Aaron Schwartz – Handyman Extraordinaire

Unreliable. Never finished a simple job of painting and hanging some interior doors for my mother-​in– law. Always has an excuse of why he can’t finish, it’s been three months and the job is still not done. We will have to pursue a small claims case to get some money back.

We needed a water heater strapped for a time sensitive real estate transaction. Within minutes of calling Arron, he came to our rescue and we are so thankful. He didn’t gouge the Seller for unthinkable and unreasonable fees, but was honest and work very credible. Thank you Aaron and you have a our future business! This is my first ever Unilocal review, not because I haven’t had an account but because I was never THAT motivated to leave a review. Well Aaron provided that motivation for me. I walked outside with my mother on a Sunday to find water gushing out of her garage and she was traveling out of town the next day at 5 am. Her water heater was leaking and a quick call into a plumbers determined for anyone to just come out, it would be over $ 500+. I found Aaron on Unilocal and placed the call last minute on a Sunday. I left a voicemail and immediately received a call back. He was very busy and had a few other calls but was still willing to drive all the way over just to take a look at the problem. Not only was he willing to come by between rushing to other jobs and help on a Sunday, but he was able to resolve the leak! Now neither my mother nor myself are very versed in these sort of issues (one could even say the opposite of versed), and it would have been extremely easy to make a few quick dollars off of us. But Aaron is not that kind of person! His pricing was extremely fair, honestly he should have charged more. He was a complete professional and gentleman. An amazing person. I would recommend his work/​pricing /​him to anyone, anytime! Thank you Aaron, you have no idea how much your kindness was appreciated by single mother and daughter who came home to visit for her mother’s birthday! Sometimes I forget, but Aaron reminded me there are still generous /​kind individuals in this world!

I was very disappointed… both with Aaron’s work and his reliability. I am grateful that he was able to come quickly to do repairs at my rental condo. However, my tenant had to call him back to fix his work (and he asked her not to tell me) and his work was mediocre, sloppy. More importantly, he quoted me two hours to do the work and then took four and a half without checking in about the MAJOR price difference. He did accept payment for three hours after I complained.
Despite these warning signs, I made arrangements for him to do a days-​worth of work at my house. When the day came, he didn’t call me as promised, nor after I texted. I finally called him and he let me know something had happened… something that would have been a very legitimate excuse had he taken five minutes to let me know rather than letting me sit at home waiting for him. He promised to call me in an hour and I didn’t hear from him until three hours later.
If you decide to hire him, I suggest you watch him closely. And cross your fingers about scheduling.

Aaron is a total hidden gem and I’m so happy I discovered him!
I moved into a new room and was not happy to discover that there was carpet… In the bathroom. WHO INSTALLS CARPET IN THE BATHROOM!!! I also wasn’t a fan of the color that the room had been painted previously (Hello, 70’s! As they would say on HouseHunters, the color was definitely «dated»).
I needed the work done TODAY since cleaners are scheduled to come in tomorrow and I called a bunch of contracting companies who «might be able to fit me in next week.» Not okay. :(
I turned to craigslist, where I posted an ad and received a deluge of responses from people who I wasn’t sure I would feel comfortable hiring. Until Aaron popped up in my inbox. He took a look at the pictures I’d posted, told me exactly what would need to be done (instead of just «call me» with a number), and was extremely professional, warm, kind, and witty in the process. I had a good feeling about him, so I called him and was impressed with how knowledgeable and personable he was on the phone. I decided to hire him and we agreed on a very reasonable rate for the painting and flooring work that needed to be done.
Aaron arrived at my place on time and brought all the tools and equipment necessary to get the job done. He was friendly, prompt, and professional and got to work right away.
I am going to share this next part because it really blew me away — Aaron is one of the most HONEST, trustworthy people I’ve ever met in my life. At one point during the work, I realized that I didn’t have enough paint to finish the painting job. Nobody else was home in the apartment, but I decided to make a 45-​minute run to Home Depot to pick up one more quart of paint, leaving Aaron alone in my home. When I came back, he was diligently and skillfully working away with amazing flooring work to show for it… And I was so thrilled to have found someone who could have easily walked out with my stuff, but didn’t. Aaron has the utmost integrity and I will vouch for him any day of the week.
Aaron didn’t stop working until he perfected the flooring and the painting that needed to be done. I was amazed with how perfectly the tile fit in the bathroom (he moved the toilet, replaced the wax ring, put in the tile, and replaced the toilet) and how well of a job he’d done painting. We chatted a bit and I learned that his specialty is home theater installation (he’s done the homes of several celebrities!) and lighting fixtures and equipment. He works as a handyman on the side but he is incredibly skilled at what he does and gives his best for an incredible price.
Other things Aaron does: Recessed lighting, smart switch automated lighting, kitchen sink and tile repair, high-​end home theater installation (including networking, distributed audio, CCTV system, DirecTV distibution, etc.), door installation, and pretty much everything and anything that you need built, fixed, installed, or torn out.
He is based in Thousand Oaks, but he travels around to get the job done. Just before coming over to my place in Venice, he had just finished replacing a garage door in Simi Valley. Aaron is seriously a handyman superhero!
I will be keeping Aaron on speed-​dial in the future for any handyman needs. He truly is a Handyman Extraordinaire and I am very, very happy with his professionalism, skill, work ethic, integrity, and genuinely warm, kind, and caring demeanor.
If I could give Aaron Schwartz more than 5 stars, I would. Since I can’t, 5 stars and two thumbs up… WAY up!
