C & M Automotive and Transmissions

These guys are awesome. I took my car to address maintenance warnings popping up in my infotainment display. They looked the car over, told me that all of the fluids checked out, and gave the car a clean bill of health. In addition, and at no charge, the Carotech guys cleaned and detailed the car, and found a key buried under on the carpets that I had been seeking for the better part of a year. I will work with these guys for as many of my repair needs as possible!

My car broke down while I was driving. AAA recommended C & M, so I had my car towed to their shop. Sure the staff was ‘friendly’, but their pricing was outrageous. My car was disabled, and they took advantage of that fact.
I was forced to pay $ 100 to get my car out of their shop. I had my car re-​towed to another shop, where the same work was $ 250 cheaper and had the same guarantees.
My last comment about C & M is…**warning: price gouging**

If I could give 10 stars I would give it to the team at C&M! First class service and honest work. I have had my highlander services here since moving to California. These services included a full break replacement and oil changes. I can always feel good that my vehicle is getting fair service recommendations. They are a shop you can trust will look out for your vehicle without recommending unnecessary services. They are willing to answer all questions with a great helpful attitude. I cannot recommend these guys enough over other shops and even local dealerships.

I came here because I needed a very quick job to fix my displaced splashguard and when I looked up auto repair places on Unilocal this place had a high rating & when I called they didn’t seem to have too much of a wait. Boy was that a lucky move! When I got there both of the employees were very nice and took my car immediately. They fixed it in about three minutes (not even kidding) and then they didn’t charge me because it was such an easy job… Pep boys wanted $ 117/​hour and said it would take 20+ minutes. All they had to do was put my splashguard back in place. Being a new customer to them and having them treat me so nicely and professionally was a very unusual but fortunate occurrence. I will definitely be recommending this place to my friends and family who are still in the area! Thank you C & M employees!!!

Update, back here in vegas I felt something was wrong with my transmission again. I called Rudy at C & M and he told me that my ATRA WARRANTY would cover me at a new shop, since I couldn’t take my car back to Simi from Vegas. Come to find out it was just an ignition coil that had failed. Albeit they did no hands on work this time around they helped me find a place here.

The team is very pro, The manager took care of my needs quick, and i was on my way. I hope you have the same experience. And they really are concerned about there reputation. Thanks guys.

Rudy and the crew at C&M are great. They are extremely knowledgeable and eager to help. They do excellent work, their prices are fair and won’t try to sell you any parts or labor you don’t absolutely need. I know my car is in good hands here.

Always a great job, quick, courteous and reasonably priced for the great work they do! My car is better than before I brought it in!

The owner contacted us to make it right (failed transmission while on vacation last year). Nothing was made right. He just strung us along for months and months. He also wanted to pay us to remove the review, which is in violation of Unilocal’s standards/​codes.
When we were on vacation, when the transmission failed in another state ruining our vacation– we did not have the warranty on us. That’s nice that the warranty could have helped us and that the shop holds a warranty program, but the shop gave us no help while we were stranded. The aftermath was months of them ignoring us. The ethics and integrity of this shop are disturbing.
We literally had a string of issues with this business. If you see my other reviews, I only do negative reviews when its just necessary.

Saturday, 14 February 2015 me, my wife, and my grandson are ¾’s of mile east of the Madera exit on CA 118, on our way to the Reagan Library, when my engine blew a sparkplug. We had driven 3 hours from San Diego. We were really bummed at the prospect of having driven all that way just to have to be towed all the way back to San Diego. The trip would’ve been a total bust. I pull up local auto repair places on my smartphone and for some strange reason I picked C&M to call. Rudy answered, calmed us down, gave us the phone number of a great tow company and within an hour the car was at C&M’s garage. Rudy was due to close at 2 o’clock that day. The car got there at 12 noon. I suspect any auto repair place could’ve easily taken advantage of this out-​of-​town family in need. I observed Rudy and his staff to be outstanding as I overheard them talk about repair decisions with other clients cars and their priority in getting us back on the road and try to salvage as much of the day as possible. Rudy had our car repaired in 2 hours and the cost was commensurate with what I had paid another repair shop in San Diego to fix another one of my cars that also had blown a plug. I can’t praise Rudy and the C&M guys enough. They really did save our bacon that day, so much so that I’m keeping C&M’s phone number in my phone in case I’m near Simi Valley again and I have a breakdown. An outstanding business and truly honest people.

I have taken my vehicles to C&M for the past seven years. They have always been very honest and genuine. I have referred several family members to C&M and they all come back with a positive experience.

My family has been coming here for years! They are very friendly and really know what they are doing! I would recommend them to anyone!

I already went through a nightmare taking my 05 Scion Xb with manual transmission to another transmission shop in Simi Valley for a shifting issue.
They kept my car for two months and when I had my car back it had way worse shifting issues than before.
Finally I took it to C & M, explained my problem to Rudy and few days later I had my car back with no issues.
He took the transmission box out of the car, inspected it and asked me to go there so that he could show me that one shifting component had been installed upside-​down creating all those problems.
I wish I had taken my car there in the first place !

I use Rudy at C and M Automotive for all of my service needs, They do excellent work at very reasonable prices. I totally trust them to give me sound advice on my car’s needs. I drive a Ford 500 and when it was under warranty they handled it and they are always professional in their approach. C & M is a family run business, as Rudy took it over from his father. I would not take my car to any other shop, as I have never had a problem from any work performed by C&M Automotive.

First of all, I should get a frequent drop-​off award for this outfit. I recently had my 2001 325i and my 1995 Honda Civic repaired, resulting in a total cost of about $ 2700 after my AAA discount kicked in.
BMW First Time: Dropped off the 325i because it seemed like it was not getting any fuel and stalled the night before. I told Justin it seemed like a fuel pump issue but since it was electric I wasn’t sure. Justin later told me that it was a couple of vacuum leaks that were very hard to find. I thought to myself I had never experienced a complete stall out from a very hard to find vacuum leak but they must have known what they were talking about. I picked up the car and it died on me that night.
BMW Second Time: Had it towed over to C&M to check out. Came by later on and was told that I ran it out of gas. They told me they put in a gallon of gas and it started right up. So, feeling pretty stupid but doubtful of their «discovery», I got my car back and was told I only owe them a gallon of gas, I went to the service station, filled my car to the top and found that I was 3 ½ gallons short of completely filling it up, which means I still had roughly 2 gallons available in my tank. I’ve had this car for 11 years and know what running out of gas is like. In fact I know just about every characteristic of this car.
Honda First Time: Brought over to get the water pump, passenger axle and distributor seal fixed. They gave me a free inspection and came back with quite a list of needed repairs, which included, but not limited to the driver side axle as well, and both tie-​rods which would require an alignment. I told them to fix every one. Got it back a day late, no big deal, but after I got it back noticed it was veering to the right and oil was still leaking from the distributor seal. Called Justin and he said to bring it in.
BMW Third Time: After I got my car back… again, I was driving with my 3– year old son and the car died right in the middle of standing traffic (Sycamore and Cochran). Had it towed again to C&M. They finally realized it was the Fuel Pump causing the problem, so 3 tows later they got it right.
Honda Second Time: I brought the car in on the weekend after I reported the problem and was told I had low tires. I would have guessed that if the car was aligned, a simple low tire issue would have come to light. After I got it back, still veering right.
Honda Third Time: Brought the Honda back in and they rotated the tires, saying that there must be a problem with the tires. Now the care seems to veer left and right intermittently. Not going back whatsoever.
This morning I heard a loud rattling under the hood of my 325. I popped the hood only to notice they never tightened the screws on my engine cover when they worked on my car. Is this going to end?

I dropped my 2008 Mazda 6 off on August 31, 2013 with a transmission issue (light on and not shifting properly). Justin was very helpful and they did get me in for an initial diagnosis on a holiday weekend. Gave the OK to complete the $ 4500 transmission rebuild on September 4, 2013. Vehicle was promised to be completed by Sept. 14^th.
Was finally able to pick the car up on Sept. 21^st. A week late due to a faulty part that was replaced which caused them to have to pull the transmission again and replace a spring that was out of tolerance causing it not to shift properly. Once we got the car, we drove it for about 100 miles in two days and the transmission light came back on and it started to not shift properly. So… we took the car back on Sept. 23^rd.
Picked the are up for the second time on Sept.28. C&M said the torque converter they replaced when rebuilding the transmission was faulty and some other part (I don’t remember what it was called). Drove the car home, then it sat for a couple of days. Drove it to the DMV to get registered and on the way home the transmission light came on and it stopped shifting properly. So… we took the car back on Oct. 1^st.
Picked the car up for the third time on Oct. 19^th. C&M said they replaced the torque converter a couple more times. So far, after about a month and 800 miles, the issue seems like it has finally been fixed properly.
The Good:
C&M provided a rental vehicle during the 2^nd & 3^rd time we brought the car back to be fixed properly. They were nice when we spoke and did seem genuinely sorry that we were experiencing issues. Overall, the issue was with the parts supplier and C&M went above and beyond to make this right. Justin was very accomodating and the owner, Rudy, gave the OK to make sure we were happy with the final outcome.
We will continue to trust C&M with our vehicle. They stand behind their work and service.

Sept. 29, 2011:
I just paid the Owner $ 800 to replace components that did not fix my problem and that they’re out of ideas. My Problem is Steering Wheel shimmy at 45 to 55 mph on ’97 BMW 540 front end. Before he worked on car, he was VERY confident, he told me he has ~30 years experience and can fix anything. He is charging me charged me around $ 800 to replace various things that might contribute to shimmy but those did NOT fix or improve the shimmy problem and in fact it IS slightly worse because the shimmy starts at lower speed and shimmies into a higher speed! Now he tells me that he’s «out of ideas.»!! He said that he, «does NOT know what else to do.» He’s ready to accept more money to replace more things of course. Like ALL auto repairs shops… Use At Your Own Risk. I will update this post after I meet with him again.
Oct. 15, 2011: I took the car to Exclusive German Auto Repair in Canoga Park to diagnose and repair the shimmy. Waiting for result. Recommended Bushings which were oil soaked as contributed to soft rubber bushings.
Oct. 16, 2011: OK. Klaus called me back. Told me that I need to fix an oil leak for $ 1,900. He’ll also replace the bushings within that price. He said oil leak is causing bad things to happen leaking into motor, contaminating cat, oxygen sensors, damaging motor long term possibly, etc.
Oct. 20, 2011: Exclusive German Auto replaced the bushings (and other oily things). Bushings fixed 75% of the shimmy problem. He says it’s the cross-​drilled rotors that are causing shimmy. HA! Shimmy is 3 years old, rotors are 1 year old. So he’s most likely wrong. I will buy new rotors, give to him, and see if he’s true to his word.
Jun 28, 2013: I have not replaced rotors to finalize if rotors ARE the Demon causing shimmy but I’ll finish this post.
SUMMARY: AUTO REPAIR SHOPS WANT YOUR MONEY 1ST AND MAY FIX YOUR PROBLEMS 2ND. THEY DON’T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING MANY TIMES. USE REPAIR SHOPS AT YOUR OWN RISK. SOME ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS.
