Sol Y Mar

The wait was really long, we came on a weekday in the afternoon with my husband. there was a group of guys other than us. The food seemed fresh, a bit on the salty side but flavorful. I had the steak faijtas which i reccomend, it came steaming hot and was delicious and my husband had steak skirt with rice. He didnt enjoy his dish, he said the steak was dry.
Service was good, except server didnt really check on us and didnt speak or understand english. Overall experience is moderate, not bad but not great.

Their food is good, I wish there was more of the rice and beans along with the order. This place is very chill to go to. I’ve gone here twice already, once around mid day and the other around late night. Service is decent. There can be loud music playing. They also have a couple of TV’s there to watch some of the games. I recommend anyone to go here and get some lunch during your lunch break at work or go for a quick eat. The wait for the food is not long at all. Not sure how it is when it’s really full, I’ve always gone when it’s not so busy. Worth going to try it out and consider going a second time. I for sure will go again!

Not a comfortable place. I went over with a friend to try this place hoping it would be a new good destination for happy hour after work. We went there on a Friday evening. We were the only customers. As we arrived, the staff welcomed and seated us immediately. The music was blasting so LOUD that I could barely hear my friend across the table from me. The music was «Ranchera» that you only enjoy if you understand the words. We did not feel comfortable in there so we politely left the restaurant before ordering anything. I am giving it two stars just because the staff who welcomed us were friendly, but I doubt returning back to this place. If one thing has to change is the music.

Don’t go there if you’re a gringo. Other patrons will talk trash about you and you’ll get bad service.

We moved to and apartment complex in the heart of Wheaton a couple of months ago and have enjoyed the many restaurant’s in the area… We dined at Sol y Mar and the food was okay nothing outstanding… Mia Rancho is much better. We wanted so much to love this restaurant… dined there last night… it will be the last time. We were the only ones there for food. Every other person there was at the bar including the wait staff they sat our entire visit at the bar with their cell phones in their face… The food was worse than the first visit it was cold and bland and the service was incredibly slow… even with being the only diners.

Im rating them 3 stars based on food and price. Not great but not bad. I think thwy have potential but have a few adjustments to make. I also suggest they play their own music.
I live across the street and was hoping to find a good local solution for when i get lazy and dont want to cook. I can literally see the restuarant feom my window. I had been to the Royal Mile Pub (prior restaurant) a few times and it pretty much looks the same with a lighter paint job. We walked in and had no idea if we should just sit or wait to be greeted. It took a few minutes to be noriced and seated. The owner speaks english but im not entirely sure if the waitresses are fluent or not. Heres where im a little torn, the food was ok but over priced. I order a platter for 2 which i can compare to a order of fajitas at guapos for $ 37. The pupusas were good and i usually complain that there isnt any cheese but these were full. The atmosphere was not for me. The juke was flooded with rancheras and literally gets frustrating after the first 10 songs but you have the option of making your own request for $ 1 a song. Yhen the crowd that happen be there would literally stare at every woman there as part of the menu, i can blame the restaurant for that but its part of the experience. I like that they added the tvs and had the soccer games going.

The new owners have fixed up the old Royal Mile Pub location, much brighter, lighter dining place. It is now set up like a sports bar with a juke box blaring away and mutiple televisions on the walls. They are pretty new so it will take some time for them to settle down. The menu is simple Salvadoran/​Mexican. Tried the shrimp tacos — tasty, decent ingredients. Wife had a fried piece of fish. Decent, well spiced. Their entrees are served with rice and poor watery pinto beans. Ordered the steak rare and but it came out over done and tough. Stick to the simple latino fare. Service was ok, a little slow. Some of the wait staff speaks limited english.

Sol Y Mar has recently opened in what was formerly the Royal Mile Scottish pub in Wheaton, MD, at 2407 Price Avenue. Their phone number is 301−933−1340.
I will admit that it was a bit of a shock going in there after having patronized the Mile for so many decades. I am sorry the Mile is gone but Sol Y Mar may be a suitable replacement.
The food is described as Salvadorean — Mexican. The restaurant is mostly unchanged. The walls have been repainted, the wooden floor has been replaced with tile, and there are a number of TV screens that display sports programs and that can be used for karaōke. The bar and the rest rooms remain essentially unchanged. There is a jukebox with a mix of musical styles.
My wife and I visited the weekend they opened. I had the beef fajita and she had a beef dish. Both were excellent. We met Manuel, the owner, and really liked him. He seems to be bending over backwards to ensure that Sol Y Mar appeals not just to Latinos but to those of all ethnic persuasions.
I was there a few days ago and had the shrimp fajita. Again it was excellent, with shrimp that were large and tasty. At the time they had only bottled beer but the taps should be live by now. Bottled beer was $ 4 so I am hoping draft will be a bit less.
Hopefully they will have Negra Modela and Yuengling on draft. If so I will be a happy camper. If they have Dos Equis on tap I will really be happy. That is a beer from a German born Mexican brewer so you have the best of two worlds. If you have not enjoyed a Mexican beer I suggest you give one a try, and I am not talking about Corona bottles. Either Modela or Negra Modela (dark) would be good for a start.
Sol Y Mar has karaōke. I have not been there for it but I have seen the crowds that pour in. Hopefully they have titles in both English and Spanish. There is plenty of karaōke in Wheaton, both at Sergio’s Place nearby and also when Blinkies Karaōke comes to town, with her thousands of English and Spanish titles, so Sol Y Mar will have plenty of competition.
