Susana Labradors: Play & Stay Pet Resort

We bought an older pup in 2010. She was pregnant! They told us accidental pregnancies are common and to take our pup back to whelp at their property. We decided to keep her and only 7 puppies (out of 10) survived. It took us months to place the puppies with good families. Now she has blindness, chronic ear infections, and leaks urine. But we love her regardless!
I did not realize so many others had similar problems. Upon careful evaluation of the «records» we received in terms of shots, lineage, contract, vet docs, etc., they are a joke. We got ripped off.

Me and my husband bought two black female puppies from Teresa and if there was a 10 Star review I would give it! We bought the puppies for my mother in law, and once they were born, over the next 10 weeks our family was able to visit the puppies several times before bringing them home. Teresa is wonderful, and she is extremely knowledgeable about her profession. It’s clear she has a deep love for what she does and her dogs, and our two puppies are beautiful, healthy, and have instantly become a part of our family. I would recommend buying a dog from Susana Labradors and in the years to come I will definitely continue to recommend anyone who’s looking for labradors to contact Teresa first. Her compassion, intelligence, and professionalism exceeded our expectations, and we hope to always stay in contact with her.

I seriously can’t believe all the negative reviews. I purchased a Lab puppy from this breeder about 4 years ago, and I had a great experience. My dog, who is now approaching 4 years of age, is healthy and well adjusted. I plan on purchasing my next dog from this breeder even though they have changed names.
I wonder if some of these bad reviews are from rival breeders and/​or people who themselves are not very good dog owners. I can’t explain it, but I can only say I highly recommend this breeder. Judge for yourself…

Jennifer just wrote review I was going to write. I got email from the person who just got a Labrador last Friday saying that purchased a dog from Theresa and Ken in Simi Valley and he looked it up online that’s it’s the same breeders with new name and new address.
If you want to buy a Labrador from this breeders make sure you read «Susana’s Labradors» reviews first. «Susanna’s Labradors» and «SoCal Labradors» are the same breeders. Based in bad review on Susana’s Labradors, a lot of complains and drama they opened business under new name «SoCal Labrador».
They still have the same male name «Chapper» make a lot of money for them!

We have the most beautiful, charismatic, well adjusted, and healthy dog… I could go on and on. We took our time looking, went back twice before picking him. The owner was nice to meet however a younger man helped us, sorry but I forgot his name. We feed our dog the food they recommended and did an enormous amount of research on the food… it’s great stuff and they deliver it. Our pup is a huge part of our lives and I don’t think I could ever find a finer canine than the one I picked from Susana Labradors. If you would like to personal message me I can tell you more.
I meet with my dogs parents, his dad was huge, his Mom slim and petite. I wanted a smaller lab, a more stream-​lined body… like the Mom. We got just that.
It was noted to us at the time of our purchase, by Susana’s, that they did suffer from bad management in the past, and some bad breeding resulted. We were happy with what we saw.
Our dogs name is Whiskey, the same «temporary» name they assigned to him at the breeder. We’ve had our pup for 1 year now, we picked him up at 4 months old. I read the reviews before we went and gave benefit to the doubt. Everything I saw looked fine. They did have a puppy that was inbreed from the old Manager and that was explained to me and I saw the pup. They didn’t have plans on selling it, it was losing its fur apparently. Sad, but that was due to a bad employee. They gave me disclosure and I am fine with that.
I do consider myself a very keen consumer, I want the best. Now, I know going here with all the bad reviews would have seemed stupid. You can see and make sense out of a lot of the reviews just by going to this place and taking a look. I’m sure there are some bad dogs that have been purchased, but how can you know for sure that the dogs are going to be «perfect» as they grow? You can’t. The Giardia is no big deal, dogs get this all the time from what I understand. Our dog had it, we got the meds and it was gone.
Our dog is an athlete and I have spent a lot of time training him, he picks up on things fast and he’s one hell of a sprinter, so fast. We do the vitamin Susana’s recommended every day as well as the food they recommend, and fish oil caps. His coat is super shiny and he’s very muscular and lean.
I have posted pictures of my dog so you can see what he looks like. He seems to still be growing a bit, but weighing in at 55lbs after one year of age. We are happy he is not a large lab and looks just like his Mom.
Whiskey is a beautiful handsome dog. He has a great personality and loves to play. I can’t say enough about him with regards to his personality, build, and health.
If something does develop, such as the PRA (blindness) or some other issue, I will update this post. But for now. We are 100% happy and want another one.

I am shocked by some of these posts. I have a Lab who is 8 & one that is 1, both from Susana Labs. We have both of them on the NU-​VET supplement since we got them, as recommended in the health contract. My contract states that by keeping them on this, they extend their health guarantee, other than the usual skin & ear problems Labs are prone to, I am here to say my dogs are healthy & happy!!! I don’t understand some of these posts & I will only get my Labs from Theresa & Ken @ Susana Labs. Shadow & Thunder say hi too! I am also posting their pictures too.

I wish I wish I wish that there had been a Unilocal review when we bought our lab 2 years ago. I have put off writing this review for a long time, because I wanted so much to believe that we got an unhealthy dog by chance. But it’s time to be honest and get the information out there. Our dog has an intermittent yeast issue (malassezia) that is commonly misdiagnosed in dogs as flea allergies, skin allergies, etc. Her tummy started becoming red and itchy almost immediately after we got her. After a few months, the skin on her belly became dark and her ears were constantly infected. I finally found a pet nutritionist after several vets, diagnoses, and holistic experts. Marc from Petstaurant in Sherman Oaks saved our dog’s life. The yeast is inherent in dogs, but is fed from white potato and white/​brown rice in dog food (basically carbs as I understand it). We have thousands of dollars in vet bills and urgent care for staph infections trying to get the malassezia under control.
I had a visit from a friend the other day with a white lab from a breeder in Kentucky. She feeds her dog CRAP dog food full of carbs, no probiotics, no digestive enzymes, no coconut oil, no raw apple cider vinegar, no goat’s yogurt, no special duck or rabbit or line-​caught whitefish like we do. And the dog’s stomach is pink as ever, no ear pus, no dark stomach.
Her dog was beautiful — big, blocky head English lab, softest whitest fur, well-​behaved. But the real kicker is — she paid a FRACTION of what we paid. And we have a small, sickly, American lab that has suffered for most of the past 2 years. I truly believe her quality of life is diminished, but also believe nobody would take on doing what we are doing to keep her healthy (too expensive), so we have to trudge ahead. Her food is $ 11 a day, not counting supplements.
I feel that we were completely taken for a ride, financially.
(P.S. We did spend the extra $ to get a mostly trained dog, have paid additional training fees this year, and our dog is very poorly trained to this day). She was potty trained and had very few accidents (to be truthful), but I would not say that potty training and «sit» is worth what they charge.
Like another reviewer says, it’s like getting a rescue dog. Be forewarned.

I got home heartbroken after everything I saw at that place! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE DOGS, they only want to make money. The dogs do not look healthy, a lot of the older ones got allergies. underweight, just not happy. The dogs just smelled REALLY BAD. They do not take you to see where the dogs stay, they bring to the front yard. If you have the money to SAVE this dogs please do.

Don’t get me wrong — we LOVE our dog. But she was just diagnosed with PRA — retinal atrophy — CONGENITAL. I just looked at her paperwork, and Susana Labs says they screen for this condition. Clearly, not true.
Maddie is 7 /​½ years old and will become blind sometime soon.
DO NOT PURCHASE A DOG FROM THIS KENNEL.

While initially extremely disappointed with Susana Labradors, I wanted to update to say that after 4 rounds of tests and antibiotics, we finally knocked the giardia out of our dog. In addition, we finally got her ear issue under control as well. We do love our dog and see does have a good temperament and personality.
While Susanna was responsive to our initial negative remarks, I did feel they were more concerned about their Unilocal reputation than our frustrations. Whatever the motive though, I did appreciate them contacting us.

We bought our sweet labrador from Teresa four years ago and had nothing but good experiences. I have owned four labs in my life and Kaya is the best mannered of all. We passed on the training as I was pretty exprienced already in raising labs.
Believe me, we did a lot of research before we found Suzanna Labs. Regarding the cost of our dog, I firmly believe that you get what you pay for. Kaya has brought such joy into our lives that the cost is immaterial to me.
As my wife and I travel a few times a year, we have boarded Kaya at their kennel several times over the past four years. In fact, we drive up all the way up from Long Beach to do it. Kaya jumps out of our car and heads right into their house without looking back! She obviously has a wonderful time in their pool. Their boarding rates are very reasonable.
Regarding the number of negative reviews, sometimes puppies do get ill. Giardia does occur sometimes, and can be treated with meds. But when your dog gets sick, it is a very traumatic experience, and therefore I understand the reviewers’ reactions.
I highly recommend Susana Labs to anyone looking for a wonderful addition to their family.

BEWARE! Glorified puppy mill. Tons of inbreeding, just take a look at the pedigrees. International show wins are a joke — pretty much bought and paid for. Won’t let prospective buyers meet the sire and dam or any of their adults for that matter. Totally overpriced. Go elsewhere. Many reputable, caring, and conscientious breeders out there!

Puppy Mill… very dirty, they won’t let you see kennels, only show you dogs in their home. We bought a pure bred Labrador from them 2 years ago and Teresa pushed for the high end food, pills. I showed up one day to visit our puppy (before the 8 week pick up) and saw the trainer taking a puppy into her car with a giant bag of Kirkland puppy food. Who does that??? So sleazy…

DOG KILLERS!!! My family dropped our healthy 7 yr old Pomeranian off to their kennel service at 10:00 am, by 1:00 we had a phone call saying she was unconscious and not breathing. After taking over 30 mins to get her to a vet, we were told by the vet that there was no saving our beloved family dog. Susana Labradors couldn’t explain what happened. Our family was left with no explanation. She was a happy, enthusiastic, loving dog, and was perfectly fine that morning. And she ends up dead?! And within hours of us dropping her off to their care?! Nothing adds up. Sadly nothing can bring our dog back. But maybe posting our story will discourage others from leaving their family pets in these irresponsible and dishonest hands.

We traveled from Northern CA and bought a trained puppy from Susana Labradors. We had a great experience with them from beginning to pickup and on. We chose this breeder primarily because of their good looking quality labs and they offered training. Although the training was expensive, it was worth it for us. Since the bf and I both work full-​time and don’t have time to train a puppy from the beginning (but still wanted to enjoy the puppy stages), getting the puppy trained by the breeder really helped.
BREEDER:
Teresa was very nice, responsive and helpful throughout the whole process. Her and her staff were very patient when we went to select our pup (took us a good 2 – 3 hours, all the pups were so darn cute!!). They told us about the personalities of each one, health history and pedigree of the parents (with proof & we got to meet some of the parents), life with a lab, how to prep & train, list goes on. they really know their stuff.
All her dogs seemed happy and healthy (and again, ADORABLE). She kept us updated on the progress of our pup’s training and sent videos and pics. At one point she thought our pup may need an extra week of training and offered that at no extra charge, but it turned out that our pup got better towards the end and we took her home as scheduled! They even provided a training report in addition to her health certificate and all.
OUR PUPPY (pic attached):
We selected our pup when she was 10 weeks old. Training took 5 weeks. When we brought her home, she was crate trained, potty trained to go outside (had a few accidents & tinkles when excited), knew sit, down, stay, wait, high five, red light, wrong, and how to fetch & bring back a ball. She also walked fairly well on the leash with a little pull and knew basic house manners like not to climb on the couch. She had to potty every 2 hours during the day in the first few weeks, but that’s gotten a lot better over time. She tested positive for Giardia initially but the vet said it’s common (our previous dog had it before as well) and with some meds, it went away.
Our now-​6-​months-​old pup is 35 lbs., beautiful, super sweet, mellow, playful, social, happy, healthy, smart, very well mannered & trained. everything we could’ve hoped for! She gets compliments and attention EVERYWHERE we go; our vet told us that we are lucky to have such a good looking & well mannered puppy and loves her so much that she even asked to meet us at the dog park to play with her when she’s not working. We feel like proud dog-​parents :). I’m so happy I 1) decided to get a lab, 2) got our puppy from this breeder, & 3) got her trained. I have recommended them to others already and will return if I ever want a 2^nd lab!

want a puppy with Giardia and elbow displaysia ($ 10,000 later at 1 year old) then by all means get a puppy from these «breeders!» With calling them in the first year of our issues they kept telling us they were growing pains, etc. when we finally got a professional opinion (you know, from a Veterinarian) we ended up with bilateral elbow surgery and just so happened to be after the 1 year guarantee so we didn’t get our $ back. Although they did offer to replace our dog! Yah, after 1 year and the love we had for her already… Don’t take your chances!!!

If you want to buy a puppy for a price two to five times what other breeders charge, go for it. If your looking for a place to board your puppy, keep looking!!! Beware of this womens claims of fantastic training and insist you see where your dog will be boarded and cared for. Do not believe what she says about the wonderful facility and the fantastic training. She is unprofessional, there are smokers in the house and she Medicated my dog needlessly without my permission. $ 500 for 4 days of training and my dog can sit! Don’t be fooled like I was.

I went back and forth from 4 to 5 stars on this review. While searching for a dog a year ago I looked at Labradors, and Goldens, and even Aussies! Susana Labradors is a surprising place and positively misleading. Form the outside you think Backyard breeder but then you can request a tour and you see what they are really about and it’s amazing! They train the pups in their home, and everyone is healthy and happy. If i didn’t decide on a golden retriever I would have probably picked a Labrador from Susana Labradors.

I was going around looking for a yellow Labrador puppy and came across Teresa and Kenny’s website which displayed all beautiful lines of Fox Red, Black, Yellow, and White pure bred puppies. I was blown away by the great pedigree’s they had to offer and all the services they did provide. I talked to Teresa on the phone and told her exactly what I was looking for and she said she had the perfect yellow puppy for me! I immediately made an appointment with her to meet the puppy.
She showed me the cutest puppy I’ve ever seen and I immediately fell in love and purchased the puppy that day! Sunny is so full of energy, great companion and is very loyal.
I’m so happy I found Susana Labradors and recommend them to everyone I know who is looking for a great dog! When I go out of town I will definitely be calling them up so they can board Sunny.
