The Maryland Eye Care Center

Went here b/​c it is close to my apt and I need an ophthalmologist, not an optometrists.
Start to finish it took over 2 hours. (the receptionist said that is normal)
The waiting room was full. In total, I was seen by 3 technicians, 2 of them were in training. The experienced woman was kind, professional, thorough yet efficient. The other two, not so much. They were nice but I had no confidence they were doing things correctly, plus they were gossiping and whatnot as I was doing my tests. The experienced technician had to redo at least one of them b/​c it wasn’t done correctly.
After doing my tests with the technicians, there was another wait in a crowded hallway to see the doctor.
The doctor, Dr. Bryant, was fine. Nice. Competent. *shrugs* nothing special or extra attentive.
(Honestly I prefer my old optometrist :(but b/​c of some medicines have to see an MD every six months)
2+ hours later I was finally done with the exam and they asked if I wanted to choose glasses. um no, I had to go to work. My appt was at 9:50. I left after 12 noon
They were nice enough to print my prescription for me.
I returned on Saturday at 11am to choose glasses… but the door was locked even though it says they are open until noon.
I took my prescription elsewhere, ordered glasses. I will try another place before deciding if I return here.

Well i dont even feel like giving one star but i have no choice… as soon as i approached the receptionist i was told to pay a 35 $ fee for missing appointment… that i didn’t get any reminders or confirmation for… was so disappointed with this that i just paid the 35 and left with out taking my exam… now i just feel like i just got robbed.
It would have been much better if they take care of my eye first and then talk about the rest later. However, It looks like they prefer that u miss ur appointment and pay 35 $ than giving the service that they stood for.
I am a very disappointed customer.
And i will never come back and recommend this center to anyone.

The office visit was very pleasant. all of the employees where very friendly and professional. I was in and out very quickly and everyone made me feel like an actual person instead of just another number. very highly recommended.

Had a complete eye exam today.7/7/15 staff was great. very modern office up2date technology was a plus for me… the office was busy today but the staff was on point…

In summary, Maryland Eye Care is running some sort of scam. I have been in glasses and contacts for over 25 years. I know what to expect from a routine eye exam and contact lenses fitting. I found the Maryland Eye Care Center through the in-​network list. I was able to quickly make an appointment. When I got to my appointment, I was one of about 20 – 25 people in the room. I was called back after I complained about having been there for about an hour. At that time, I was shuffled into the hallway where more patients were sitting. A very young tech called my name and we went to one of the machines you look through and read letters. This machine was in the hallway… not in a private room. I thought this was just a preliminary eye exam but nope, that was the extent of my annual wellness eye exam. The technician asked if my eye glasses were in good shape and I said yes. She then read the RX on them and bam — there was my prescription. The doctor called me into one of the rooms and asked if I had any questions. He was very curt and rude. I said my question is «when is my REAL exam where you do a routine exam going to take place?» He said that it already took place by the technician and asked if I had any more questions. At that point, I wanted to get out of there and left. They ordered some trials lenses for me (which I knew were going to be a disaster and not fit since the tech did the RX.) After 2 weeks, I hadn’t heard from them regarding my trial pairs. Well, they forgot to order them. A few days later, my trial contacts were in. As expected, they did not fit AT ALL. They did not pick up that I have a very strong astigmatism and since I didn’t mention it or know my old RX, I was given a terrible RX. (I had paid $ 100 for the contact lenses fitting. They had also already billed my insurance company for my annual eye care exam — which really didn’t take place at all. So, I was kind of married to these idiots.) I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible and just left. After calling around for a contact fitting alone, I quickly realized that most opthamologists want to do an entire exam before they give you a contact lenses fitting (which makes sense.) So, I made another appointment with Maryland Eye Care to see if I could get a doctor to do the contact lenses fitting this time. I made my appointment, was told the doctor would spend more time with me after I voiced my concerns and again was one of 30 in the waiting room. They called me back and again, a different tech took me to a random booth in the hallway to do my contact lenses RX. I asked when I’d see a doctor. They said later. I waited in the crammed hallway with about 10 other patients for 20 minutes and finally demanded my $ 100 contact lenses fitting fee back and told them I would never be back. The doctor was never going to do a complete eye exam and contact fitting on me. There were far too many other patients for him to spend time with me. SO. Now, I’m stuck having to pay for ANOTHER eye exam since they already billed my insurance company for their «annual eye exam» which was done in 3 minutes by a young tech in a crowded hallway. Every place I go to requires an exam by their practice before a contact lenses fitting and I have to have a RX less than a year old to get contacts. I need contacts and I refuse to go back to the Maryland Eye Care Center. I would just keep getting seen by techs and never will get a correct RX. I now have to pay for a routine eye exam AND a contact lenses fitting (roughly $ 300 versus $ 100) because the Maryland Eye Care Center used my one free annual per year. So, this place ruined my only free eye exam I get.
Also, they sent me the insurance claim form at my home versus my insurance company because they have no clue what they are doing. I brought it back to them and they said «oops!» They also mentioned at the first appointment that «they hardly ever do contact lenses fitting.» I should have walked out then! Each appointment with the doctor took about 3 – 5 minutes on average while there were about 15 techs who did all of the work.
I would never want someone to go through the nightmare that I went through with them with an end result of having to pay more out of pocket because of getting fed up. SAVE YOURSELF. Do not go here.
