have happy hour all day Sundays which is nice. Nothing memorable but everyone was friendly and food wasn’t bad. My server was Zoey and she was fantastic. She even poured my soy sauce and opened my chopsticks!- which had earned her a nice tip and the 4* for this place

This was an amazing experience. The show was fun and the food was great! I had the hibachi combo — shrimp and scallops. My sister, who came with me, had sushi rolls: salmon, red dragon, and shrimp. It was my first time eating scallops, but I was assured by my sister that they were cooked well. I was surprised how much I liked them, the shrimp was delish also. Felt like fine dining without the price tag, including my beverage it was $ 30 and change. Would recommend anyone!

Went on a Sunday as soon as they opened(12:30) to indulge in the all day happy hour. Service was pretty nonexistent, food was delicious. I loved the pomegranate margarita($ 5.00 on the happy hour menu) and the fried calamari was really good. Will most likely come back again.

I really had high hopes for Masa, especially since I had read some positive reviews about the restaurant before visiting, but I was sadly disappointed. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner before a movie. We both love hibachi and when we realized it was walking distance to the movie theater, we decided to check it out! When we walked in there were several staff members at the hostess station. We were asked if we wanted to sit at the sushi bar, the dining area, or the hibachi table. We opted for the sushi bar. We sat down, and after about ten minutes, our waitress dropped by and gave us two waters. She then disappeared again before we had to flag her down to place our orders. I usually ask our wait staff for their recommendations, and this time was no different. I was told that I should order the shrimp and scallop hibachi meal. Done and done. I ordered that and my boyfriend ordered the chicken and steak hibachi meal as well as an order of sushi(I forget what kind), but it was very good. He also ordered a pomegranate margarita, which he said was ok. When our entrees came out, they were incredibly small portions. I think had we sat at the hibachi table, we would have gotten more food. It honestly threw me off! Like… I was expecting much more food. The taste of the food was ok overall, but given the pricetag and reviews, I was expecting much more. That, coupled with the laissez faire service, contributed to this solid two star review.

The prices for their hibachi are very decent. With that said I’ve had way waaaaay better. Our server had to be new or something because never in my life have I been served a salad and soup(that comes with your standard hibachi meal) when I still had a menu in my hand and had yet to even take off my coat and order drinks. That just set a weird mood right off the bat, like we were being rushed despite it being completely dead on a cold Tuesday night. With the food, the portion size was large but everything just tasted so bland– the veggies, the fried rice, the noodles. My steak was completely shredded into tiny pieces, and the one thing that I always keep an eye on is the seafood. I know exactly how my meal is gonna go when my hibachi chef starts cooking the shrimps and scallops before he even cooks the steaks and yet the steak is served first while the seafood is turning into rubber on the grill. All I can do is sadly stare at what could have been juicy and succulent seafood as it twitches and shrivels on that hot hot grill because I don’t want to offend the chef and end up getting less food on my plate. But what can ya do. It hit the spot but I wasn’t exactly satisfied. It’s worth a try though because you might get a different experience than my own– just hope you get a good hibachi chef. Oh and they have yum yum sauce. If all else fails just drown your entire plate with it.

I was referred to Masa Hibachi by MD Burbs Elite Rhianna B #MajorPropsToRhiannaB! I literally ran into Rhianna and her partner in crime Reid at my table at the Harvest Moon Festival and we started talking about restaurants in the town center… ya know… cause we’re Unilocalers. Masa came with high praise from Rhianna, and there’s no doubt I know why now. First of all, let’s talk about the ALL-DAY yes All Day #TodoDia *YADLLA(that’s All Day backwards): Sunday Happy Hour. They have drink specials, but they also have specials on Sushi. Oddly enough… a good amount of the sushi specials have Mango in them… which was a little unique… but to each his own. I got the 1. California Rolls(no cucumber). 2. Spicy Santa Roll: Tempura Shrimp Inside Out with Kani, Spicy Mayo, Scallion and Fish Egg(no fish egg) 3. Spicy Tuna Roll All of the rolls were delicious. Some of the rolls were a little sloppily rolled(no rice on part of the roll– sort of rectangular). But, I could definitely tell all of the ingredients were very fresh. I also appreciated the…(Cucumber round?) filled with blinking color changing light. That was super cute. I think the spicy tuna roll was my favorite adaptation I’ve had. And the Spicy Santa Roll was freakin’ delicious! The woman next to me got some of the hibachi grill stuff and the portion was large and looked really good. She asked for more«Yum yum» sauce which I thought was funny. I ate at the bar, bartender was super friendly and wiling to explain any of the dishes. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back here. So glad I know of a sushi place like this in Silver Spring. Thanks Rhianna B!
