Skilled Maids

Skilled Maids has several good reviews on Unilocal and to be honest, they do a good job. There’s always room for improvement, and they always seem to listen to customers needs. If they miss one thing during a visit, if you bring it to their attention they’ll make sure fix it the next time.
The reason why I am rating them poorly is because they locked my partially paralyzed dog in a cold basement. I’m not sure how my dog made her way from the dog bed in the living room to the basement, but when we came home that’s where she was shivering with the door deadbolted.
Not cool.
This was the last straw.
Now normally, I would put my dog in a crate when we have cleaners just to have her out of the way. Here’s the thing with Skilled Maids. They tell you what day/​time they will be there, and they will then arrive many many hours later than the time given, so you don’t know when to expect them and prepare. I mean at least they arrive the day they promise but you never know if they are gonna intrude hours before or after the scheduled time window. That particular day I had thought they were not gonna make it, did half the cleaning myself and went to dinner (they said they would arrive by lunch time). Apparently they arrived in the time we were gone at night. This has been a consistent issue.
So to break it down, here are some of the pros and cons of this service
Pros
1-​Seem to be the most affordable companies out there
2-​Their positive Unilocal reviews speak to their trustworthiness
3-​When we cancelled and explained the situation with the dog, the owner was incredibly apologetic, professional, and willing to work with us. She mailed our house key back right away
Cons
1-​Different teams of people come to your house each time. Some do a better job of cleaning than others
2-​Each time they come in they grab several rolls of paper towels, and based on the trash output they are not all used. It’s weird just how many rolls they grab. Seriously, does this business not have a Costco card to get their own?
3-​Inconsistent with their sticking to their time windows. They change the window every week if you have routine cleanings.
Honestly, if it had not been for the dog incident and if I didn’t have time constraints with needing them there are certain times, I would have stuck with them because of their prices and their customer service. And then I would just hide the stash of paper towels.

I have been a customer for over three years. The company is professional, come on time, work fast, curtious. I book deep cleaning 3 – 4 times a year.

I’ve been a customer for 3 years and have been progressively happier as time goes on. The ladies are thorough, efficient and always pleasant. They are respectful of my home, my belongings and of time, making the most efficient use of it when on duty. I especially appreciate the willingness and desire to improve. Whenever I’ve made a suggestion, it was kindly and professionally received and effectively followed up on. And, when I am present, the ladies always ask if everything is to my liking before they leave. I also appreciate Skilled Maid’s flexibility in terms of changing appointments to meet my schedule. It is a very professionally-​run business which I would recommend to anyone who values peace of mind along with a quality cleaning service.

I have used 4 different maid services over the years. These ladies are by far and away the best. They are very professional, and very fast. If they have a question they check with you to be sure of what you want to do. They are very good with my dogs and they help me informally in my quest to learn to speak Spanish. Everytime that they are here, i notice that they have cleaned something which I did not even notice. In todays world, it is so nice to come across people, from the maids, up to the owner, who take pride in their work. I wouldnt never consider using another service.

I wasn’t thrilled and ended up hiring someone else next time. I can’t say that Skilled Maids did a bad job. It was good, but nothing special. I just don’t like the fact they they have a certain time limit to finish the job, and it seems like because of that they just can’t pay too much attention to detail. But overall a reasonable cleaning company.

This is the first cleaning service I have tried in the area and I selected them from the great reviews that they have on Unilocal.
In my experience, the monthly maintenance service varies between 3 stars and 5 stars. 3 stars when it looks as if they stick to a script and clean areas and surfaces they see. 5 stars when they find my step stool and clean every inch of my blinds, pick-​up every single dog (husky) hair from my hard wood floors, remember to bring the vacuum attachment for under the bed, and wipe the grease splatter from cabinets that only my OCD can see.
Skilled maids are a little iffy with sticking to their time window, but are super trustworthy around valuables.

For prices in the area they are VERY reasonable and they always do a very thorough and wonderful job! They are great about responding to specific requests as well (please don’t change the sheets, the shower needs special attention, whatever).
They are easy to reach via email and you can send them a text at ANY TIME and they always respond and are SUPER flexible when it comes to rescheduling!
This past Monday my cleaning was cancelled because of the snow. I had company coming on Thursday and texted to ask if there was any way they could reschedule me for Tuesday/​Wednesday and they came the next day!
HIGHLY recommend them!

I highly recommend Skilled Maids! I live in a lovely basement apartment in a house owned by my daughter and son-​in-​law, who live upstairs. Last spring the kids did some remodeling of the upstairs which left a lot of dust and dirt in my downstairs apartment, and I was skeptical that anyone could clean it up as well as I wanted. My daughter hired Skilled Maids and they did a wonderful post-​construction job for me. Since then I have been using them for twice a month cleaning and am very happy with their work, flexibility, and accessibility. They do a great cleaning job and are always easy to reach by phone or email.
The workers are very honest and helpful. This week I was away for several days and when I returned, my bathroom had a lot of water from a pipe that had started to leak from the ceiling. The workers had tried to contact me but I was on an airplane! They persisted and contacted my daughter, who arranged to have the leak fixed. When I came home, I found a lovely note from the workers about the problem, and they had cleaned up as best they could before they left. They did a great job and it was very easy for me to clean up once the leak was fixed. They also took numerous photos of what the bathroom looked like when they arrived (a wet, soggy mess) and sent the pictures to me in an email, which was very helpful.
I feel very comfortable with the ladies having my key and coming in even if I am not at home.
This company is the best!

I’d do 4.5 stars, but don’t know how. The service is enormously professional, thorough, and well priced. The women they send to clean are delightful to have around, and do a great job with very little direction. The only reason I didn’t give them five full stars is that the teams change often (I understand — this is not a growth job) and I have to explain my peculiarities, of which there are many, every time we have an entirely new team.
I like that I’m working with a service that does all the right things: Social Security, tax forms, etc. etc. And their culture is a good one: the people seem to be happy to work for Skilled Maids, and therefore I’m happy that they work for me. Highly recommended, whether you come from private hiring or other cleaning services. This is the best I’ve used.

Skilled Maids had great response time. Within 2 – 3 hours of making the initial inquiry phone call the cleaning crew was at the front door. We requested the «move-​in’ cleaning for a new home. They did the job on time. They also identified areas in the house that needed attention which were missed during the inspection.
I plan to use their cleaning services again.

We tried 3 other cleaning services from Unilocal before finding Skilled Maids. They do a great job and are a pleasure to work with.
They communicate with me every week before the ladies come and are flexible if a time doesn’t work for us.

Absolutely satisfied with the Skilled Maids service. Over the years we have had other maid services and when we moved from VA to MD we needed a new service. I cant say enough about how truly great they are. We currently have the bi-​weekly service for the past 2 years in our 3 level townhouse. If I had it my way they would come every week! What I appreciate most is that they are very thorough. Blinds dusted, grout lines perfectly scrubbed clean, toilet paper roll neatly folded and the beds are always made perfectly. Always on time, quick yet detailed service, professional and trustworthy. So glad that we have Skilled Maids!

I’ve used four different cleaning services in the DC area and this one was, by far, the very, very best. I booked my first cleaning very easily via online and email, and even received a text message reminder the day before my cleaning. the two ladies who were sent to my house arrived about 10 minutes early and went straight to work. They did each floor (I have three) together, which seems to have made the quality of the work far more thorough.
My only regrets are not having booked them sooner and not having more cash to tip the ladies.
I’ll definitely be booking another service and will be requesting the same team!

You know how usually you LOVE a cleaning service for like 6 months and then suddenly it starts to go south. Cutting corners and the like. Well I’ve used Skilled Maids for almost 2 years and they have always done an amazing job. Always. And I am super picky. My only complaint is that it’s pricey, but the quality and deep clean keeps me coming back.

I’ve used skilled maids to clean my house twice a months for several months and am considering hiring another service for my needs, but they may be perfect for you. Please read my lists below before you decide.
Pro:
–they always come the day they say they will
–they are quick, cleaning an 1100 sq ft house in less than 1 hour
–they are responsive when I’ve requested extra attention be paid to areas of the house
–they have my key and seem trust worthy
–they send email reminders whenever a cleaning is scheduled
–they charge me $ 105/​visit, which is low or comparable to other cleaning services
Con:
–often different people come from week to week and the attention to detail is inconsistent
–they aren’t very thorough, I find areas they failed to clean every time
–3 instances of damage have happened during cleanings and have not been reported to me (accidents happen, but should be reported)
–they charge a significant fee for credit card use
–as far as I can tell, they use normal chemicals and paper towels to clean, so they aren’t particularly eco-​friendly
If you want a reliable, reasonably priced service that will do a cursory clean, then give then a try, but don’t expect any particular attention to detail.

I have had the Skilled Maids clean our new home twice and prior to that, they have cleaned our rental home once for a move-​in cleaning. They did a wonderful job all three times and I am a tough critic. I have had a couple bad experiences with other cleaning companies. However, I was very impressed with the Skilled Maids team. They clean areas that are difficult to reach– under the couch, air conditioning vents, ceiling fan blades, on top of the refrigerator, etc. They are very professional and responsive. They send coupons and cards to their loyal customers. They are the best!!!

I loved how comfortable I was with the Skilled Maids team, and how great it felt to come home to a perfectly cleaned house!

I was present during the cleaning and had a three-​member crew clean my home that I was moving into the next day. I had to point out areas where they did not clean properly (grime in between titles, mold/​mildew in some areas, etc.), which caused their cleaning window to go over the time allotted to my home. The crew was also given the wrong address (?), which caused them to be a half-​hour late to my appointment.
Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the level of cleaning that I received in my home. Upon a more detailed inspection, I saw that the toilets were not cleaned well (rims were still dirty), the bathroom baseboards were not cleaned at all, the doorknobs were not cleaned/​disinfected, the light switches were not cleaned/​disinfected, and a light fixture was also not dusted at all. Part of the master bathroom shower doors were also left dirty.
While I saw that the cleaning crew worked hard, I also noticed that they were cleaning my kitchen cupboards with cheap dishsoap and not any type of heavy duty grease remover, which was what my cabinets needed. I moved into a home whose previous owners made the kitchen cabinets extremely sticky and dirty and grimy, and am left with what I initially had before the cleaning. If they can’t clean something, they should let me know before scrubbing to no avail. The crew also did not know the final amount that was to be paid.
I feel disappointed that I did not get the quality cleaning that I was promised. I am also disappointed with the lack of response I have gotten from the owners; it has been two days and I haven’t heard back from them to reschedule a re-​cleaning.

Skilled Maids gets a solid 4.5 stars. Yes, I do the ‘half-​star’ thing. Yes, you can actually rate a cleaning service on more than just whether or not the place is no longer dirty…
I’m not a neat freak, but when I clean, I clean thoroughly. Morena & the rest of the team did an excellent job proving that Meg G. doesn’t know squat about the definition of clean. Hand-​scrubbed floors like my grandmother did them… attention to detail from the linens to the T.P. rolls… a lingering fresh, clean smell that would put Febreze out of business…
Yes, yes, there was definite skill involved.
I needed a professional service; because, although I know how to wipe down door frames and baseboards and ‘dust’ ceiling fixtures, I cannot undo a few days’ worth of drywall dust being blown all over a couple of floors in the house. Yes, I needed ‘post-​renovation’ cleaning, and hadn’t had much luck finding companies that specifically offered this. Once again, Unilocal proved to be a great help.
After speaking with both the owner, and the office manager, I was provided a quote and an opportunity to express exactly what I wanted done. The only snafu was that I mentioned a coupon I’d found on their website, which they explained was no longer valid. After a conversation/​email, that coupon was promptly removed. This wasn’t a big deal, but worth noting. In addition, there is a 3.5% credit card fee that they don’t mention up front. Luckily, I’d read the previous reviews on Unilocal,and wasn’t caught off guard the day that payment was rendered. I assume that this percentage is to cover their processing costs as a business. Also, for first-​time clients (or those new to the whole professional cleaning experience in general), it is best to remember that the billable hours are man-​hours. Thus, you won’t find yourself wondering how a 6-​hour project is suddenly completed in 2 or 3.
I would definitely recommend this company to others. They also sub-​contract an air duct cleaning company that does an excellent job. I found their prices to be average/​reasonable. Whether I needed another deep clean, or just a regular service, I’d be sure to call Skilled Maids again!

I did a deep clean on a house which had gross tenants for 2 years. The bathrooms, I think, had never been cleaned, the fridge needed a deep clean… there was a lot to do.
In 3 hours with a 3 person crew they brought it back to its previous glory! I’m only giving it 4 stars though because they charged me a credit card fee, which wasn’t mentioned in advance and I found a bit annoying.
They were great cleaners and I recommend them!
